Hello friends, so I used to be quite into magic (started during Kamigawa block) however I quit playing during the Return to Ravnica block, last game I played officially was a RtR sealed draft.
I would only play standard, but now I am picking up the cardboard crack again and ready to start my bad habits all over.
Seeing as now modern is the hot go to and after looking into it I'm not much of a fan of the current standard set (dinos and pirates, comeon wotc), i figured id give the modern format a go. I piloted a few decks that I really enjoyed a lot, namely: U/Merfolk, Naya burn, and eldrazi tron. I had the most fun with the merfolk and the burn, primarily the burn. It was insanely fast.
SooOOooOoo... that brings us to now. I am attempting to build my first somewhat competitive modern deck that I will enjoy playing more so than worry about winning competitive. Have a large play group and we have our own FNM sometimes going to an actually FNM.
I like the speed of burn, But black is by far my fav color, and Vexing Devil is my fav card, so i am looking to exploit him in this. With black i have a few options to sac enemies, so i can save the raw burn for enemy player. Also i proxied this deck and the Claim + Vexing Devil
combo is so nasty. But im at the point where i feel like i cannot optimize this on my own and it feels like it could use more. I am trying to keep the mana curve low but am open to making it a little steeper if the suggestion seems nice enough. Like i noticed how damn important nonbasic lands are so an Anathemancer (hope i spelled it right) seems like it could potentially be a good fit. I had 2x Desecration Demon in to act as a finisher but he rarely ever saw the field and i felt like faster more efficient burn spells would be better. well i guess you get the picture... I need help polishing it off. Very open to suggestions and discussions. Trying to stay Dual color to keep consistent.
Budget is a non-factor
**note: i have no sideboard yet wanna focus on maindeck for right now then build sideboard with hate cards for what i might come up against as we go.
