WARNING: This deck is extremely complicated, and only play it if you are crazy. Doomsday (especially DDFT) are regarded as some of the hardest in magic.
This deck is a fast, consistent, yet powerful deck that utilizes Doomsday to win. There are three parts of each game, preparing the bomb (before playing Doomsday), choosing your cards (no fun name for that :( ), and the Apocalypse (After playing Doomsday). Usually each happens on a different turn (No. 2 doesnt).
Reading the Decklist Show
Chrome Mox. Simple land. I usually pitch any redundancies, or cards I know I wont use. Practice to know what to imprint.
Darkslick Shores
. Nice dual land.
Lotus Petal. One use land, but free of charge (compared to Chrome Mox).
Underground River. Pain land. If you want to put more money into this deck for lands, the only thing you really should do is replace this with the original dual so you dont take the damage. Note that
Darkslick Shores
will practically never come in tapped and there's no point adding fetch and shock lands, because they are necessary and deal too much damage to you.
Doomsday Show
Doomsday. Doomsday is the soul of this deck. Usually you want to ramp into it ASAP. More about the five cards later.
Personal Tutor. Search for Doomsday. If you have unnecessary extras, pitch it to Chrome Mox or search for Gitaxian Probe if you feel the need.
Emergency Show
Captured Sunlight
. This card has two uses. If you already have most of the cards you need in the Apocalypse phase, you can stick it in and make it go straight into
Laboratory Maniac. Take note that youre never going to hard cast this.
Heroes Remembered
. NOTE-In sideboard. Another way to gain tons of life, though dont know if I will ever use this or not so tell me if I should cut it or not.
Misdirection. The only Mainboard counter card that I have and probably going to protect
Doomsday. Please dont tell me to replace it with
Force of Will, because I know, but Im trying to actually buy this deck. Most of the sideboard has more Counterspells/
Duress. Also there isnt too much of a need to replace
Duress because Im just looking for
Force of Will and
Misdirection.
Apocalypse Cards Show
Laboratory Maniac. Yup. Im running him. Cast him using Shelldock to save you the one blue mana. Lol.
Shelldock Isle
. Hideaway for Laboratory Maniac. This card isnt in the land section because you dont use it as land! Remember Doomsday exiles your library so youll have less than 20 cards.
Twiddle
. Hate that you have to wait for
Shelldock Isle
to untap? Well no more, introducing
Twiddle
!
Gitaxian Probe
+
Street Wraith
. (Im putting them as one because they do the exact same thing). Free draw for two life. IMPORTANT NOTE: Most decks use them to fill up space, in this deck DONT immediately cast them. They can give you your
Doomsday after searching for it with
Personal Tutor or they can help give you your cards tutored by
Doomsday.
These draw spells will probably only be used during the Apocalypse phase to give you your Doomsday cards.
Brainstorm. Draw three then put back two cantrips or something like that.
Careful Study. While only drawing two, it is nice because I dont put anything back. Discard unnecessary cards (duh). Please dont yell at me Ponder is better, because it really isnt in this case. Drawing two then dropping two is so much better than draw one and mix the top three cards to your liking because 1. you only get one card and 2. I only use this during a part where I know what the cards are and theyre in the right order!
Cabal Ritual
. Because 4xDark Ritual sometimes isnt enough.
How to play this deck Show
This deck has three distinctive parts of it (although No. 2 arguably you dont play/do anything).
1. Preparing the Bomb Show
2. Choosing your cards Show
This phase is the easiest and the hardest phase. Its easy because you actually dont have to worry about your opponent at all, just sit back and relax... but it is very hard to figure out the optimal arrangement of cards for your library. This is what makes this deck so hard to play. This next part is the basic foundation of your new library.
The bottom card of your library is Laboratory Maniac, Ive never had anything else down there.
On top sits the
Shelldock Isle
+
Twiddle
set, used to search and play Laboratory Maniac with ease.
Asides from those three cards, other important ones include Brainstorm, Careful Study, your cantrips, Lotus Petal, and also if need be, the emergency cards.
It is pretty hard to explain this, practice is key and finding your own little tricks is good too, like you can replace everything except from Laboratory Maniac to cantrips if you have extra life and mana, or using
Captured Sunlight
to fill in space.
3. The Apocalypse Show
This phase I cant really tell you what to do, because you should have worked that out during phase 2. Other than that try not to panic if you messed something up, figure away around it, although you only have five cards in your library, so yeah...
Strengths and Weaknesses Show
Strengths Show
This deck does a very good job at getting out its combo quickly and efficiently. This deck does everything it can to maximize efficiency whether it be mana or making use of useless cards. It is very flexible in that it has a variety of cards to help you in the Apocalypse phase if something goes wrong. It is very consistent and almost always can win on turn two.
Weaknesses Show
As you can expect, like most combo decks it is weak against control decks. That is why the majority of the sideboard is control esc cards. The only weakness that you dont really see when looking at the deck, is you lose a LOT of health. Most games you can end up around 2-5 health. For one doomsday wipes out half your health right on the spot. Add the life lost life paying cantrips and you go down a lot. This is why I dont want fetch and shock, youll probably die by the extra 2-3 damage. Im thinking of adding
Shadowfeed
for this reason.
If you made it this far, congratulations :D and I hope you like my crazy high-powered combo deck. If you think it deserves it, a +1 would be awesome. Also suggestions are very helpful!
