@Apoptosis: word is your wish has been granted. Behgz did a full match write up against KrazyCaley's standard brew, which he has submitted for review, and will potentially be published as an article if all goes well.
@Behgz: you're absolutely right, 40 upvotes IS big time and I need to continue to show gratitude to the TO community for their support... thanks everyone!

I have a friend who would totally play this! The voice's and advent's would have made that deck that much scarier. Just when you think you have him, the life gain of beats on wings get you. Nicely done!
July 18, 2013 12:34 a.m.
Looks amazing. I don't play much green, but I hope I never have to face against a deck like this. x.x
July 18, 2013 2:18 a.m.
+1 from me I really like your deck's synergy and thanks again for commenting on my deck as well, I actually remember looking at an earlier iteration of this deck for ideas. My one suggestion which I admit would slow down your deck is Rootborn Defenses . I will never stop repping this card since I owe so many wins to it. However, like I said before it would slow down your deck, however with the release of Ready / Willing Selesnya gets a more aggro friendly defense that at preforms some truly amazing combat shenanigans, and acts as a counter to those pesky Supreme Verdict . I know that your thinking why not just keep it in your sideboard like rootborn, but find room for 2. Its worth it and thanks again.

I really like the deck. I was thinking about running only a two color deck, however in the local meta aggro is all to prominent. So red for burn spells and some other good choices really help out a deck like this. Also, I love seeing Trostani, Selesnya's Voice in any deck. I'm really this card gets more play, because I think its pretty awesome.
July 18, 2013 10:18 a.m.
I'm a little worried that you deck is not quite enough aggro and not enough midrange. I just feel like you need to pick a direction. Silverblade Paladin fits for aggro and Angel of Serenity fits for midrange. At 24 land, plus 4x dorks and 2 Farseek , your mana base is midrange not aggro. So the question becomes: is it worth having the Silverblade Paladin for double strike or are you better putting in some bigger fatties that fit midrange better?
Anyway, Behgz matchups inspired me to test drive your deck. So I thought why not start against what I consider the best pure aggro deck in standard: Naya Blitz.
PrinceOfNeurosis's The Voices of Selesnya versus The Kessig Township by Vos_Is_Boss
V keeps: 2x forest, 1x plains, voice, silverblade, advent of the wurm, and garruk
K keeps: cavern of souls, sacred foundry, 2 burning tree emissary, silverblade, boros elite, and rancor
V on the play
V1: Plains
K1: Draws temple garden, plays cavern (human), casts boros elite
V2: draws temple garden, plays forest, Voice of Resurgence
K2: draws mayor of avabruck, plays temple garden untapped (V20/K18), casts 2x burning tree, mayor of avabruck
V3: draws sunpetal grove, plays it, casts silverblade paladin soulbonded to voice. No attack
K3: draws lightning mauler, plays Sacred foundry (V20/K16), casts lightning mauler soulbonded to mayor, casts rancor on boros elite. K attacks with Boros elite, both burning trees, and lightning mauler, V blocks elite with voice, mauler with Silverblade: double strike kills mauler before it can deal damage, voice dies (4 damage tramples through), V gets an E token, and takes 10 damage total (4 +3 + 3) (V10/K16).
V4: draws loxodon smiter. plays forest, passes turn.
K4: Mayor transforms, draws boros charm. Casts silverblade bonded to boros elite. K attacks with boros elite, 2x burning tree, howlpack alpha. V: flashes in a worm bonded to silverblade, elemental blocks howlpack, wurm blocks elite, silverblade blocks burning tree: howlpack and elemental both die, silverblade kills a burning tree, boros elite kills worm with double strike (tramples through 5 damage), other burning tree hits (V3/K16)
V5: draws temple garden. plays it tapped. Casts loxodon smiter soulbonded to silverblade.
K5: draws champion of the parish, casts it via cavern attaks with Boros Elite, Silverblade, and burning tree. V blocks loxodon on boros elite, silverblade on silverblade: all 4 die 1 damage tramples through and +2 damage from burning tree is game (V0/K16). Could also have died by Boros Charm
to the face.
Thoughts: that's Naya Blitz at its best and tough to beat. Centaur Healer out of the sideboard would help in game 2, but is it enough?? I could try a game 2 if you want.
July 18, 2013 11:57 a.m.
The Naya Blitz Archetype is the cheapest, turn guys sideways and win deck I've seen in standard since scars block rotated out, back when they had turn one birds of paradise, turn two sword of war an peace, turn three attach and swing, which was redonk. but nothing like the Naya Blitz we have now, and I don't respect it at all, Thats why my deck Garden Hose Midrange (FNM results 3-1) is specifically designed to beat that match up without sideboarding. To leave room in the sideboard for actual archetype's that win through strategy and not the complex concept that is, 'turning a creature sideways'.
