So I've ran a play test and the result was rather strange. Just like I planned the deck ramps up fairly late but when it does creatures just drop in turn after turn until all hades breaks lose with both Serra angel and molten primordial conning in at roughly the sane time. Using A late played Hellraiser Goblin I can give my Serra Angel haste which lets it deal it's insane damage along with almost all my other creatures.

Why not just make an EDH deck? This deck is far too slow for any of the other constructed formats, except perhaps kitchen table

That's why I had it under casual. I'm well aware of its speed issei and honestly I wasn't going for speed when I built it. I was just trying to get a deck that I could use.

Cool concept, except the deck is still a bit all over the place. the problem is that you are running 1 copy of most things. And in 60 card, thats not very effective as you usually draw the stuff you don't need or you needed a turn ago. 4 offs always feel like a cop out but thats basically what you need unless half the deck is devoted to draw. and that doesn't really happen in red/white.

Recommendations wise:

4x Lightning Bolt - its cheap (both to buy and play), it's effective and more importantly, its unconditional.

4x Fencing Ace - good creature and when buffed is brutal.

2x Glorious Anthem - buff yo' weenies.

As a general rule, make sure that your creatures do more than one thing (unless they are literally in there for power value, e.g. Woolly Thoctar ). Red/White has a lot of cool effects.

But more importantly, pick a theme. this will help the deck to have synergy. So no matter what you draw you get gain from it. This has the potential to be a really cool deck but you need to focus it.

Hence the name scatterbrained but yeah. Thanks for the tip. I'll see about putting those cards in and testing it out.

No problem. Is there a budget limit you are working to (I appreciate that recommending $60 cards just becasue they are good can be unfeasible)? I can see a few really good ideas within the deck, it just needs a bit of trimming back :P

I made a few changes to the deck and it defiantly runs a little faster than at first and seems to have enough manna to run most everything.

Not sure that card has a place in this deck. I already have a Suntail Hawk

May 8, 2014 8:45 a.m.

Boros Elite is better than suntail in this deck because half of the deck is creatures and it is the same CMC yes suntail is flying, but this guy does better in the early game. May want to go for Tajic, Blade of the Legion as well.

This deck isn't going for the early game. It is designed to take the opponent's first strike then deliver a nuclear death strike to the opponent.

21 lands and a 68 card deck isn't a good combo. you need more lands or less cards, especially since you have a lot of higher cost stuff in here. You probably want around 23-24 lands, and the card count has GOT to come down if you want this to be remotely consistent.

Guttersnipe , why? You only have 8 instants and 2 sorceries. At current that's less than 1/6 cards you'll find.

Chandra, the Firebrand , neat, but only if you run a bunch of good instant and sorceries.

Fencing Ace is a GREAT creaure. But at present he's not doing much for you since he only really does stuff when he gets more powerful and you're not running enough things that do that for it to be consistent.

Chandra's Outrage . an over-cost mediocre card at best.

Low cost creatures. You may not want to win with them, and that's fine. But you will need them for things like blocking your opponent's army of Memnite s and Signal Pest s

My advice, you're trying to do too many things at once. concentrate your efforts and get some more hard removal in this deck. Not everything takes regular damage, so you can't burn it all.

Okay, okay. I took a look at the deck price estimate and it was like $417 on the low side. I guess that you have a bunch a cards floating around the house and you want to toss together some deck and thats what you need help with. But in order for us to recommend cards we need to know your budget (you said it was $80) so we need to know which cards you HAVE and which cards you WANT. Then we can better recommend to your budget.

FYI ditch Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded . Just. God damn. He's so incredibly bad, hell he's even worse in the archetype your using, let alone going for.Your deck wants to bust stuff out fast right? So you'll be emptying your hand rather quickly. Thing is, Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded doesn't actually offer "draw advantage", in the sense that you end up with more than you started a la Divination . That's fine, "looting" draw works well, but Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded 's ability is random discard. You're going to have so little in your hand when you NEED to use him that you'll end up discarding the card you just drew, that is, the card you actually wanted.

TL:DR-tell us which of these cards you own so we have a better idea of what you would have to buy. And "draw" Wild Guess or Faithless Looting , and "discard" Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded .

