Maybeboard

Introduction

From humble beginnings as a mono red (15 dollar) deck, this is built to be my competetive modern deck for use in leagues.

If anyone has any suggestions especially for the side board OR even strategies they have found helpful they would be appreciated.

Thank you for looking and I hope you like, +1 and comment on this deck.

Key Points

This deck is built to be aggressive, whilst also having the ability to grind through the later game if it is disrupted early on.

For example, against many decks it acts as a normal aggro, planning to win by around turn 4. However, the life gain aspect also allows it favourable match ups against burn, mirror, and other aggressive strategies.

Against a midrange/ long game deck running disruption and counters the lifegain early game should put it ahead on life advantage enough to close out the late game even after they have ''switched on''.

The Sideboard Explained

Against Mirror/ Aggro= Blind Obedience, Grand Abolisher, Mana Tithe and Silence

  • in truth the deck should be favourable against these types of strategies because of its lifegain. However these cards will significantly affect their game plan. With Silence cast it after they draw and you may as well Pay 1 mana to steal opponents turn

Against Affinity= Blind Obedience, Kataki, War's Wage and Grand Abolisher and Ghost Quarter

  • So, here we can really grind this match up down and take it on if not favourably then atleast punch for punch.Kataki, War's Wage makes their artifacts costly to keep hold of, kill their Nexus manlands off with Ghost Quarter and pretty much Stony Silence them during your turn with Grand Abolisher

Against Graveyard= Relic of Progenitus, and Ash Zealot

  • So, pretty standard graveyard hate with Relic. If they are playing a lot of flashback Ash Zealot will punish them with a Lightning Bolt To The Face For Free! everytime they try and pull a trick off. Against Goyf? no problem, just Relic out its toughness and power then exile the bugger with Path to Exile or Pillar of Flame
  • ''what doesn't grow dies, and what dies, gets completely exiled including the Tarmogoyf''

Agasinst Control/Midrange= Mana Tithe, Grand Abolisher, Silence depending on deck type= Ash Zealot (B/W tokens) Kataki, War's Wage, Ghost Quarter

  • as mentioned earlier, the deck does have a longer game plan if it hasn't cut off a midrange deck. However, the spells listed will offer affects to delay the switch on and prolong your aggro window. In the event of a midrange deck coming on line, you have multiple options depending on that decks type. Further more, allstars like Grand Abolisher will seriously hinder control/ counter magic strategies because of the opponents inability to cast spells during your turn. To aid it Mana Tithe can counter and outcost their removal spells aimed at Abolisher.