Nothing against you Apoptosis, I just hate Naya Blitz :P
And I definately don't like seeing my Bro's deck loose to a jank ass aggro deck like Naya Shits.

@Apoptosis: I wouldn't mind seeing another one. I'd like to think the Centaur Healer s would help, but honestly, I don't know. I know naya blitz is a tough archetype to beat, but I just think that all you gotta do is stem the tide while they finish pooping out their whole hand. If you can match pace until their top decking, you're in pretty good shape. Besides, I'd say things went rather perfect for the naya side game #1. Anyway, thanks for the the write up.

@Behgz: hahaha. It's cool man. To be fair, you know I'll be going up against deck similar to this at least half the time when I go to a tourney in our local metta. Thought I'd put up a better fight than that though. Like I said, I think Centaur Healer s would help.
July 18, 2013 12:17 p.m.
yea, I got a little heated there at the end haha, as far as centaur healer goes.. you know how I feel about him, I specifically went out and got 3x foil centaur healers because he is that awesome, he literally negates would-be god hands in naya blitz, oh you played burning-tree burning-tree, mayor, i get centaur, gain three, trade for any of those three, move to a board wipe. its that easy, for ur deck tho, a second centaur in between ur three and five drops cuz obvi thrag would really swing it back for you but unlesss u ramp ur lookin at turn 5, which is the turn u lost game 1 right there, so even 2x centaurs would have made all the difference and kept you alive long enough to make legit moves on turns 5-6. Part of the raison I dont like to sidbeboard centaur is because if a card warrants a place in the mainboard, give it to em! Like back in scars block, Batterskull was a hedge card that was in a lot of top 8 sideboards, which I thought was ridiculous because you could just mainboard it, before they side in artifact hate, and wreck face with it. which I did plenty of times at FNM back in those glory days haha. My point here is find room for centaur healer in your mainboard so you can weather the storm that is naya blitz at your next standard event, and not scramble to side it in game 2 and claw your way back up the cliff of despair that is trying to come back from a game 1 loss.
July 18, 2013 12:45 p.m.
Ok, easy on Naya Blitz. The deck I put up against this one is one of the best and Vos_Is_Boss had it figured out well before the pack, so hats off to her game one. I used it as a reference deck.
I did a matchup against a midrange Naya deck that I'm toying around with, which I still consider in the prototype tinkering stage.
It's a Voice of Selesnya versus a Voice of Naya! Whose voice will be heard??? Let's go to the results:
PrinceOfNeurosis The Voices of Selesnya versus Apoptosis The Voice of Naya
P draws: temple garden, sunpetel grove, plains, forest, rancor, selensya charm, voice of resurgence

P on gthe play
P1: plays temple garden tapped.
A1: plays Stomping ground untapped (P20/A18), casts pilgrim
P2: draws voice or resurgence, plays forest, casts voice.
A2: draws rootbound crag, plays clifftop retreat, casts boros reckoner.
P3: draws forest, plays sunpetal grove, casts rancor onto boros reckoner, cast selesnya charm to exile boros reckoner. Attacks with Voice (P20/A16).
A3: draws clifftop retreat and plays it casts Domri Rade, +1 reveals sacred foundry.
P4: draws sunpetal grove, plays it, casts rancor on voice. Attacks with voice targeting domri rade , A blocks with Pilgrim, Domri takes 3 and is at 1, pilgrim dies. Post combat, P casts 2nd voice (P20/A16).
A4: draws sacred foundry, Domri Rade +1 reveals boros charm. plays temple garden tapped. End turn.
P5: draws plains (whats with all the lands?). Plays plains. Attacks rancored voice at A, regular voice at Domri. Domri dies. (P20/A12).
A5: sighs and draws boros charm plays sacred foundry tapped and braces for impact.
P6: draws selesnya charm, attacks with both voices (P20/A6)
A6: draws sacred foundry and concedes.
Thoughts: little trick really paid off and Holy mana screwed lets try that again.
Game 2. A on the play.
A draws: stomping ground, clifftop retreat, 2x avacyns pilgrim, gyre sage, thundermaw hellkite, and boros charm
P draws: plains, 2x sunpetal grove, thragtusk, restoration angel, 2x angel o f serenity not liking both angels in the opening hand but given that I didnt see much game 1, what the hell
A1: plays stomping ground (A18/P20), casts pilgrim
P1: draws restoration angel, plays plains
A2: draws rootbound crag, plays clifftop retreat. Attacks with pilgrim and hits (A18/P19), casts 2nd pilgrim.
P2: draws farseek, plays sunpetal grove. casts farseek for temple garden.
A3: draws pilgrim (great the whole family is coming on this journey), plays rootborn crag, taps out to cast thundermaw hellkite. Attacks for 5 (A18/P14)
P3: draws forest. plays sunpetal grove.
A4: draws domri rade. Attacks with hellkite, P reluctantly flashs a resto angel for the block, who dies. Post combat A casts Domri Rade and Gyre Sage. Activates +1 and puts voice in hand
P4: draws loxodon smiter. Plays forest, casts thragtusk (A18/P19).
