This deck is great, I've had a ton of success with it. However, it doesn't stand a chance against mono red aggro. I have to find a way to get the Kalonian Hydras out faster, other wise I lose on like turn 5 or 6.

@ sweetcoco try Elvish Mystic to ramp into it earlier. You could also consider something like Trading Post , I've been testing with it recently and it proves good against mono red, that's a deck that always gives me problems regardless of what I'm playing though, it's tough.

Kinda new to magic but iv been putting togeather somthing really close to this. Maybe try putting in a couple Solidarity of Heroes doubles the +1 +1 counters on your creature and you can strive 2 on each additional creature.

Sylvan Caryatid might be better against mono red aggro. Most of aggro hitters dont hit for high damage (atleast my rakdos aggro didnt) so throwing that down can really slow their creature damage per turn down. it also helps with mana ramp better than mystic (for when you really need that extra blue mana). Im working on simic and u/w heroic since the next rotation isn't going to ruin them like it's ruining my rakdos aggro, gruul aggro, and mono black aggro (basically will be ruining my entire set of decks :P

two words: Cyclonic Rift . My deck, which is also Simic, ( Evolving Strength ) has 3 of them in there & helps against other build ups of Planeswalkers & small creatures since I have a lot of ramp in my deck. I beat your deck play-testing it because I was able to return all your creatures to your hand on turn 5. Great setup with your deck otherwise! +1 for me.

P.S.: I'm a little jealous of your playset of Breeding Pool & Kalonian Hydra .

@ snotice every time I playtest it, the rift is the only thing that buys anytime, but generally I take it by turn 5, kinda just overwhelm too early. I would almost suggest you adding the 4th Cyclonic Rift just for the further assurance. Syncopate is pretty lackluster there too imo, would be a good spot to fill with the 4th rift and another Kalonian Hydra

yeah, I'm working on that, but not going to drop $9.99 plus tax to get one Kalonian Hydra at my local shop. I do like your deck, nonetheless.

back again. You actually gave me the idea of putting Vorel of the Hull Clade back into my deck. It's worked out real well. I'm aiming for + 195, lol.

Is there a specific reason why Yavimaya Coast isn't in the deck?

August 26, 2014 6:16 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #13

@ Casino647 honestly I just haven't obtained any yet. This is a secondary deck so changes come into it a little slow. They're definitely going in though

Well my question is, why bother putting Kruphix, God of Horizons in the deck when you have nothing to utilize him with? Basically no draw factor to take advantage of his no maximum hand size ability, or any non-tapping activated abilities to put last ability to use, Nylea, God of the Hunt and Thassa's Ire would be mostly needed for such situation based on the colors of the deck. On another note, having a large army is nice and all, but this deck is completely open to damage stops Fog + Riot Control , controls, or more importantly board wiping cards such as AEtherize , Cyclonic Rift , or Whelming Wave . Point I'm trying to come across, this is all creatures with no abilities that cause additional things beside make the army stronger. There isn't draw, life gain, specific creature summoning from deck Chord of Calling , just all out army. True that Kalonian Hydra is a devastator on his own if you get him out early enough, but it takes one kill/control spell as soon as he comes out when you're either tapped out from rushing him turns three to five, not having the chance to give him hexproof. After all that, I would suggest Fathom Mage or Zameck Guildmage to give yourself draw throughout the entire time they're on the field. Kiora's Follower is in the same boat as Kruphix for me in this deck setup, only use I see for him is untapping Gyre Sage for more creature drops. Another thing you can put in here is Renegade Krasis or Elusive Krasis if you still plan on being completely about creatures, that way everyone doesn't just get one +1/+1 counter onto them when they evolve, everyone globally gets additional, and the unblockable is for obvious reason so it can't be killed with deathtouch or chump blocked. Nylea, God of the Hunt is a necessity for all creature focus seeing as she gives trample to your other creatures to prevent more chump blocks.

I like the deck a lot, but I disagree on land. Yavimaya Coast is garbage compared to, say, Simic Guildgate. I'd also get rid of Breeding Pool and replace it with Hinterland Harbor, maybe get some Simic Growth Chamber in there. However, I've got to thank you for showing me Temple of Mystery. I had no idea it existed.

My comment is exclusively directed to Archbagel. First of all, there's a reason this deck has over 200 upvotes. Why? It's fucking amazing and brilliant and cheers to the creator. Second, no offense bro, but your decks haven't gotten much attention on tappedout, so I would work on your own before delivering such harsh criticism. Like, you basically said his deck sucked. Get fucked.

you could use a Fathom Mage i personally use a fun combo with Sage of Hours but my evolve deck isn't as fancy as this one. :D

Quick question, in your example of a turn 5 44 damage win, how does Cloudfin Raptor end up as a 12/13?

Running it through in my head it gets:

T2: Gyre Sage gives it +1/+1

T3: Vorel of the Hull Clade gives it +1/+1 (now a 2/3)

T4: Kalonian Hydra gives it +1/+1 (now a 3/4)

..so it's a 3/4, a far cry off 12/13 and I just can't get how you ended up with that number?

OJLMethos Yes Cloudfin gets the 1/1 counters from other creatures due to evolve but bro, did you not read the text on Kalonian and Vorel? Double counters?

Tru dat

OJLMethos says... #23

Oh snap, I skim read hydra and thought it just doubled it's own counters... he was epic in my mind before and now he's just insane.

Another question though, been playing this deck a bit and if you get hydra on the board (and he is not removed immediately) you win. Outside of that I struggle to see any other win-cons shine through.

I have had a game or two where 2x biomancer's made my weenies like 8/8 beat downs which was fun, but with only two biomancer's in there that's rare.

I'm obviously missing a trick, what other win-con's / mini combo's am I missing?

Holy crap this deck is amazing... plus fucking one! I literally hate myself for not knowing about this beauty when it was still standard legal... :P anyway great job

Hey mpeach1 I've been a big fan of the deck for a while, and I was wondering, why not "modern-ize it". I would just kinda like to see a version that could work well in modern.
