Sideboard

So the initial idea for this deck came from the Archfiend of Ifnir. His passive ability that can potentially be a one sided board wipe seemed really good. You combine that with a wheel effect like Collective Defiance and Fateful Showdown and that felt pretty powerful. I think the trick for a deck like this to work is to make sure the cards around them work with him, but can also do good things when he's not on the board.

I started with both the Nest of Scarabs and the Faith of the Devoted, but that wasn't working. The only cards that gave -1 counters were the archfiend and the sniper, and that meant the nest just sat there a lot as a table ornament. So I took them out and tried to focus more on the Faith of the Devoted. That focus is better, but it's still a struggle.

The deck is capable of some really powerful turns. Early in the game a turn 3 Bloodrage Brawler pitching a Fiery Temper- I mean, him on turn 2 is pretty good too, but the added burn spell is nice. Any Cathartic Reunion that can pitch a temper, or that has mana open to drain off the devoted enchantment is also nice. Later in the game, these same plays are that much more insane with the Archfiend out.

So here's where I'm having some issues. I'm falling behind on cards. None of the card draw in the deck actually gain you cards- with the exception of when you can pitch a temper. I know this is a midrange deck with some aggressive cards\ draws, but besides just adding in cards like Live Fast, are there any cards that help me build card advantage. Something I can pitch to a reunion\ brawler that I can get back or play from the yard? Scrapheap Scrounger is the only thing that comes to mind, but I don't have a ton of creatures in the build to help recur him.

Now looking for help with the sideboard. What I'm current running is listed.

Thanks for the look and the help.

Updates Add

So I haven't picked up this deck in a while, and even when I did I wasn't sure if it was going to survive rotation. All the madness cards are gone and that subtracts from what the Fiend can do...

So a few updates:

Lightning Strike was an easy include. It's been a staple for burn before, and I'm sure it will be again. 3 damage, 2 mana, instant speed- yep.

Magma Spray is a nod to the return of the Llanowar Elves. I'm not sure if I'll keep it the spray, or perhaps switch to the shock, only testing will tell.

The Flame of Keld is another card I've been testing with. It fits the discard theme, gives a bit of boost in the card draw department, and the damage boost is nice too. One of the problems I mentioned earlier was falling behind on cards, and this helps with that a bit. Typically by the time I'm ready to cast it, I'm low on cards already. I don't usually lose too many\ any cards to it. It's a better top deck than the Cathartic Reunion, and it also combo's well with the Bomat Courier. So far in testing, I've discovered that if I have the Key to the City I'm discarding the Flame.

Also, a corner niche is playing the Flame with the Fiend on the table and a few cards in hand- can sweep the board.

The Soul-Scar Mage is a solid 1 drop that benefits from all the spells we're casting, and also provides an option for dealing with indestructible creatures.

And the Field of Ruin is a necessary evil for all the flip and utility lands in the field right now.

Even with all the changes, the deck is showing at under $79.00- and most of that is the mana base.
