The idea is to play a series of resilient threats, such as Reckoners and Ash Zealots, supported by auras such as Ethereal Armor and Dragon's Mantle. Eventually, a Purphoros lands supported by either Ajani's Chosen, Assemble the Legion, or a Legion's Initiative.

The reason the deck has 25 lands is because it's more midrange than aggro, eschewing one drops for the potential to get both a Hammer of Purphoros turn 3 and an Ajani's Chosen turn 4. As the Hammer makes Enchantment Artifact Creature tokens, which triggers Chosen, you can turn each spare land into a hasted 3/3 golem accompanied by a hasted 2/2 cat.

I find that the deck has a great deal of flexibility in choosing roles thanks to the core of 2 and 3 drop creatures - against aggro match ups, you've got plenty of time to sit back. Chandra, Ajani's Chosen, and Assemble the Legion develop your board state while you sit behind the wall posed by either burn and Chained to the Rocks or one of your cheap creatures with first strike. Against slower decks, such as Monoblack and Esper, you can apply early pressure with a turn 2 Zealot followed up by a turn 3 Ethereal Armor and Legion's Initiative, swinging with a 5/4, or a turn 2 Legion's Initiative into a 4/4 Reckoner or 5/5 Firstblade on your third turn.