A5: draws thragtusk. Uses Domri Rade -2 to have hellkite and thragtusk fight (2 loyalty), cast boros charm to make As creatures indestructible, thrag dies makes a beast. A casts voice, gyre sage evolves. A casts last pilgrim. Attacks with thundermaw and hits (A18/P14)
P5: draws thragtusk and casts it (A18/P19). P attacking into As voice would give a 6/6 elemental, seems too dangerous without being able to cast angel of serenity
A6: draws thundermaw hellkite and casts it, gyre sage evolves. Domri rade +1 draws thragtusk (3L). Attacks with both thundermaw and voice, thrag blocks voice, P gets a token (A18/P9)
P6: draws trangtusk, casts thragtusk (A18/P14)
A7: draws mutavault, plays mutavault just swapped those over kessig wolf run to test out some descendants path tricks. Domri rade forces beast to fight hellkkite and dies (L1). Attacks with everything, thrags block token and gyre (both thrags and gyre die, P gets 2 beasts), beast blocks pilgrim (pilgrim dies), 13 damage come through (A18/P1).
P7: draws voice and concedes.
Thoughts on game 2: a T3 thundermaw hellkite demands a response, sure wish I had a charm. Onto Game 3 for the match!!!
Game 3, P on the play.
P draws: plains, sunpetal grove, pilgrim, voice, silverblade, voice, restoration angel a much better hand despite only two lands, it might be a turn slow but would ramp nice
A draws: temple garden, clifftop retreat, 2x boros reckoner, boros charm, domri rade, and Aurelia no ramp, but two lands and three draws to get to 3CMC and I love the possibility of getting boros into fights, ok screw it, lets go
P1: plays plains.
A1: draws Ruric Thar, the unbowed oh no, thats not the right direction at all Plays temple garden tapped.
P2: draws advent of the wurm. Plays sunpetal grove, casts pilgrim.
A2: draws domri rade fuck plays clifftop retreat.
P3: draws rancor casts voice of resurgence. Attacks with pilgrim (P20/A19)
A3: draws voice of resurgence. and casts it ok that will do I guess, still need that damn land
P4: draws a pilgrim. casts silverblade paladin, bonds to voice. Voice attacks and hits for 4 (P20/A15).
A4: draws stomping ground and plays it untapped finally, but a turn late (P20/A13) casts boros reckoner.
P5: draws and plays forest. Casts rancor on boros reckoner, casts selesnya charm to exile it, rancor comes back. A: WTF?!? in two games he gets that combo off! Attacks with both voice and silverblade, voice blocks voice and dies, gets elemental (P20/A9).
A5: draws rootbound crag and plays it, casts boros reckoner
P6: draws loxodon smiter I can put rancor on voice here and attack, but with 1 red available, A can give boros reckoner first strike, which means both silverblade and voice would die and A would only take 3 damage, not worth it. Would rather wait to flash the worm at end step, then on my turn cast the angel and rebond the paladin with the worm.
A6: draws sacred foundry. Casts Domri Rade, uses -2 to force silverblade to fight boros reckoner, Domri Rade L=1. In response P flashes restoration angel bouncing silverblade, who rebonds with the angel. No damage is dealt or received since the target is gone. A plays sacred foundry tapped A: and there goes the ballgame (P20/A9).
P7: draws plains, pays forest. attaches rancor to restoration angel and attacks with the angel through the air for 10 and game.
Thoughts on matchup. Closer then the score indicates, as they say. rancor + selesnya charm really screwed my boros reckoner and the restoration angel give you board control for the win. Hats off to you sir. Never saw the descendants path mutavault combo I was thinking about, so that had zero relevance. In an actual game, I think any misplay (e.g. exchanging damage with the reckoner) would have resulted in P losing board control. in game 3 A probably should have taken the mulligan, maybe P in game 2 should have as well but isn't that always what you think? Congratz sir, your voice was louder then mine. I can run it again if you like and any feedback on The Voice of Naya would be appreciated.

Hey prince your deck seems to be running well great job on the flow. I made a few last changes for this weeks FNM which is actually my first time back in a while. Let me know what you think about it and if there is anything you might sugest doing to it as far as changes for the tournament. Thanks
July 18, 2013 3:32 p.m.
You wanted to see the rematch, you got the match... here we go, games 2 and 3...
Game 2: PrinceOfNeurosis's The Voices of Selesnya versus The Kessig Township by Vos_Is_Boss
P = prince, V = vos. P on the play
P draws: 2x forest, sunpetal grove, avacyns pilgrim, 2x loxodon smiter, thragtusk
V draws: cavern of souls, sacred foundry, champion of the parish, rancor, buring tree, lightning mauler, hellrider
P1: forest, pilgrim
V1: draws thatcher revolt. Plays cavern (human), casts champion
P2: draws pilgrim, plays sunpetal, casts loxodon
V2: draw sunpetal grove, plays Sacred Foundry (P20/V18), casts burning tree, casts lightning mauler bound to buring tree, attacks with burning tree and lightning mauler, Loxodon blocks mauler, which dies (P18/V18).
