Use Altar of Dementia or Carrion Feeder to sacrifice Geralf's Messenger, Geralf's Messenger comes back so ETB triggered damage -> Pay to use Retribution of the Ancients to remove the counter from Geralf's Messenger -> If you also have Pitiless Plunderer it will create a token, sacrifice it to get back the you spent -> Sacrifice again and repeat.

If you use Hex Parasite you will lose 1 life each time you remove a counter, Blood Artist or Deathgreeter will help mitigate self damage.

Flayer of the Hatebound will do the trick instead of Geralf's Messenger but it´s more expensive.

If you use Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar you can repeat it infinitely removing the counters with either Hex Parasite or Retribution of the Ancients (using Phyrexian Altar) without Pitiless Plunderer but then the deck is not Modern legal.