Oh yeah, Slumbering Dragon is a pretty neat "build off your enemy's attack than hit back harder" card. Pretty nice for the kitchen table too.

I should have you know sir that Tibalt actually does have a place in this deck. I use him (at my own risk) as a sort of trump card when after four turns of his +1 I can sac him and use his -6 which is where this deck would really shine. Once I have everyone's creatures I can kill all of them with one massive strike or (once I find a card to do this) sac them and buff my creatures.

As for the budget thing that's all done with. I bought most of what I need to get this deck solid and then from there it's all about reforming and refining it to make it even stronger.

I'm not quite sure what your deck is trying to do other than damage, so I'm going to list a bunch of helpful cheap immediate upgrades for this deck:

-4x Explosive Impact for 4x Thunderous Wrath (but I suggest running 2-3 max. Personally I'd run 1-2.)

-2x Assault Griffin for 2x Seraph of the Sword

-1x Dawnstrike Paladin for 1x Dawnbringer Charioteers '

-2x Shock for 2x Burst Lightning

Derpnaster says... #21

That's exactly what I'm trying to do with it. Damage everything in any way I possibly can in this type of deck.

Derpnaster says... #22

I also might add a Launch the Fleet or two to the sideboard since it could work with Tibalt's -6 or even as a general use token drop card to add to my second strike capability that this deck aims to hone and perfect. (Hence all the late drops and the Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded )

There's a lot of advice floating around here regarding which cards you should add or drop. Ignore that. All of it. Yes, ignore it.

Until you've figured out what this deck is meant to do, those suggestions are meaningless. Tip: "second strike" isn't going to cut it. It's not a good plan to ignore the early game. Sure, some decks move slower than others, but just saying your plan is "let them do damage until I get big monsters" isn't going to work - by the time your monsters hit the field, you will be behind and playing catchup, while your opponent's decks are preparing for their endgame. Remember - they've likely got big monsters coming too, except they've prepared for them.

With Red/White, there are a lot of viable strategies. However, getting big creatures is not one of them. Neither Red nor White is known for putting up heavy hitters - they're much more suited to fast, low-cost, small damage creatures that overwhelm. If you're really committed to trying to go slow, look to Green/Black combos instead.

I'm not certain you quite understand how this strategy really works; so I'll elaborate on it a little.

  1. You NEVER let the opponent deal damage EVERY turn. That's where all the burn spells come into play. While they will still be able to attack they also run the risk of getting screwed if they run weaker early creatures. And furthermore with some of the one and two drop creatures the deck has it can more than survive a initial attack.

  2. The entire time you're waiting to end everything YOU'RE SETTING UP. Unlike most Red White decks this one isn't just a rush deck focused on just getting down weaker creatures. Rather while you use Soulmender and other life gain cards; you also set up a massive attack.

  3. Once you get to the 7th turn is when this deck will roll in everything. By that time it has the ability to stomp out an opponent who would still be setting up a turn ten kill(Which is the average kill turn where I play).

  4. Second Strike isn't the only way to win thanks ti the ability to rotate out certain cards to change the focus.

I'm sensing a little hostility arising in this discussion, but there's no ill will in our recommendations; we are just coming from different perspectives built from our meta-games and experiences and trying to understand what this deck is.

Would you take Skyknight Legionnaire over Sunspire Griffin ? What about Porcelain Legionnaire over Regathan Firecat ? Balefire Liege over Pitchburn Devils ? How about Nobilis of War ?

I am seeing vigilance being a big part in your deck so I'm going to suggest Cerodon Yearling over Skinbrand Goblin since the goblin's bloodrush really only boosts your attacking power, and its bloodrush is somewhat lacking in my opinion.

There are a lot of highly regarded useful red/white cards like Boros Charm , Lightning Helix , Warleader's Helix as well as fun cards like Spark Trooper that we could suggest, that may or may not help your strategy.

We don't want to pick apart your brain, or try to make you conform to be just another Boros deck (the main importance is to enjoy the game) but we need a little more insight on things like: Opinions of Aurelia, the Warleader ? Do Pitchburn Devils feel worth the mana cost?

Anyways my main suggestion for right now is to cut down to 60-62 cards, I would personally throw out pitchburn devils and lose one set of the archetypes, but that's just me.