P3: draws forest and plays it. Casts pilgrim and loxodon , attacks with loxodon (P18/V14)not sure whether that was the right move, but want to keep it close if possible
V3: draws sacred foundry, plays sunpetal grove, casts rancor on burning tree, no attack its more then cast and tap, I want to spread potential damage around, now I can exchange a burning tree for a loxodon and still get rancor on the champion, looking to get hellrider out before thatcher revolt
P4: draws angel of serenity. plays forest, casts thragtusk (P23/V14). Attack with both loxodon, burning tree blocks one, both die rancor back to hand, other loxodon hits (P23/V10) hmmm maybe the thatcher revolt was the way to go after all, then the cha, mpion would be a 6/6 and could have held off the 2nd loxodon
V4: draws burning tree, plays sacred foundry (P23/V8), tough decision, being out aggrod here, can go thatcher/rancor or hellrider casts burning tree (cahmp to 4/4), rancor on burning tree, thatcher revolt (champion to 7/7), attack with 3 huamns, thrag eats one, two hit (P21/V8)
P5: draws rancor casts on thragtusk, attacks with thrag and loxodon. V blocks burning tree on thrag, champion on loxodon: loxodn, thrag, burning tree all die, two rancors return to hands, P gets a beast, and V takes 5 (P21/V3). P casts rancor on pilgrim champion is too big, this spreads damage around
V5: draws searing spear and concedes.
Thoughts: waiting on the hellrider was a bad idea but probably not a game breaker. Onto game 3!
Game 3:
V on the play and draws: cavern, clifftop, clifftop, mayor, lightning mauler, silverblade, boros charm no T1 drops and no shocks, but will play it
P draws: 2x forest, 2x avacyns pilgrim, farseek, silverblade paladine, rest angel lots of ramp, lets see what it ramps into
V1: plays tapped clifftop
P1: draws selesnya charm plays forest, casts pilgrim
V2: draws searing spear, plays cavern (human)I like killing dorks, but think I should save it Casts mayor.
P2: draws plains. Plays forest, casts pilgrim, casts farseek for temple garden
V3: draws hellrider. plays tapped clifftop retreat, casts lightning mauler bonded to mayor attacks and hits (V20/P17) not sure whether I should save it for the silverblade
P3: draws voice, plays plains, casts voice and silverblade, bonded to each other.
V4: draws rancor, casts searing spears to kill silverblade. attacks with mauler, voice blocks and both die. P gets an elemental (V20/P17).
P4: draws loxodon. and casts it. Attacks with elemental and hits (V16/P17).
V5: draws burning tree. Casts silverblade bonded to mayor
P5: draws sunpetal grove and plays it, attackes with elemental and loxodon, silverblade blocks loxodon, P casts resto and bounces loxodon, elemental hits for 5 (V11/P17)
V6: draws lightning mauler, casts burning tree, rancor to paladin, lightning mauler bound to burning tree.
As V here's what I am thinking: Angel is hitting V to 8 no matter what, so V needs to keep damage under 8, elemental is currently 5/5, which must be blocked and his guys wont trade with Ps 1:1 by attacking so
V attacks with the Rancor silverblade paladin
Thinking as P: P can take 10 to the chin or 6 to the chin and lose the loxodon, or trade both the loxodon and resto for the silverblade. A tough call, 10 to the chin is too much and losing Lox/resto both shrinks the elemental and loses the flier but 2:1 is better than 1:0 and V has no green to recast rancor so
V blocks with the loxodon and restoration angel, both die and P takes 2 to the chin (V11/P15) and P's silverbalde goes down swinging, rancor returns to hand.
P6: draws his own silverblade paladin and casts, bonded to the elemental. Attacks with the elemental. V blocks with burning tree, P casts selesnya charm for +2/+2 and trample. Burning tree emissary explodes into gore and V takes 9 (V2/P15) blocking with the mauler wouldn't have helped, both would have been dead before they could return damage
V7: draws hellrider and does nothing
P7: mayor transforms, P topdecks a plains and plays it. P attacks with everything, V casts boros charm to make his creatures indestructible. Mauler on silverblade, howlpack on beast. Silverblade dies, but so does V thanks to two little mana dorks The End.

Well, since the day is blown as far as getting work done is concerned, one more run this time with a control deck I put together:
PrinceOfNeurosiss The Voices of Selesnya versus Apoptosiss AEtherling is Alright
P wins the toss and draws: temple garden, forest, farseek, avacyns pilgrim, voice of resurgence, loxodon smiter, angel of serenity pretty damn good draw
A draws: steam vents, sacred foundry, think twice, snapcatser mage, az charm, dissipate, supreme verdict not liking only two lands.
