I wouldn't have kept that hand. Two lands and only one of which was a colored source? I mean your hand only had 2 lands too, but I say both realistically should have mullied. With the match at stake I wouldn't leave it up to chance to top deck a workable amount of lands, especially considering we had just played 2 games when I witnessed firsthand the devestation of your Supreme Verdict s on my board state (or more specifically my mana dork in this instance). It makes for the least epic game 3 of all time as everyone just witnessed. I wouldn't say your deck didn't do what it was supposed to just because you didn't have to Sphinx's Revelation or drop an Angel of Serenity to swing the game back in your favor. You controlled the game with u/w, and beatdown with g. Sounds about right. Haha.

I would have probably kept that hand. He had T2 Loxodon Smiter and would have had T3 Rancor and Silverblade Paladin if he had drawn a Plains . That would have been a T3 hit for 12 with Voice of Resurgence landing T4. If the Loxodon Smiter had been bounced, voice would come in soulbonded and rancored for more beatdown. The difference between that game being mana screwed and serious beatdown was one plains.

@Apoptosis: that's exactly my point. All I would've needed was to top deck 1 plains, but that's still leaving it up to chance. I would rather gamble on a fresh hand with a mulligan than gamble on a starting hand with a weak land base, and just hope to not get mana screwed.
July 16, 2013 12:48 p.m.
Checked the card odds table and I think you're right. Probability of drawing a white mana land is 14.1% (18.6% if you include the pilgrim). That's not as good as I intuitively thought it would be.
July 16, 2013 2 p.m.
I might recommend swapping the SB Garruk with a Sigarda, Host of Herons . His -3 ability is about the best thing other than Rakdos's Return for keeping up with Sphinx's Revelation . Other than that, not much more I can think of. Maybe a little more ramp, but your curve looks pretty solid as is.
July 16, 2013 2:28 p.m.
Game 4, cuz thats the way its gotta be.
PrinceOfNeurosis opening hand; 3x temple garden, forest, rancor, silverblade paladin, loxodon smiter. Turn four swing for 12. pretty good strategy, albeit a bit weak to removal.
Behgz opening hand; Breeding pool, glacial fortress, sunpetal grove, snapcaster mage, thragtusk, angel of serenity, sphinxs revelation. Plenty of substance, a little short on land, gonna have to draw into those lands to stay alive in this game.
Behgz on the play.
B1: plays Breeding Pool tapped, passes.
P1: draws trostani, selesnyas voice, plays Temple Garden tapped, passes.
B2: draws Hallowed Fountain, plays Hallowed fountain tapped, passes.
P2: draws Thragtusk, plays temple tapped, passes.
B3: draws supreme verdict, plays sunpetal grove, passes.
P3: draws advent of the wurm, plays forest, casts loxodon smiter, passes.
B4: draws supreme verdict, plays glacial fortress, holding snap, thrag, serenity, 2x supreme, and a sphinx. Passes.
P4: draws sunpetal grove, plays sunpetal grove, casts rancor onto loxodon smiter, casts silverblade paladin paired to loxodon smiter. Moves to combat, swings with smiter for 12, no blocks, lifes at B8/P20. passes.
B5: draws centaur healer, casts supreme verdict, passes.
P5: draws selesnya charm, plays temple garden tapped, casts trostani, selesnyas voice, passes.
B6: draws snapcaster mage, at four lands still, plays centaur healer, gains three, lifes at B11/P20. passes.
P6: draws sunpetal grove, plays sunpetal grove, casts thragtusk, gains 8, lifes at B11/P28, casts rancor onto thragtusk, passes.
B7: draws farseek, casts farseek, finds a temple garden, passes.
P7: draws oblivion ring, casts oblivion ring on centaur healer. Moves to combat, swings for 9 with everything. Behgz flashes in a snap caster and chumps trostani, in response, PrinceOfNeurosis casts selesnya charm on trostani, making it a 4/5 trample, damage step, Behgz takes 10, Lifes at B1/P28. passes.
B8: draws Breeding pool, plays breeding pool tapped, with only one life I cant legally cast breeding pool untapped, otherwise I would cast supreme, then flash in a snap to block his beast token from thrag, but the only legal play here is; cast thragtusk, gains 5, lifes at B6/P20. Trostani and thrag can swing for 9 total, my thrag can chump his rancor'd thrag and take 4 trample, plus trostani's 2 unblocked, its lethal on the board and Im tapped out. Concedes.
PrinceOfNeurosis The Voices of Selesnya wins.
Thoughts on the round, while both sides had moves, voices of selesnya just came packin with some hard punches, even with sweepability on my side I couldn't keep up. I'm interested to try unlocking the sb for both these decks and letting them really get down / dirty.
July 16, 2013 5:28 p.m.
its actually tied 2-2, i could post a serious business game 5, any one wanna see it?! unlock the sb?!
July 16, 2013 8:50 p.m.
Thats all i needed to here, ima make a copy of this deck and sub in the appropriate cards and then playtest it, then delete the copy. so theres no confusion, it'll be listed as private the whole time.
I'll break down the sub choices in the official post.

Behgz Are you doing these breakdowns because you are a friend of PrinceOfNeurosis' or because you just have spare time and it kills some?
July 16, 2013 9:36 p.m.
@Ohthenoises A little of both, I'm best friends with him IRL, and I just got fired today so..

