I never understood the point of Flash of Insight, nor did I include it in my version of the deck. And I’m still skeptical of the Freed from the Real combo. Is this deck really going to tutor for Bloom Tender then try to put a 3 mana aura on it? Am I missing something else this card does?

With these changes this deck is morphing into a similar that I play here https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/lean-breakfast/?cb=1542525618

So with the Labman cut, inclusion of Freed from the Real, and all the other changes, I'm not quite sure what the wincon is anymore...? Is it to just do the Swan Song loop? That seems pretty lackluster. Can someone fill me in on what the heck happened with this latest build?
November 19, 2018 11:54 p.m.
hey AngryChewie
Swan Song isnt lackluster since Assassin's Trophy. together with Cabal Therapy there is no topdeck possible to overcome an army of birds while you have infinite life.
but in the case you comboed out with a Deathrite Shaman that isnt summoning sick you can Freed from the Real onto him to drain everyone else to death.
even though not nessessary looping Timetwister also refills the opponents hand to again discard with cabal therapy to feed deathrite shaman eating chunks of their decks.

Passing the turn after going off could be dangerous against pods with multiple combo decks, even if their in top deck mode. Top deck tutor, draw 7, ad naus, etc could lose the game. I presume you’d have FOW in hand so two opponents would need to top deck, and those odds are low. But why pass the turn and take a chance if you don’t need too.

I can totally get on board and appreciate that Sigi. Lab man takes that extra slot and is a dead draw. I like how you reduced the dead draws by removing the muldratha combo, and cut situational utility like flash of insight and toxic deluge for a combo that can stand on its own and be reanimated (similar to breakfast combo and flash hulk into breakfast). Eternal witness can provide utility outside the combo too although somewhat inefficiently CC. I’ve never been a huge fan of twister in a non storm, non board state deck but it serves several purposes in your build. Thanks for your innovations and contributions to this deck over the years! I know your a busy guy and would love your thoughts on my version of the deck. Thanks Sigi

Hey Sigi, I keep running into the same problem playtesting this list from game to game: it's become a deck with a single point of failure. Lion's Eye Diamond is all important in getting the combo to function once Angel of Glory's Rise gets recurred to start the process of generating infinite mana with Auriok Salvagers to loop spells for the win. Granted I'm playtesting 4 decks at a time in a pod while I'm doing this, and once I noticed it I started actively playing to this point of weakness, but any deck that can cast an Extract or Praetors Grasp or similar effect and remove the LED effectively takes BH out of the game. The combo fizzles at that point and your left with just a board full of dudes and have to pass the turn. Is there something I'm missing here?

Thank you for your kind words. I'm ridiculously busy this week (just handed in a paper in the middle of the night a couple of hours before the deadline, and I've got some kinda statistics midterm thing due on Friday without having done anything for the course yet), but I'll take look when I have time.

Thank you Sigi for all of your work on this deck. Breakfast Hulk, as you know, is my favorite cEDH deck... Godo (don't laugh) is a distant second. I'm excited to see how this deck morphs and changes given the newest additions. Thank you for the hours of entertainment you give us all.

while everyone is trying to cut dead cards, calculate the average mana cost of a deck, count the number of counter/removal/protection i thought i want to look at another strenght about decks.
this is a view only about how much density there is in decks to find quick 2 card combos. the bigger the web between soft tutors in addition to hard tutors and overlapping combopieces the more opportunities will arise on average through all games you play.
but one can visualize this web and count the numbers to see a decks combo opportunity.
call it useless i had a moment free and did this anyway XD
- 1st 3-6-5 -> 8-11
- 2nd 5-2-5 -> 10-7
- 3rd 5-2-5 -> 10-7
- 4th 5-5-5 -> 10-10
- 5th 5-10-5 -> 10-15

Definitely not useless. That's some interesting data. I'm not quite sure how to make use of it yet, but I do like that I have it.
The biggest take away for me, I think, from this, is that while there are only so many tutors available to use as a package in any given deck, there are numerous duplicate combo effects in a wide range of mana costs and each additional redundant combo piece creates a factorial effect in terms of the "density of the combo". Each additional redundant combo piece multiplies the density exponentially. Not only does this make deck dramatically more consistent, it also makes it dramatically more resilient. There is probably a point at which things become "over dense" and it would negatively impact deck performance, but without doing any math I feel like 2 additional redundant pieces is right around the sweet spot while leaving the most amount of slots available for support and interaction.

