Cool deck, nice name, I gave it a +1.. I should have said that first. Sorry for the confusion. I really like Silence + Eidolon of Rhetoric + Ebony Owl Netsuke.

Cyclonic Rift seems like your best win condition. I would add more control elements so you can stall until you have enough to cast it, then clean up from there.

+1 Completely awesome deck name.

December 3, 2014 11:14 p.m.

@ Colma -- No problem! Thanks, I saw the draw method but figured I'd try it my own way :)

@ vishnarg -- I want to add Boomerangs but I'm not sure where...

I just did some testing and played against Affinity... this doesn't work. At all. Affinity drops 75% of its opening hand on the first turn, and I never have the opportunity to keep their hand big enough to even want to drop the Owl.

Thanks, Fulcrum!

Against affinity, your only chance would be sideboarding in and casting multiple Hurkyl's Recall.

December 3, 2014 11:37 p.m.

Stony Silence also wrecks affinity. A friend of mine plays it, and he has no choice but to scoop to a turn 2 Stony Silence. You could try that.

December 3, 2014 11:40 p.m.

@ Fulcrum & vishnarg -- Even without Stony Silence, the build I was facing ran Master of Etherium which was a huge problem. Should I opt to run a combination of Hurkyl's Recall and Stony Silence over Steel Sabotage?

A combination of Stony Silence and Hurkyl's Recall is probably your best bet. SS shuts down affinity for the most part and Recall fits with the theme of the deck.

@ Fulcrum -- I changed up the SB a little bit to be more versatile and effective. Let me know what you think!

I like the changes you made, but you can do more. You already mainboard 4 Eidolon of Rhetoric, so I don't see a need for Ethersworn Canonist in the sideboard. Additionally, you should probably have some Path to Exile in the sideboard. I would cut 2 Ethersworn Canonist, 2 Celestial Flare, and 2 Echoing Truth for 2 Path to Exile, 2 more Leyline of Sanctity (ensure you have an okay sideboard against burn), and 2 Relic of Progenitus (for decks that can use graveyard as a resource, since that will be one area of the the game as of now you have no control over it).

December 4, 2014 7:45 p.m.

@ vishnarg -- I'm not sure about removing Celestial Flare from the sideboard, but I agree that Relic of Progenitus and maybe another Leyline of Sanctity should be there. Maybe remove two Ethersworn Canonist and one Echoing Truth for those three?

Funny story. Just played against a R/b Burn deck, lost the first game likely due to a misplay on my part (should have Sphinx's Revelation instead of attacking with Celestial Colonnade, but these will become less frequent as I learn the deck... I hope). I was down to about 10 life in the second game, he was still up around 17 or so. I drop Eidolon of Rhetoric and then the next turn imprint Remand onto Isochron Scepter, and he tells me it's banned (after asking if I'm new to the game, which to be honest, my rules are a little rusty, but still). I reply with a link to the Wizard's page with the official banlist and he replies with something like "that's stupid, no more modern for me" and leaves the game. He was pleasant about it, and wished me a good night and such, but I still thought it was a little funny.

Well first of all, that story is absolutely hilarious.

Secondly, I REALLY like the changes.

I agree that Ethersworn Canonist should be dropped considering you already have Eidolon of Rhetoric.

I honestly like Celestial Flare here; it can get rid of some things that Path can't. However, Path is good enough to warrant at least 2 spots somewhere in the 75.

It's up to you whether you want the playset of Leyline or not. Every subsequent draw of it is a dead draw though. However, not having it against Burn could end you pretty quickly.

You probably want Relic of Progenitus somewhere. That or Rest in Peace, but I find Relic to be a better card most of the time. Most of the time, you're going to be using it to screw over Treasure Cruise decks. There's not a lot of reanimation out there, and the ones that are out there will just Abrupt Decay your Relic/RIP.

I like how this is looking though. Nice job here.

Relic is much more than just a way to thwart Treasure Cruise - let's not forget about Tarmogoyf, Snapcaster Mage, Pyromancer's Ascension, Eternal Witness/Reveillark in Pod matchups, Grim Lavamancer, Living End, Gifts Ungiven, etc.

@ Fulcrum & vishnarg -- About to make more SB changes! Thank you again for the suggestions :) If you have the chance to test this out either yourself or online or something please let me know how it performs :)

okI knew it wasn't possiblebut I only looked because of the name, almost sure that there would have been a little something to see >///>

December 6, 2014 12:12 p.m.

@ Vedar666 -- I'm sure you could find what you're looking for if you change the t in TappedOut to an f, or something like that. I could always find you a gif of an owl hopping around ;) Jokes aside, thank you for the comment and upvote!

Lol this deck is really not budget bro... Love the deck though

December 8, 2014 4:06 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #21

@jrogers16: I think it started off being budget, and then JexInfinite, vishnarg, and I came along.

December 8, 2014 5:02 p.m.

See Fulcrum's comment. Was originally ~$80, then SB brought to ~$120, then came Leyline of Sanctity and Celestial Colonnade and my budget went poof. Like most decks, skill gets you pretty far. Money gets you just that much farther.

Thanks, scrotality! I played a few modern games and I kept seeing the same lists over and over, so I decided to try something new. Let me know if you have any suggestions :)

Judge's Familiar? fits the owl theme as well as providing a swift kick to the nards.
