I'll think about it but for now I'll have to test the current version to see if it runs the way it should before I go and spend another $40-$100 on this deck

What kind of deck do you want it to be? I see cards scattered all around, without a central theme. Boros has battalion. Do you want to use possible boros mechanics in a token swarm with Purphoros, God of the Forge or something else?

Right now it's not quite a token swarm. Rather a whole feild swarm. Though I might start changing out some of the lower drops. The idea of swarming only will work if I have the time to set up enough creatures and enchantments to actually get tokens down and able to survive to the next turn.

As for its strategy. At it's core I need a lot more creatures with either Haste or Vigilance. I have the ability to grant both First Strike and Trample as it is.

I'll be blunt. This deck needs complete revamping. Under a central theme, it can do really well. Some examples might be token swarm with Krenko's Command , Young Pyromancer , Purphoros, God of the Forge , and/or Hellrider . A different approach would be straight up burn, with access to cards like Young Pyromancer to provide chump blockers long enough for the Lightning Bolt s and Lightning Helix s to take effect. There are far too many high mana cost cards here without structure. What sounds like a good centralized theme for you?

You're looking at it. As usual with most people here you fail to see that this is a LATE GAME counterstrike deck. It's not a freaking aggro Boros or anything even CLOSE to a normal deck. If you want to understand it first throw out everything you know about Boros decks. Then come tell me this needs a bloody revamp.

Just trying to help, you know like the thing on top of the deck saying "Help Seriously Needed" asked for. And you didn't really say as much. If you want a late game, try stall, like Ghostly Prison . Lightning Helix can provide decent lifegain for you to survive longer with, etc. That help?

Yes it does. More so than your earlier comment.

Ok, before I say anything else, how good do you want this to become?

Let me see then... One of the best field removals red has to offer early game is Pyroclasm , but I prefer Anger of the Gods for hitting more targets. Windborn Muse is the creature version of Ghostly Prison and combos well with Story Circle . Field wipes are one of white's specialties, so Wrath of God can really screw over aggro, giving you time for strong cards. Instead of Serra Angel , I'd go go Baneslayer Angel . Same cost, 10 times more badass.

As good as posable without sacrificing its core metroid of winning.

Explain your concept of your deck to me then.

Counterstrike.

Rather than conform to the normal Boros aggro weinie rush and just be another sheep in the bloody flock I decided to make use of the strike capabilities of Boros in the later game. The first (and hardest part) of this strategy is to burn out ramp cards and use smaller creatures to weather initial attacks. Part two is the one I have down a little better. In essence it's just either blowing up the board and getting my creatures down to end the fight quickly or (and this is much easier in this dexk right now) turn the board into a mosh pit by taking the biggest creature from the opponent (with no chance to counter it) and blowing them up with a air and ground strike.

And how do you plan on surviving until the counterstrike part though? I'll be honest, I play competitively, so I don't exactly have experience with homebrews. But this deck will never win in a competitive atmosphere using cards like Assault Griffin , Dawnstrike Paladin , Regathan Firecat (good with first strike, but otherwise useless), Sunspire Griffin , and Soulmender . Which I'm afraid to say is a rather significant part of your deck.

Derpnaster says... #14

It wasn't meant for competing. And as for how it survives. That's tge part I'm still working on . No one really gives advice on that part. Right now I think I'll exchange a few burn spells for life gain.

Story circle and field wipes help. An early Pyroclasm would stall aggro. White has access to many good survival cards.

May 11, 2014 5:11 p.m.

xzzane says... #16

That's not a good solution I'm afraid. Soulmender should be cut as well. The lifegain is too little over too long of a period, and if you draw it late game it is useless. If you are worried about survival perhaps one of these: angel song, Batwing Brume , Dawn Charm Holy Day , Kami of False Hope Pollen Lullaby could find a place instead.

I was referring to the lifegain, not what cipher said just to be clear.

I'll need to add those when I get the time and money for it.

Several of the cards I posted can be bought for well under a dollar. Tcgplayer.com is a good resource to buy from.

I'll see about it. I'm trying to minimalise investment and maximize total value for this deck.

you need more low-cost creatures that can soak up damage or stall through attacks. Also I might change Soulmender for Auriok Champion or another more versitile creature.

Another good survival tactic is just plain and simple walls. AEtherflame Wall , AEther Membrane , Cathedral Membrane , Order of the Stars , Perimeter Captain , Pride Guardian , Wall of Essence , Wall of Hope , Wall of Omens are all some interesting options to try out.

Shock needs to be replaced with Burst Lightning . The latter is more flexible and has the same early-game application.

with very few exceptions Crown of Flames will out-perform Blessing every time.

alternatives for Explosive Impact include: Banefire , Beacon of Destruction , Brimstone Volley , Thunderous Wrath and even Font of Ire would be a step up.

Derpnaster says... #22

Alright. Now that I have a good list of creatures and spells to change out. What cards should be changed out and what ones changed in? And how many of each card?

enpc says... #23

Crown of Flames Looks cool but also consider Dragon Mantle . It gives you a cantrip and currently the deck is completely lacking draw.

May 11, 2014 8:47 p.m.

Personally I think Rest for the Weary is better (by far!) than Soulmender . Cause if you think about it, no modern game is supposed to be longer than 8 turns. So soulmender will never be as good as Rest for the Weary .

May 12, 2014 10:45 a.m.

Derpnaster says... #25

Ok here's what I got.

Swap out Soulmender for either Rest for the weary or auriok champion

Remove Shock and replace with Burst lightning.

Both griffins have to go and should be replaced with angels with vigilance, lifelink, or both. The Firecat while good with first strike is too slow for a Counterstrike and shiudk be swaped out for life gain spells.

Serra Angel is good as is and dosen't need to be swapped but can be for another Angel.Dawnstrike paladin needs to be replaced with something with lifelink or another big creature.

And lastly explosive impact should be swapped for a wall creature to add survivability.

This alright for a plan?