Does this new version of the deck require Timetwister loops to win? Can it still work if Timetwister is replaced with Krosan Reclamation instead?
Due to budget issues...can't afford timetwister for now. Thanks!

The loops are still the same as always, so they'll still work if you run Krosan Reclamation instead of Timetwister.

Elfric, is the Bomberman /Timetwister combo the same as the one listed in the Timetwister/Memory's Journey Loops section of the wincon?
Can you detail the new combo that uses Freed from the Real?
November 23, 2018 7:08 p.m.
@ Frank_Glasock
As far as I can tell Freed from the Real serves two real purposes. It's an infinite mana combo on Bloom Tender, as it counts as a blue permanent and thus when Bloom Tender is tapped it creates a green and a blue mana (plus whatever other colors among permanents you own) and it can then be untapped for 1 blue mana for a net positive of 1 green mana (plus 1 white and 1 black mana if, say, Tymna is in play). Once you have generated an arbitrarily large amount of mana you can then use the last blue and green from Bloom Tender to cast Thrasios and draw the whole deck with the remaining infinite mana. At which point you should have some zero cmc mana rocks to cast to fix your mana and begin looping for the win.
The second purpose is to allow recursive untapping of Deathrite Shaman in the situation where you already have infinite mana and have drawn the whole deck. In this situation, as long as you can continue to fill the opposing players' graveyards with instants and sorceries Deathrite Shaman kills the table.

Jaymc1130, thanks for the clarification on the Freed from the Real combo.
Do you know if the Bomberman /Timetwister combo is the same as the one listed in the Timetwister/Memory's Journey Loops section of the wincon?

I have another question concerning the Bomberman/Timetwister combo. Does the inclusion of Assassin's Trophy mean that in addition to destroying all their permanents can't you destroy all their lands?
November 24, 2018 1:31 a.m.
So with these new additions and changes, What would be some key Stax pieces and hate you should look out for that would make you unable to win?
November 24, 2018 5:29 a.m.
@ Frank_Glascock
I would assume any Timetwister/Memory's Journey loops haven't changed. That concept is pretty well established: Cast a spell, cast Twister to get it back in the library, draw the deck, cast the spell, cast Memory's Journey to get Twister and the spell back in the library, draw the deck, rinse repeat. This loop won't really change unless the fundamental rules of magic change or cards are errated. Any 2 spells (other than Twister) can be looped with this process at a time so even permanents with ETB triggers or similar can be looped with a card that destroys them.
As far as looping Assassin's Trophy, yes, you can loop the Trophy to legitimately destroy an opponents entire board state leaving them with nothing when they run out of basic lands to fetch.

Hey Sigi, could use some input here. I played about 50 games with this new BH list and like I mentioned earlier it kept running into the same problem. Lion's Eye Diamond being a single point of failure for both primary win lines was resulting in very poor deck performance compared to the previous incarnation if I got bumped onto the Freed From the Real/Bloom Tender plan as it was usually just way to hard and slow to recover after the primary lines fizzled. So I got to work on a brew that would be more resilient but keep a lot of the core concepts that I thought might still be as good or better than your previous version of BH. What I wound up with was this: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/reanimator-hulk-1/ and I was hoping you'd take a look and see if I could gain some insight from the mind of a true wizard. I've only played half a dozen games with it so far, but it feels pretty sweet to play.
Also, I'm dying for new episodes of gameplay from the Lab Maniacs. When? When? When? When? Plz make dis a gud X-mas! =P

Hi may I know what is the use of Postmortem Lunge in the deck? I can see that it enables a hasty Hermit Druid. Are there some other lines I may have missed? Any explanation to how it works would be nice.
Thanks in advance!

@ lynden the interaction with deathrite shaman is explained in the "outdated" wincon section.
