Hey there! Omnath was my first real EDH deck so I have an affinity for this guy. Like what you've done with him but I have to ask, why no Doubling Cube?

Also in case you've never had the 'privelege' of playing against Linvala, Keeper of Silence let me explain how bad you will get gimped. A guy in my group wouldn't stop running her as general and I was too stubborn to change generals so I came up with this: Green Goo of Death.

Also I am probably just missing the combo but how do you play out your deck so soon? I've never heard of that in mono green.

Lol yeah Linvala, Keeper of Silence would destroy me if she resolved before I could combo off. I have fortunately never encountered a Linvala deck.

With regards to Doubling Cube I tested it for a while in a much earlier version of the deck. At that point in time it was only useful if I had a good deal of mana already. It seemed a bit too much win more at the time so I opted for more elves and card draw. Ill give it another go as the deck has evolved considerably since then.

As for the combos they are slightly different each game. To go infinite mana I need at least one mana dork capable of producing at least 4 mana in a single tap for Umbral Mantle or 5 to 7 mana for Temur Sabertooth plus haste to bounce the mana dork back and forth from my hand. The sabertooth is easy to tutor for once the deck gets rolling and can produce infinite card draw and mana by bouncing and replaying Regal Force and Elvish Visionary indefinitely. Once I get to about 50 mana with omnath on the board a single Life's Legacy will do the trick.

This deck has 5 creatures that are capable of going infinite. Once I get omnath up to 10 to 15 mana. I will either tutor for and play Regal Force with Fierce Empath for about 7 cards, sac omnath to draw cards, or draw cards equal to his power. This leaves me with some floating mana and a full hand. Almost always I will draw into a tutor, another card draw spell, and/or an untap effect like Wirewood Symbiote. These cards will allow me to re-use the now more powerful mana dork for more mana and draw again. By the second draw I will almost always get a haste enabler that will allow me to use all the new mana dorks I just flooded the board with and I will have the means by then to draw my deck. Since there are so many tutors and so much redundancy in the deck the pieces tend to come together by turn 5 or 6 as long as you know what cards to go for. The strength of this deck is that it can go from a relatively modest board state that noone really cares about to killing the whole board in a single turn. Since I don't make omnath that big he never scares the board into action until I've started chaining card draws and by then its usually too late. Elves are broken beyond belief. Essentially this is a somewhat slower version of the legacy combo elves deck that wins on turn 3 or 4 consistently.

alluren + Cloudstone Curio is also a helpful, "win more" combo. I Retired my Omnath deck after awhile, maybe you wanna steal Scotland the Brave (R), if you're interested, there might be stuff there you like. If not, this is okay.

Wow, Aluren...my bad, disregard the fact that that link puts you in a deck.

Aluren would fit nicely in this deck. I'll definitely give it a shot. Thank you Nickosis and bringerofterror for your interest and suggestions.

Hey boss, here is an infinite combo, and why I like Aluren and Cloudstone Curio. Have those 2 out, throw down Elvish Harbinger put elf on top, drop Elvish Visionary, draw it. Also, play the Fierce Empath, have mana to play big nasty, return Fierce Empath, play Empath for free, repeat until bored.

Lilbrudder says... #7

Nickosis that is a nasty combo and I can't wait to uss it. However, I think I would play Aluren even outside the combo since it allows me to play 28 creatures from my 99 for free at instant speed and replay Omnath on my opponents turn for just the repeater tax. What a great suggestion!

It is a very underrated card, no likes tempest. But I think you can't cast Commanders with it, because it has to be cast from hand, unless you returned him to hand...

Lilbrudder says... #9

I think because it doesn't say from your hand you can cast it from the command zone. You just have to pay its commander tax which is an additional cost.

Well, just to be sure, check the rules. But yeah, that's the kind of stuff I did in mine. Dirty card with Curio. Like if you have Lys Alana Huntmaster in play and you keep bouncing a Yeva's Forcemage and an Elvish Visionary you get infiny draw/buff/elf tokens. That's the stuff of dreams....

thats correct on aluren. omnath would be 0 + tax.

