See. .. I'm just having a hard time getting rid of mind rot because of the Master's card draw.

Maybeeeeee Mental Vapors ? One drop more, but hand disruption, discarding could get out of control (in a good way). Shit I dunno. I mean, Mind Rot is 3 drop/ 2 cards; Mental Vapors 4 drop, discard 1, encode on creature and swing, cast a free copy and discard 1, encode again. T5, I believe, could essentially mean the possibility of forcing 4 discards thanks to the one Mental Vapors that was cast on T4?

Ciphering has always confused me. I've never actually used it.

The spell copies created with cipher do not then create ciphers themselves. It would go like this: turn 4 cast Mental Vapors, your opponent discards one card, and you cipher onto your creature. The creature then attacks, triggering cipher and causing opponent to discard one card. That is two cards total the turn it is cast. For each other trn thereafter, any hit by the creature will cause a discard of one. The trick is that the copies don't then cipher. Also I can definitely test your deck a bit. I think I'll throw it against my BG midrange deck, as that seems like a reasonably similar sort of deck. Wouldn't work out well against my BG dredge deck i'm afraid, too big and fairly resilient to discard and removal.

Crud. "You may then cast a copy of the encoded card without paying it's mana cost" I was literally taking as basically cloning Mental Vapors . I suppose that would have made it a rare card instead of uncommon. Thanks for clearing that up.

How would your BG dredge be resistant to discard unless you, yourself have hexproof?

Nevermind, I looked it up. Let's toss that up as a newbIe mistake. ;)

You'd have to be able to survive long enough, however, as I take your cards. Whether they end up in your grave yard our under my control. With that fatty that is Master and his card stealing cohort, Nightveil, I think I'd do better than you think. I urge you yo try your Dredge deck against it.

Hey, really like your deck and thinking about putting a deck together myself around Ashiok.

Whats your thoughts about Siren of the Silent Song ?Maybe as a replacer for Mind Rot ?

+1 from me

I like the card. If I were running more blue it would be something I'd consider. I'd have to see your deck and how everything meshes together. Thanks for the + !

I took out 2x Liliana's Reaver , 2x Devour Flesh , and 3x Bile Blight . Then I added 3x Fate Unraveler , 4x Far / Away , and 3x Doom Blade . My mana base is 3x Temple of Deceit 3x Dimir Guildgate 9x swamp and 8x island.

So far so good. The fate unraveler really punishes them ANY time they draw a card. Far//Away has been an all star. To make them sac its 1CC more than devour flesh (but they gain no life), and for 1U you can either sweep one of their threats back into their hand to buy some time or even return a creature back into your hand to avoid a kill spell. And when you fuse it? fah-gid-a-bowd-it!!!! Sweep away their wimpy dude, then they have to sac a big boy. I've killed plenty of blood barons this way already.

The doom blades are there for more board control until you can steal a nice critter with Ashiok! The deck is still a little inconsistent but getting there!

Far / Away is a great card. The primary reason I like Devour Flesh is to fizzle my opponent's kill spell, or to block and then devour my own creature against a fatty. Doom Blade will remain a side for me. Your deck is a little different. Glad it sOunds like your changes are working for you :)

This is great. I have been working on a similar theme trying to utilize Shrieking Affliction . Here it is: TEST Discard. (still testing as the name suggests). +1

I took out Ashiok for now because I just can't get the temples. So I put another Devour Flesh in and put in some Squelching Leeches that I may not end up keeping in. I have all of the cards for the deck the way it is now, however.

Squelching Leeches isn't a bad card, and with all the Devour Flesh I've got the combination can really change the game around. It could even be used as a ploy to get my opponent's attention making them want to kill it. Good for devotion, too. It's either the Leeches or another kill spell or I add 3x Cremate again.

Thoughts?

I really like this deck - it is similar to one I am using at FNM with good results, getting out of hand.

It uses Lifebane Zombie , Sin Collector and Brain Maggot in tandem with Athreos, God of Passage . Mind Rot rocks!!

+1 from me!

Changed stuff around a little. Added Duress from sb to mb and an Ultimate Price.

Very good. I always find it hard to choose between Ultimate Price and Doom Blade. The meta shifts a little every week so it's hard to say which is best.

I'm curious about how the Master of the Feast plays out - I have a playset but am scared to use him! Please let us know how confident you are in him... does he always live up to his potential?

June 3, 2014 12:55 p.m.

HiddenStrings says... #17

Honestly, he's a friggin' beast. The only fear I have is his destruction, which usually won't happen that early. Unlike Desecration Demon he can't be tapped down, which, imho, I've never really cared for. Yes, a player sacking a creature is cool and all, but I'd rather swing in for major damage, and Master of the Feast does just that, and one turn sooner. So far, I've not regretted having the playset once. In fact, I'd run no less!

I had made more changes before I went to a friend's house by taking out the mb Ultimate Price and added 2x Silence the Believers and the change was very effective. I may have been talked into adding a couple Underworld Connections , I'm just not sure what to take out.

Btw, bouncing back Grey Merchant of Asphodel with Whip of Erebos is pure magic.

Comments purged. I believe I'm nearing the culmination of what this deck will end up being until M15.

Thank you all, for your contribution and 1-ups!

FNM-bound this week.

Don't run the Mana Confluence s. Remember that Nightveil Specter 's mana cost is an either or mana. If you want that little bit of blue, use Temple of Deceit . Cheaper, not as many drawbacks, scry.

June 3, 2014 9:49 p.m.

HiddenStrings says... #22

@Prima, the point behind Mana Confluence is for use in casting cards that are exiled with Nightveil Specter .