P1: plays forest, casts pilgrim
A1: draws turn/burn, plays stem vents tapped.
P2: draws forest, plays it casts farseek for temple garden, swings with the pilgrim (P20/A19)
A2: draws Augar of Bolas, plays sacred foundry untapped (P20/A17) ends turn.
P3: draws sunpetal grove and plays it, casts voice in response A casts think twice and draws sulfur falls, voice resolves, P casts loxodon smiter
A3: draws clifftop retreat plays sulfur falls, ends turn
P4: draws voice, plays temple garden tapped, casts voice runs into dissipate, P gets an Elemental token from the voice in play. P attacks with all three (P20/A10)
A4: draws Ral Zarek, plays clifftop retreat casts supreme verdict, P gets an elemental token
P5: draws thragtusk and casts it (P25/A10) and attacks with elemental (P25/A8)
A5: draws snapcaster mage, plays augur of bolas to get mizzium mortars, sending resto angel and desolate lighthouse to bottom of library. Casts mizzium mortars to kill thragtusk, P gets a beast.
P6: draws thragtusk and casts it (P30/A10) attacks with beast and elemental, augur blocks one and dies (P30/A7)
A6: draws think twice and does nothing.
P7: draws avacyns pilgrim. Attacks with everything. A flashes snapcaster, and cast azorius chartm in hand targeting elemental, blocks thragtusk and dies, beast hits (P30/A4), P casts pilgrim
A7: draws clifftop retreat and does nothing.
P8: draws plains. Attacks with thragtusk and beast. A flashes snapcaster mage and casts turn from turn / burn, blocks thragtusk, which dies as a 0/1. Beast hits (P30/A1). P casts Angel of Serenity and exiles 2x thragtusk and voice of resurgence.
A8: draws steam vents, casts think twice draws sphinxs revelation and concedes.
Thoughts. Not a good showing on my part. Definitely want a rematch (LOL). Good job though, think I might try your deck out at a FNM. ;-)
July 18, 2013 5:31 p.m.
The first round against naya blitz... turn 3 swings with Boros Elite . He has a mayor and a rancor on it, so it's a 6/4 trample. You blocked with Voice, which had double strike. The elite should have died during the normal damage step, as voice deals 2 and then another 2damage to it.
July 18, 2013 5:50 p.m.
Good catch Goody, not used to playing with myself yet (for lack of a better phase).
I want to try my AEtherling deck again, I just felt like it was one land away...

PrinceOfNeurosis says... #19
@Apoptosis: thanks for doing all those write ups. While they are a little rough compared to Behgz's, they were still a very fun read. I also learned a couple things that will help me out if I manage to make it to a standard tourney this weekend. For example: when you enchanted my opponent's creature with a Rancor and then exiled it with Selesnya Charm . That was a really cool tech move that I've never seen anybody do; I'll definitely be using that. Feel free to do the rematch against your AEtherling deck. I agree, it could use another run.
@Behgz: hahaha. That is so funny. I was hella confused about your comment. Thanks for updating my pics for me.
@flashter: thanks man. Sure I'll take a look at your recent changes and let you know what I think.
July 18, 2013 11:04 p.m.
Ok, let me see whether I can make this easier to read.
Game 2 PrinceOfNeurosiss The Voices of Selesnya versus Apoptosis AEtherling is Alright
Apoptosis on the play and draws: Hallowed Fountain
, Sacred Foundry
, Sulfur Falls
, Think Twice
, Dissipate
, Turn / Burn
, and Restoration Angel
PrinceOfNeurosis draws: Forest
, Avacyn's Pilgrim
, Rancor
, Voice of Resurgence
, Trostani, Selesnya's Voice
, Thragtusk
, and Restoration Angel
one land, but three cards in hand that can be cast, not good enough for me mulligan
2nd time PrinceOfNeurosis draws: Forest
, Sunpetal Grove
, Plains
, Selesnya Charm
, Thragtusk
, Restoration Angel
.
Apoptosis1: plays Hallowed Fountain
tapped
PrinceOfNeurosis1: draws Voice of Resurgence
there you go, plays forest.
Apoptosis2: draws Azorius Charm
, plays sulfur falls
PrinceOfNeurosis2: draws 2nd Voice of Resurgence
, plays sunpetal grove, casts voice, in response Apoptosis casts think twice, draws Clifftop Retreat
, voice resolves
Apoptosis3: draws another Clifftop Retreat
and plays it
PrinceOfNeurosis3: draws Rancor
, plays plains, casts voice of resurgence but it gets dissipated, PrinceOfNeurosis gets an elemental token from voice already in play, casts rancor on voice, voice attacks (A16/P20)
Apoptosis4: draws Syncopate
, plays clifftop retreat
PrinceOfNeurosis4: draws Forest
and plays it. Attacks with voice and elemental, Apoptosis responds by Azorius Charm on the Voice, voice goes to top of library, rancor back to hand, PrinceOfNeurosis gets a 2nd Elemental and attacking elemental hits for 2 (A14/P20).
