This is a decklist that is at least heavily inspired by, if not copied from, James Fazzolari's Boros Pyromaster deck as seen on the ChannelFireball website. All creative credit goes to him.
The idea behind the deck is very similar to many current standard RDW decks, albeit with the inclusion of Chained to the Rocks and some boros scry/shocklands, and the exclusion of
Fanatic of Mogis
. Fazzolari has an excellent article titled "Playing with Fire - Boros Pyromaster" on the ChannelFireball website with an explanation of this deck. I will attempt to summarize it as such; splashing white for Chained to the Rocks is an immense benefit to a RDW, and leaving out
Fanatic of Mogis
for this and additional
Chandra, Pyromaster
s makes a better deck overall. Young Pyromancer is a key play in this deck, as he can generate great board presence with all the burn it is running. The burn also helps make better use of
Chandra's Phoenix
. Splashing white also grants the deck access to the great Boros Charm and helps cast Boros Reckoner.
I'm looking for some suggestions as to my sideboard. My local meta is skewed heavily towards mono black and control (esper), but also has a decent amount of Gruul ramp (there's a really good one that one guys runs) and white/boros weenies.
My current sideboard includes the cards you see in the list.
2x Act of Treason is a great card against mono black and Gruul. Stealing a Polukranos, World Eater or
Desecration Demon
for a turn often more than doubles a turn's potential damage (one less blocker, one more attacker).
2x Boros Charm is great against control. The indestructible is very relevant against Supreme Verdict and can also be used to deal 4 damage straight-up or provide double strike to swing for the win.
3x Boros Reckoner is a monster against weenie decks of all kinds. There are enough weenie decks in my meta to warrant running three of these.
2x Chained to the Rocks to up the count to a total of 4 against big aggro, especially Gruul and some mono black.
2x
Hammer of Purphoros
against control. It allows my creatures to swing on their first turn out, which is relevant in case they draw a removal spell they want to cast. Sacking mountains can also be an important way to keep the fire burning late game, when most of my creatures are in the graveyard.
2x Mizzium Mortars because it has the best damage to CMC ratio of any burn spell right now, and is very relevant against most aggro decks. Kills Blood Baron of Vizkopa which can save a game.
2x Skullcrack mostly against Sphinx's Revelation. Big lifegain can negate any effect this deck has been putting on my opponent for the last few turns, and preventing it is paramount to success.
I'm interested in running
Burning Earth
especially against control. Fazzolari also had the idea of running an Assemble the Legion or two against aggro decks to outnumber them with chumpers and generate massive board advantage.
Any suggestions regarding my sideboard would be much appreciated. Thanks!