Oof. Sorry to hear that man. That hurts.
I was wondering if you wanted to branch out and try testing his/yours against my Bant brew. I've faced Bant control similar to what you're doing in one match and I got the 2-0 (nearly going to time). His comment to me was "Your mid to late game is so much better". I've also faced Selesnya aggro like PrinceOfNeurosis' build many times and have also gotten frequent 2-0s with scattered 2-1s.
Also, if you wanted to try something more roguish I have a non-human Naya Zoo brew that would be fun.
The reason I suggest this is to prevent staleness. As of right now you are only testing the deck against Bant control and that will influence the card choices. It also narrows the focus of the deck to the point that if you get hit by anything rogue you kindof get knocked off kilter.
You could also do a series of articles for the community like KrazyCaley used to do.
July 16, 2013 9:46 p.m.
I'm flattered u would even utter my name in the same sentence as KrazyCaley. He is incredible.
July 16, 2013 9:54 p.m.
I definitely modeled my break downs off of the daily dose of standard articles. Which are amazing.

I'm not THAT incredible. :P
Do some writeups if you like, we always need more content.
July 16, 2013 9:57 p.m.
You have brightened my day KrazyCaley.
As for a sb unlocked game 5, PrinceOfNeurosis expressed a desire to swap a few things around in his mb/sb, so I'll be holding off on game 5 for the time being, tho I can check into some other decks and potential match ups that Ohthenoises suggested.
July 16, 2013 10:06 p.m.
PrinceOfNeurosis says... #21
@Ohthenoises: I can see what you're saying about this match up getting stagnant, or at least the value of different match ups.
As for holding off on game 5 with the sbs unlocked: it just doesn't make sense to change the parameters of the match on a hypothetical tie breaking game 5. Besides that, I think we can all agree that I could use some work on my sb tech before it comes into play.
July 16, 2013 10:47 p.m.
Voice is a beast! Great deck. Some of the same elements I used to build my g/w deck. +1 for me.
July 17, 2013 1:30 a.m.
Nice, +1.
However i would have put 3 Arbor Elf OR 3 Elvish Mystic : having 7 turn 1 accelerators is a "must have" if you want to play it this way.
For theese elf, i would recommand get out 1 Sigarda, Host of Herons and move the 2 Oblivion Ring to the sideboard.
July 17, 2013 7:54 a.m.
I miss KrazyCaley's Daily Dose of Standard... Love seeing what Behgz is doing here with the playtesting, I see a new round of Daily Dose! Of course that means Behgz will have to start by challenging KrazyCaley's Bolas for a Better Tomorrow first.
July 17, 2013 12:21 p.m.
you are insane Apoptosis,
Bolas for a Better Tomorrow is the most intimidating deck I can think of, give me naya blitz all day lol

Epic Game Three is Epic.
PrinceOfNeurosis opening hand: forest, gavony township, avacyns pilgrim, silverblade paladin, loxodon smiter, thragtusk, rancor.
Behgz opening hand: 2x Hallowed Fountain, snapcaster mage, centaur healer, cyclonic rift, sphinxs revelation.
Behgz on the play.
B1: Hallowed tapped. Passes.
P1: draws sigarda, host of herons, plays forest, casts avacyns pilgrim. Passes.
B2: draws glacial fortress, plays Hallowed fountain tapped. Passes.
P2: draws Garruk, primal hunter, plays gavony township, casts loxodon smiter, passes.
B3: draws supreme verdict, plays glacial, passes.
P3: draws voice of resurgence, two moves, play rancor onto loxodon with the one green source, or use it for voice. Casts voice of resurgence. Swings with loxodon smiter for four, lifes at B16/P20. Passes.
B4: draws snapcaster mage, casts cyclonic rift on loxodon smiter sending it back to PrinceOfNeurosis hand, Behgz passes.
P4: draws thragtusk, swings with voice of resurgence, lifes at B14/P20, second main casts loxodon smiter. Passes.
B5: draws Breeding Pool, plays Breeding Pool, shocks for 2, lifes at B12/P20. casts supreme verdict. PrinceOfNeurosis Gets an Elemental token. Passes.
P5: draws thragtusk..wow casts rancor on the elemental token, swings for four, lifes at B8/P20. Passes.
B6: draws sunpetal grove, plays sunpetal grove, casts thragtusk, gains five, lifes at B13/P20. Passes.
P6: draws avacyns pilgrim, casts avacyns pilgrim, cards in hand; silverblade paladin, 3x thragtusk <.< , sigarda host of herons, and garruk primal hunter. Passes.
B7: draws hinterland harbor, plays hinterland harbor, cards in hand; 2x snapcaster mage, centaur healer, sphinxs revelation, cards in graveyard for snapcaster,; cyclonic rift and supreme verdict. Swings with thrag, no blocks, lifes at B13/P15. second main, casts centaur healer, lifes at B16/P15. passes.
P7: draws ..Thragtusk passes.
B8: draws centaur healer, swings with thragtusk and centaur healer, PrinceOfNeurosis blocks thrag with voice token, trades, and takes 3 from centaur healer, Behgz gets a beast token, second main casts centaur healer, gains 3, lifes at B19/P12. Passes.
P8: draws avacyns pilgrim, casts avacyns pilgrim, still only one green source, it was either that or recast rancor onto the first pilgrim. Passes.
B9: draws Temple Garden, plays Temple Garden tapped, swings with 2x centaur and a beast token, no blocks, lifes at B19/P3. if PrinceOfNeurosis blocks with his dorks he will auto lose by losing his mana sources. Passes.
P9: draws selesnya charm, concedes. He can make a 2/2 knight token but he has to chump with everything to get one more turn, and on that turn hell only have two mana sources. Impossible to come back from that board state, extreme mana screwing is a thing apparently.
I really feel like that was a poor showing of both decks. I mean, I'm not supposed to get a away with a couple centaurs and a beast token.
And two lands for nine turns is a bit screwed, to say the least.
Might do another game tmrw night, just to give both decks a better run, cuz that game 3 was anything but epic.
