What the deck does: Mill.
I need help forming a side board mainly. I know I want 2 Pithing Needle's. I just put the rest of the cards that I think have some use in the deck into Maybeboard.
The walls are for board control and when Phenax, God of Deception hits the board, everything becomes insane mill.
Doorkeeper
Only 1 just to fill the deck and have another 2 drop..don't really like him. Normally only have 2-3 creatures out. 3 for 3 mill while with Phenax its 0 for 4..just seems bad.
Returned Phalanx
is my two drop of choice because it can mill 3 later, or early poke against planeswalkers during control match-ups.
Consuming Aberration is just one scary dude. With Phenax, he doubles the opponent's graveyard. Without Phenax, he still mills a bit or hits them in the face.
Pilfered Plans is just Divination + Mill.
Psychic Strike is a mill version of
Dissolve
.
Phenax, God of Deception is why mill can even have a chance. It is the little bonus that Dimir needed.
Jace, Memory Adept an endless 10 mill if unanswered, or card draw if necessary.
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver actually on the fence about Ashiok. It is really good turn 3 drop though. If unanswered I can drop their creatures and play against them. Ultimate would obviously be amazing.
SIDEBOARD
Crypt Incursion has been suggested a lot, and if I draw this after milling a creature deck at all, it's a huge bonus. Gives me much more time to mill them.
Syncopate
People tap out for their big cards way too often. 2 mana counter and exile. Against control decks, I always wish I had a few more counter spells.
Pithing Needle Meta requirement.
Psychic Spiral
Just one to shift the tides on the mirror match. Oh, we both have each other milled to half our decks? Psychic Spiral GG.
Whispering Madness Decks that excel me in draw power cough cough Sphinx cough cough. Haven't really tested, but making them, but especially with Sphinx, they discard down to their 7 best cards. then I make then discard all of those for a random 7, and I draw 7 cards.
Death's Approach
one cost removal card for mill against creature decks. Against a control deck, Aetherling can just blink to dodge any removal; Blood Baron has pro black for all black removal. I like it.
Cyclonic Rift For when I am taken to the edge of a game, the guy has board covered, then I bounce it all to his hand and slow him down considerably. Gives me a few turns to finish the mill.