I am loathe to use Turn / Burn in this matchup for anything other then Voice of Resurgence . Thragtusk , and Angel of Serenity , its my best answer outside of straight counterspells
Apoptosis5: draws Hallowed Fountain
, plays it tapped
PrinceOfNeurosis5: draws Voice of Resurgence
and casts it, but it runs into syncopate for 3. PrinceOfNeurosis attacks with both elementals and hits for 4 (A10/P20)
Apoptosis6: draws Glacial Fortress
and plays it
PrinceOfNeurosis6: draws Forest
and plays it, attacks with 2 elementals, Apoptosis responds with flashed Restoration Angel
to blocks an elemental, PrinceOfNeurosis responds with Selesnya Charm
on the blocked elemental, Apoptosis responds with burn (Turn / Burn
) on the 2nd elemental. Burn resolves, 2nd elemental dies. 1st elemental deals 3 damage, angel kills elemental and she lives.
ok I realize that there were several ways this could have gone that would have made a bigger difference in PrinceOfNeurosiss favor. Thinking as PrinceOfNeurosis: my thought was hes countered two things so I want attack prior to casting to force the issue and see whether there is any response, if Apoptosis does nothing, then PrinceOfNeurosis brings Thragtusk into play. From that perspective, thats how things got started and went from there
Apoptosis7: draws Think Twice
and cast it, draws sphinxs revelation, flashback think twice to draw 2nd sphinx rev, play sacred foundry tapped. Attack with angel (A10/P17)
PrinceOfNeurosis7: draws Plains
, and plays it, casts Thragtusk
, cast rancor on thragtusk (A10/P22)
Apoptosis8: draws Mizzium Mortars
and casts it to kill thrag, PrinceOfNeurosis gets a beast.
PrinceOfNeurosis8: draws Trostani, Selesnya's Voice
and casts it, in response Apoptosis flashbacks think twice, draws glacial fortress, trostani sticks. PrinceOfNeurosis casts rancor on beast PrinceOfNeurosis doesnt want to lose beast to the angel before he can start the populate machine going, so no attack
Apoptosis9: draws Azorius Charm
, plays glacial fortress
PrinceOfNeurosis9: draws angel of serenity, populates the beast and gains 3 life (A10/P25), attacks with beast, resto angel blocks and both die (A9/P25), end step Apoptosis casts Sphinx's Revelation
for 5, draws: Hallowed Fountain
, Snapcaster Mage
, AEtherling
, Steam Vents
, Supreme Verdict
(A14/P25)perhaps the turning point for Apoptosis???
Apoptosis10: draws Syncopate , plays supreme verdict. Plays steam vents tapped.
a risk for Apoptosis to play them tapped and not having enough to syncopate a 4 CMC threat if PrinceOfNeurosis drops a land, but Apoptosis is most worried about voice, thrag, and angel of serenity. However, with snapcaster, Apoptosis can recast turn if needed (but alas not the fused version)
PrinceOfNeurosis10: draws Selesnya Charm
Apoptosis11: draws Cavern of Souls and plays it (shapeshifter), casts Aetherling, end step PrinceOfNeurosis flashes restoration angel.
PrinceOfNeurosis knows the race is on and needs to go on the attack now, Apoptosis wants to syncopate the angel but to do so would cause him to tap out, a bad idea when wanting to protect aetherling
PrinceOfNeurosis11: draws Thragtusk
and casts it, but runs into syncopate for 2, PrinceOfNeurosis casts rancor onto angel, attacks for 5 (A9/P25)
Apoptosis12: draws Steam Vents
, attacks with AEtherling
, pumps to 8/1, casts Azorius Charm
for lifegain (A17/P17), plays steam vents untapped (A15/P17)
PrinceOfNeurosis12: draws Plains
and plays it. PrinceOfNeurosis casts angel of serenity, but Apoptosis responds with Snapcaster Mage
targeting Dissipate
. Angel of serenity fizzles and is exiled. PrinceOfNeurosis attacks with restoration angel and hits for 5 (A10/P17)
Apoptosis13: draws Restoration Angel
, attacks with AEtherling
and Snapcaster Mage
(A10/P11). Plays hallowed fountain untapped (A8/P11)
PrinceOfNeurosis13: draws Sunpetal Grove
and plays it, attacks with Restoration Angel
(A3/P13), end step Apoptosis casts Sphinxs rev for 8 (A11/P11). Apoptosis draws: 2x Augur of Bolas
, Glacial Fortress
, Dissipate
, Hallowed Fountain
, Supreme Verdict
, AEtherling
, Sulfur Falls
and wins the award for worst draws in history, ok not that bad with the verdict and dissipate
Apoptosis14: draws Think Twice
, plays sulfur falls. makes aetherling unblockable and attacks as an 8/1 with snapcaster mage, before blocks PrinceOfNeurosiscasts Selesnya Charm
targeting AEtherling
, Apoptosis responds by having AEtherling
vanish until the end step. Snapcaster hits (A11/P9). Apoptosis casts supreme verdict. Aetherling returns to the ashs, Apoptosis discards hallowed fountain
notice that now Apoptosis is making AEtherling unblockable before declaring attack, before PrinceOfNeurosis was tapped out, now Apoptosis doesnt want AEtherling to walk into a trap
PrinceOfNeurosis14: draws Temple Garden and plays it tapped.