Mandalorian thank you for your suggestion. I have used Vernal Bloom at times in this deck and it is good. However, I currently run a low land count and my only land based acceleration is elf based. I replaced bloom with more elfs to maximize the effect of Regal Force and cards like Elvish Archdruid. If I do add a mana doubler at this point it would probably be Mana Reflection.

Hello, wagnerr2. I have looked a bit at your deck and I have found a couple things for your consideration.

Linvala, Keeper of Silence and Torpor Orb shut down your deck. I personally run Linvala, and a lot of people I know run T-Orb. Also, I fear your deck might be subject to board wipes (like a lot of them are) and the removal you offer is only target removal. That being said, I don't know of to many mono green board wipes. You could always try running Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger. He punishes a lot of people.

May I ask how your deck does against others? What do you feel it has the most trouble with?

I generally have played a much weaker version of this deck in a somewhat casual meta. It usually smashed face but I doubt its ability to consistently hang in a more competitive group. It does as good as most green decks can against board wipes with cards like Grave Sifter and bounce cards like Temur Sabertooth. Linvala and orb will always be a problem for this deck but I have rarely encountered them. If I did I would probably add cards like Song of the Dryads, Beast Within or Krosan Grip. If I go more land based ramp instead of my creatures it will destroy the combos so thats a no go. One board wipe that green has that would set back my opponents way more than me would be Wave of Vitriol. I could also maybe try out The Great Aurora but thats kind of terrible

In a more casual setting, I find The Great Aurora to be a great card. It really messes things up for everyone. It is a great green chaos EDH card. I think the outcome is hilarious. The place I frequent has a rule that after about an hour of playing per game that people lose half their life during their upkeep until they lose (their is an enchantment that represents this, but I can't remember what it is). Throwing The Great Aurora out the moments leading up to this enchantment really messes people up. Although, you are correct. In a more competitive setting it is not a great card. Otherwise, I'm not really sure what else to say. Your deck is looking really solid and I would hate to go up against it. I'm not the best with colors outside of U/B as those are mainly what I play. This is a great deck. Keep up the good work!

Probably a dumb question, but what is the reasoning behind the name? Good deck though, +1.

Thank you TheTindell179! The name of my deck is a quote from one of my favorite movies Pulp Fiction. The Gimp is a sex slave of a guy named Zed. Since I bring Omnath out only for the purposes of abusing him for my own benefit, he is essentially the gimp of my elves. Omnath also looks somewhat similar to the gimp. Needless to say I have a crass sense of humor and my cultural references are a bit dated (1994). Pulp Fiction is probably Quentin Tarantino's best movie and well worth seeing. Thanks again for the +1 :-)

You might find that you will prefer Praetor's Counsel over Grave Sifter for the max handsize + doesn't help your opponent.

Also: for a big creature, you will want to (at the very least) test out Void Winnower (psst. drop kozilek). Restricting your opponent's access to boardwipes, linvala, 50% of combo pieces is super destructive!

miracleHat: I like your name/design alot. I am not a fan of Praetor's Council. I usually spend an entire turn casting it when a more focused effect will allow me to win the game that turn. Grave Sifter is cheaper. Sifter is also a creature, which means I have many more ways of getting it into play when I need it. Honestly I am happy to give creatures back to my opponents in most circumstances. It is a political tool that gets a pass on alot counterspells and it usually helps me WAY more than my opponents.

I like Void Winnower alot and I haven't been entirely happy with kozilek to be honest. Usually by turn 4 or 5 my hand is completely full of lands, which limits his draw power and I may replace him with Scroll Rack and add Void Winnower for extra control. I have neglected this deck for a while and I am making alot of changes to see if I can shave a half a turn off my win condition. Having an answer to shut down strategies will help alot. Thank you for the great suggestion
