Say that you draw Beleren on turn "late game", do you still want it?

Also, why isn't there at least a Cruel Ultimatum?
December 22, 2014 8:47 p.m.
I had cruel ultimatum in there for a while, but I had a couple problems with it. First, I don't have any creatures, so I wouldn't benefit from that part, I Have a ton of removal, so they usually don't have a creature to kill, and my card draw is pretty decent, so i don't need that either. As for the beleren... yeah i've been toying with the idea of ditching him. I was thinking either Ashiok, or something else. I don't know for sure.
As for a sideboard, Help would be appreciate it.

I feel like milling someone for 3 with Nephalia Drownyard would only fuel cards like Treasure Cruise and such. never milling them out.
December 24, 2014 5:50 p.m.
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker? blows up a couple lands if you have them shut down, then hits ult and you win. IMO the grixis walker that would be the finisher you need. i would also drop the Nephalia Drownyard and add in Desolate Lighthouse, lets you loot when you draw land late game. take one hell of a long time to mill someone 3 a turn without any dedicated sources of mil.
I also think Rakdos Charm is a must as you have no instant speed wipes. it blows up pod, makes splinter twin lose, or gets rid of a graveyard when a snapcaster mage comes in.
December 24, 2014 6:11 p.m.
Provo I completely forgot about Treasure Cruise, i think you're right I'll take it out.
kynrayn I already have a Desolate Lighthouse, do you think i should add another one? Also, should I mainboard Rakdos Charm? I always considered it more of a sideboard card. As for Bolas, I had him in here for the longest time, but by the time i had 8 mana i found that his blow up a permanent wasn't exactly enough. But then again, I haven't tried him since my deck changed, so I may put him back in there.
December 24, 2014 6:17 p.m.
damn, sorry i must have missed that, no just keep 1 Desolate Lighthouse. Do you not have any fetches? they would work wonders at grabing the right shock lands to fix your mana. if not something like a Reflecting Pool or Chromatic Lantern could do it
I have 2 Rakdos Charms main but the meta where i play is very pod and combo based, so i tend to be using it a lot. I do agree that it feels like a sideboard card though
Honestly i also tried Jace Beleren before and i'm not a huge fan. i think a better play for this deck would be Serum Visions. it just sets you up to do so much.
December 24, 2014 6:39 p.m.
Yeah, Jace Beleren has been on the chopping block for a LONG time. He just doesn't feel like he does enough for me. I've been considering Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in his place, but Serum Visions may work too. I'd have to play around with it.
As for fetches, I have a couple Polluted Delta that I could probably fit in, but I don't tend to have much trouble with my mana when i'm playing. I'm just worried about the life loss, really.

Let's just agree then, Ashiok to replace Beleren.
December 24, 2014 8:31 p.m.
It's been done! Thanks for the help so far, guys. Any more suggestions? maybe on the sideboard? I know that it's really a meta call in the end, but anything i should consider in general?
December 24, 2014 10:34 p.m.
If you are worried about life loss from fetches, then run a couple Elixir of Immortalitys in the side. pisses burn and mill off and makes up for fetching/shocking lands, but you also have a batterskull.
You need a instant speed force sacrifice spell to deal with tron and bogles. My favorite is far//away (sorry i dont know how to link fused cards) but there's always Geth's Verdict and some others that i can't think of right now. Stone rain is also a good sideboard for tron and 3 color matchups to disrupt their tempo
Im a big fan of Surgical Extraction,Extirpate and/or Slaughter Games, if they have something they need for a combo it rips their deck to pieces. but without Thoughtseize the first two are a little weaker. I would say put Slaughter Games SB for that purpose.
December 25, 2014 6:02 a.m.
oh, I actually do have 2 Thoughtseizes that I'm not using, so I could actually put those in the sideboard. Though isn't Slaughter Games too slow? at least for combo? don't most combo decks go off by turn 4?
December 25, 2014 1:57 p.m.
combo decks CAN and usually do go off about turn 4, but anyone with a brain won't combo when they see you are playing blue because of the potential for it to be countered, they will wait until they can protect it to do it. which is where the uncounterable part of slaughtergames comes in
December 25, 2014 2:02 p.m.
that's true i guess. Okay how many do you think i should throw in?
December 25, 2014 2:05 p.m.
just keep 3 in the sideboard, you want to be able to draw them, but most combos only require you to get rid of one card.

Lol, if you want to destroy tron, Sowing Salt is hilarious. You might also want Duress or something to get Scapeshift into the graveyard to Surgical Extraction it.

Still, a 7/7 flyer that makes your opponent discard his entire hand is absolutely beast.

Nice deck! The only two recommendations I have is upping the number of Creeping Tar Pits and taking out Lavaclaw Reaches. Unless you're on a budget, I would suggest getting a playset of both Polluted Delta and Bloodstained Mire and then adjusting the lands from there. +1 from me.
December 31, 2014 8:14 a.m.
Yeah, I've been wanting to, but budget is an issue. I will do it on the decklist, and play around with it though, so thanks for the suggestion. as for the other lands, I've noticed my balance of check lands and shock lands seems to be working extremely well. I don't think I'll be able to fit two full playsets of fetches, and I don't think I have the budget to be buying them anyways, even though they are at an all time low.
December 31, 2014 5:06 p.m.
I feel like Dig Through Time would be better then Treasure Cruise, but that's just me.

Your main-deck looks pretty solid, but Sideboards are important aswell. Do you need help with it, or just haven't got around to it?