Apoptosis15: draws Turn / Burn
, plays glacial fortress. Makes Aetherling unblockable, attacks with aetherling (8/1) (A11/P1)
PrinceOfNeurosis15: draws Sunpetal Grove
and concedes.
Thoughts: its tough against control once it gets going. PrinceOfNeurosis having to mulligan hurt a little but you got good draws to make up for it to put on early pressure. Turn/burn is a mother-fucker against angel of serenity (it kills her and leaves all of her cards in permanent exile), thragtusk, and voice of resurgence. I think Turn / Burn is a cornerstone of my deck. Id like to run a game 3 tomorrow. If Behgz or you want to run one against AEtherling is Alright also please do! It's one of the decks that I like to play, but am not sure it's there.

you know PrinceOfNeurosis I was thinking about your deck some and I think it would really pay off to have 2-3x Rootborn Defenses , that will allow you to overextend and maintain board presence in the face of most board wipes and spot removal.
BalkanDS might have it right, in that your deck as aggro might benefit more with Ready / Willing and a splash of black, along the lines of how my deck Come hear my dark voice is currently configured and my deck would be better off as straight Selesnya with Rootborn Defenses .
Anyway, I want to run a game 3 against my AEtherling is Alright. I'll leave your deck as configured, but will make a note that 2x Angel of Serenity and 2x Farseek could have been Rootborn Defenses (i.e. if you were holding the latter with open mana when a spot removal or board wipe hits). Of course, that's not the real change I would suggest. I would go 3x Rootborn Defenses and one more Selesnya Charm or a 2nd garruk. Anyway, starting game 3 now, with that in mind...

Game 3: PrinceOfNeurosis The Voices of Selesnya against Apoptosis AEtherling is Alright
PrinceOfNeurosis on the play and draws: Sunpetal Grove
, Gavony Township
, Farseek
, Rancor
, Angel of Serenity
, Restoration Angel
not a good draw, but with farseek you can mana fix pretty easy, still since you are playing control I think you want to mulligan to try to get a more aggressive opening hand
2nd time PrinceOfNeurosis draws: 2x Temple Garden
, Sunpetal Grove
, Gavony Township
, Voice of Resurgence
, Loxodon Smiter
much better as long as you get decent midrange draws, which this deck has a lot of
Apoptosis draws: Cavern of Souls
, 2x Clifftop Retreat
, Supreme Verdict
, Turn / Burn
, Ral Zarek
, Sphinx's Revelation
ugh would be fine except no blue mana source could be really really bad. Screw it, Ill gamble.
P1: Plays Temple Garden
tapped
A1: draws Steam Vents
thank god and plays it tapped.
P2: draws Selesnya Charm
. Plays sunpetal grove, casts voice of resurgence.
A2: draws Glacial Fortress
(so much for mana worries). Plays clifftop retreat. I can burn voice now, but am still facing the elemental, think Ill wait on it
P3: draws a 2nd Gavony Township
, plays it. Attacks with voice of resurgence and hits (P20/A18). PrinceOfNeurosis casts loxodon smiter.
A3: draws AEtherling
. (ugh wheres Mizzium Mortars
? Apoptosis is going to be in bad shape if he doesnt do something, needs to kill voice now) Apoptosis plays glacial fortress and casts burn from Turn / Burn
to kill voice, PrinceOfNeurosis gets an elemental token.
P4: draws Avacyn's Pilgrim
and casts it, plays temple garden untapped (P18/A18), attacks with elemental and loxodon smiter, both hit (P18/A11)
A4: draws Hallowed Fountain
, plays clifftop retreat, casts Supreme Verdict
(phew, Apoptosis thought that would be worse, still getting used to the patience it requires to play control, instinct is to see it/kill it -not good)
P5: draws (Thragtusk
??) no actually its Rancor
(damn), plays gavony township, casts Selesnya Charm
to get a knight and puts rancor on it
PrinceOfNeurosis wants to keep pressure on, lets see whether a token and gavony township can get it done.
