what is the point of Hermit Druid without the other combo pieces? is there another way to win with it or should I swap in another card for it. also without it, would it be a good idea to run some basic lands in order to resist Blood Moon players?

What do you mean by "without the other combo pieces?" Hermit Druid still does what it's always done in this deck.

Mill -> Dread Return Angel of Glory's Rise, which returns Lab Maniac, Hapless Researcher, and Grand Abolisher. Sac Hapless on an empty library to win.

Doesn’t this affect the Druid line? Without Fatestitcher, you’ll only have 2 creatures (HD and Narcomoeba) in play. 1 creature short of payung Dread Return’s flashback cost.

Thrasios only costs 2 mana and the deck has a really high density of cheap creatures, so not having Fatestitcher hasn't been a problem at all, especially considering that I don't really go for super-fast wins anymore.

I'm not seeing the full combo with Angel of Glory's rise, how does the hapless researcher come back?

To clarify, isn't it just a Wizard and not a human for the ETB from angel

@ WisdomComes Hapless Researcher has been errated for a while to include the subtype human. Many creatures from that era have been as multiple subtypes didn't become a thing until much later in MTG's existence.

LabManiac being weak to fewer types of hate, a stronger backup combo, and being able to cut Cabal Therapy.

I was wondering why you play Tainted Pact , it only seems useful if Laboratory Maniac is already in play. I see that you can play a hulk line getting labman and Spellseeker getting pact. But are these the only uses?

Also you refer to labman as a great backup combo, what is then the main combo at this point? All other wincon's seem to have been cut with the last update. But maybe I am missing something?

"Manual" Lab Maniac + Tainted Pact is the backup combo if you don't have access to Flash Hulk. It makes for a good backup because it only adds one slot that can also be useful during games (Tainted Pact) while also being able to win through all the popular types of hate, and more importantly, all the types of hate that hit the Hermit Druid and Flash Hulk lines (Cursed Totem, Cage, RIP).

Would you say this is more consistent than Food Chain Sliver? (Big tournament coming up next month and looking for the most degenerate option available lol)

So no more Angel’s Grace and no more LED? Doesn’t that massively hurt the deck? Are we just running more ways to tutor for the good ol’ flash hulk combo instead?

So, i just updated the list to what you had here, and last tournament I tried to go for a Win, and had LabMan on the table already, someone cast a Swords to plowshares, and I ran the list in my head, and had no way of winning without it, wouldn't it be better to get back to Riftsweeper, in these cases? or LED+Auriok infinite mana, at least, so we'd have two wincons, or instead of LED+auriok; maybe adding Freed from the real, so it would be only one card, and not two...

So, i follow this deck quite a bit because i run a similar breakfast hulk deck (pretty much almost the same but a few differences for my meta and personal play style), and ive always had the problem of drawing into cards i dont want in my hand. Ive been running Careful Study in my deck and it’s been an mvp. Currently wrecking pods at Gen Con.

May i know is there an infinite loop with Postmortem Lunge now that there is only one Memory's Journey and no more timetwister or krosan reclamation?

How do you win other than by lab man? Is there an infinite loop demonstrable that i missed?

There are no infinite loops or alternative wins in the current iteration of this deck. Those were in there when I was running Auriok Salvagers + LED. I ended up going back to Lab Maniac because it lets me cut Cabal Therapy while also having a more compact backup win in Lab Maniac + Tainted Pact that also wins through more types of hate than other backup win conditions. If you're still on Salvagers and spell loops, you could Cabal Therapy yourself, naming Deathrite Shaman (or discard it to Survival of the Fittest), then cast Postmortem Lunge to bring it back with haste, activate it to make everyone else lose 2 life, then destroy it with something like Abrupt Decay before putting everything back into your deck via Twister/Memory's Journey and starting over again.

Why no Azami, Lady of Scrolls ? That way you can just Dread Return the Angel of Glory's Rise , which gets back Azami, Lady of Scrolls , Laboratory Maniac and a few more humans, and just tap Lab Man to draw, and if they respond, tap Azami to draw, and if they respond again, tap another human to respond, and so on, and so on, and so on....

And since Angel brings back Abolisher, they won't be able to respond and this requires no additional mana. The moment you cast Dread Return and it resolves and then the Angel's ability resolves, you just win.