A5: draws Augur of Bolas
, plays hallowed fountain tapped, casts Ral Zarek
, who in turn lightning bolts (-2) the token knight (L=2)
P6: draws Loxodon Smiter
and casts it and Rancor
A6: draws Think Twice
, plays cavern of souls (shapeshifter), casts augur of bolas revealing Syncopate
, Sulfur Falls
, Azorius Charm
, puts azorius charm in hand, uses Ral Zarek
+1 to tap loxodon smiter and untap hallowed fountain (L=3)
P7: draws Plains
and plays it, loxodon smiter attacks Ral Zarek, Apoptosis casts Azorius Charm
, sending loxodon smiter to top of library, rancor to hand. End step Apoptosis casts think twice and draws Dissipate
perfect draw for Apoptosis
A7: draws Glacial Fortress
and plays it, taps a land for mana, uses Ral Zarek +1 to untap it and tap another (L=4)nah nah no mana burn!
P8: draws Loxodon Smiter
and plays it, but Apoptosis responds with Dissipate
, exiling the smiter, end step Apoptosis flashbacks think twice to draw hallowed fountain
that might have been game for PrinceOfNeurosis, who really needs to stick a Garruk, Primal Hunter
and start pooping beasts!
A8: draws Augur of Bolas
, plays hallowed fountain tapped, casts augur of bolas drawing Augur of Bolas
, Clifftop Retreat
, Think Twice
, puts think twice in hand and casts it, draws syncopate. Apoptosis attacks with the augur of bolas played on A6, who hits (P17/A11), Ral Zarek taps gavony township to untap hallowed fountain (L=5)
P9: draws Forest
(PrinceOfNeurosis: fucking land screw) and plays it, end step Apoptosis flashback think twice to draw sacred foundry
A9: draws Azorius Charm
, plays sacred foundry tapped. Ral Zarek untaps sacred foundry and taps gavony township (L=6) Apoptosis attacks with both augur of bolas (P15/A11).
P10: draws Plains
(PrinceOfNeurosis: ugh!) and plays it. End step, Apoptosis casts sphinxs revelation for 6 (P15/A17) and draws: Supreme Verdict
, 2x Sulfur Falls
, Turn / Burn
, Hallowed Fountain
, and Restoration Angel
(Apoptosis: and boom goes the dynamite)
A10: draws Mizzium Mortars
. plays sulfur falls, casts aetherling. Both augur of bolas attack (P13/A17) Ral Zarek taps gavony township and untaps glacial fortress. (L=7), discards hallowed fountain at end step.
P11: draws Silverblade Paladin
and casts it, it sticks. Casts rancor on paladin, it sticks too.
A11: draws Sphinx's Revelation
. plays sulfur falls. Ral Zarek
s ultimate goes off: two coins come up heads (two extra turns for Apoptosis). Apoptosis makes aetherling unblockable and attacks with it at 8/1 (P5/A17)
A12: draws Desolate Lighthouse and plays it, makes aetherling unblockable and attacks for game as a 5/4.
AEtherling is Alright takes match 2-1. Thoughts: game really turned after supreme verdict, which gains control decks card advantage and makes it really tough for this midrange deck to recover. The mulligan and three land draws midgame when you really needed to be landing threats didnt help either, but they could just have easily been a dead Farseek or Avacyn's Pilgrim draw. But my opening hand was only decent, and I would have been screwed if I hadnt drawn a blue mana source. I think your deck may be stuck between midrange and aggro, and might not be good enough at either -you will need more playtesting to see whether thats actually true. Its hard to say much after only a few games, but you might consider leaning further to one side or the other. I dont like Farseek in this deck, because of Voice of Resurgence (elemental power depends on creatures). I would rather see Gyre Sage as a 2x instead. You do need answers to board wipes (Rootborn Defenses ) and control (e.g. Pithing Needle , Oblivion Ring ) out of the sideboard. You are not going to beat control decks through card advantage: at the end of game Apoptosis had 29 cards left in his library, PrinceOfNeurosis had 45. The Voices of Selesnya needs a different way to beat control game 1, for instance you need a great opening hand of fast aggro and a Rootborn Defenses type opener to maintain board advantage. Anyway, hope this helps.

Oh shit, I just realized a big screw up: "P8: draws Loxodon Smiter and plays it, but Apoptosis responds with Dissipate , exiling the smiter, end step Apoptosis flashbacks think twice to draw hallowed fountain" Loxodon Smiter can not be countered. Sorry about that PrinceOfNeurosis!
The loxodon would have resolved P8 and have attacked P9 killing an augur of bolas, then on P10 bounced again by the A9 azorius charm drawn, P10 end step A would have sphinx's rev for 3 and not gotten the resto angel or hallowed fountain, but would turn / burn the loxodon on A10, setting aetherling back a turn. Ral Zarek's ultimate would have been pushed back 3 turns. So would have PrinceOfNeurosis pulled it out? Doubt it, but possible.

Goody saw that as I was reviewing, absolutely correct and a bad screw up on my part. Saw that and went f-u-c-k
