Pretty awesome list. :P The title got me here, trying to comprehend your desirable hands kept me here longer. +1

Minelia5 I have to confess something to you: I made the decision to let him rest from now. He did a great job here, but he deserve to rest now, and will be replaced by his pupils, the Monastery Mentors...
6tennis: then I might not loose time playtesting it here. I'm kinda playing one spell per turn, so it won't grow as fast as I first expected it to. Thanks!
Ryotenchi, don't lie to me, you came here because you knew I would give you a free kitten. (Throw dah kitteh at Ryo)
By the way, I'm removing the Japanese characters from the name of the deck. That looked damn great, but it appears that it causes notifications problems.

How did you get all the text to be blue and italicized?
March 27, 2015 12:03 p.m.
Intangible Virtue is not worth running. Sure it pumps a few tokens that you'll eventually get out, but its also taking spots that could be more control or really anything that isn't so passive. Your tokens are a win-con already without having to pump them. They don't get much scarier after being pumped, you'd be better off with more Snapcaster Mages or Monastery Mentors. But really you only have 5 counterspells. I'd consider adding a 4th Remand and possibly Mana Leak or Cryptic Command. Also, Liliana of the Veil works wonders. She wins games all by herself. I'd say 2x of her is a minimum in this type of deck.

On your sideboard, you have 2 copies of Disenchant? Is that modern legal?
April 16, 2015 5:09 p.m.

Disenchant is legal in Modern, it was last printed in Masques.
I have played a deck based on this one quite heavily at the FNM level, and I find that 1-2 Virtue is necessary to have a good Junk matchup. It breaks Lingering Souls jams like nobody's business, and speeds up the clock significantly against any opponent. If you are concerned about having too many cards that need support to be good, I would start with the less-powerful Swords.

hubatish it is the ancestral technique of not closing the color, italic and bold brackets in the description... ;)
TheAlexGnan sad thing, it is almost over! But you can find the results on T/O facebook group. :)
Saljen trust me, you're always happy to draw an Intangible Virtue. Unless all your token producers are out of business of course, but that does not happen often. Cryptic Command is a bit too heavy in blue mana for me, but I'll try to consider Liliana of the Veil and Mana Leak.
Thank you all for supporting this deck! :D

Heyo
I've more or less copied this deck and im gonna try it out for the first time tomorrow at my local gamestores FNM. Its pretty competetive, so i dont expect to much :P
Have you considered getting Academy Ruins?

Asetor no, but it's mainly because nobody destroy my swords. But I'm eating a lot of Stony Silence instead... X)
Wow, that sounds nice! I hope it will perform nicely, because it isn't really budget. Personally, in T/O modern League I'm yet at 2 victories (UW control, Mardu tokens) and one loss (Loam, duh :<). On untap, I'm at something like 70-80% wins. If you want some coaching on how to play the deck as its best potential, just ask me! :D

So the playtesting has been done at FNM.
Let me start of with saying even thoug im quite familiar with magic, im quite new to the whole competetive league. My deck is a bit different from yours, running some of the cards you ruled out, and i skipped some of the expensive cards like fetchlands, and thoughtsieze.
I got stomped by affinity. (0-2) Zoo raped me aswell (0-2) Did a draw with splinter twin, but a better player piloting this deck would've won. (1-1) RWU control slapped me aswell (0-2) Won against RBW token (2-0) Drawed against a cookie deck, but should've won (time ran out)
The deck feels a bit slow, i think i need my path to exile, more than 1 Spell Snare, and some Thoughtseize to get som 1 mana control, so i can play some cards and still disrupt my opponent.
I didnt really see Monastery Mentor pulling his weight, but Bitterblossom did very well.
Loved playing Telepathy, so strong.
had a couple of Supreme Verdict that did really good against the token deck.
Vault of the Archangel love it!
i was only running 20 lands in the deck, it would seem that i a couple more. Lost one round to affinity being stuck on 3 lands, with a Supreme Verdict on my hand.
Most important of all, the deck was really fun to play with!

Thank you! But yes, you're confirming the conclusion I had with my own playtesting: I'm too far from the control shell, and too far from the aggro one. More counterspells are going to enter the list, but Monastery Mentor is far too powerful to be removed. If he has time to create two tokens, then the game is almost over! I used to run Bitterblossom, but the life loss was real. Against other token deck and aggro ones, I do prefer Timely Reinforcements, 'cuz lifegain and tokens. I do not really like to wrath myself... :<
At least someone who agree with me on Telepathy! Yes! :D

Sword of War and Peace is a one-shot kill with Mirran Crusader. Also, it protects your beast of every non black removal since the blue ones are clearly underused. Light and Shadow is more situational in my opinion, but yeah Fire and Ice reigns supreme and is the second best equipement ever printed right after Umezawa's Jitte. About Sword of Feast and Famine, it's more a stupid interaction with manlands. Especially with Creeping Tar Pit. ;)
I agree on Peek and Telepathy being redundant. I'll trade the remaining Peek for some Serum Visions. Thanks for the support! Also, wasn't I supposed to give you some feedback about one of your decks? x)

Found this post on the esper control side of things Esper control on mtg salvation
What i get from this is that its more important to focus pumping your own hand up with draw spells, and controlling your draws with scrying, rather than using spells like Thoughtseize, Duress, Despise and Inquisition of Kozilek
I personally think cards like Serum Visions, Spreading Seas would do great and maybe a Condescend
Scrying seems so powerful, and being able to deny some of your opponents dual colored lands whilst drawing a card seems quite nice aswell.
powering up you own draws instead of diminishing both your opponents and your own hand with the 1 mana discard cards above, would compliment your Sword of War and Peace.

I do believe that hand disruption is too damn powerful not to use. Sure, your opponent will take less damage from this sword, but at least he won't have the cards he need to destroy it. SoWP is also the best protection card against burn, and pretty useful against control since they have plenty of ways to draw a complete hand again (while protecting my creature from those nasty Path to Exile). I run Spreading Seas in my U/R deck (which is currently the best I've ever brewed) and I agree on the fact that it is great... If you've got another way to lock your opponent harder after this one (exemple: Blood Moon, bounce back effects...). So I don't think it's going to make an appearance here.
Condescend is a nice spell, but I don't run enough lands to use it at its best capacities. It's a powerhouse in U-tron, tho.
I just switched Serum Visions to Esper Charm, and about scry I might consider one or two scrylands but I'm not sure I'm going to play more scry spells (even if, I agree with you, Scry is an underated ability).
Thanks for the support man! :D

Azorius Charm and Cryptic Command? Batterskull would be nice, too.
April 25, 2015 6:53 p.m.
elpokitolama says... #20
Cryptic relies too heavily on blue mana for me to play it. Charm isn't doing a lit of interesting things for me, and Batterskull is in the list half of the time... I removed it to try the giant. :)
Aaah... If only they could unban Misty... At least modern would have a tier 1 control deck that is not twin...
April 25, 2015 7:39 p.m.
WUB similar to this on MTGGOLDFISH's modern metagame!
April 28, 2015 5:34 p.m.

Not really similar because no blades, but to say, it ressemble very much to a list that won a God Series some mounths ago, which I used to rework completly the deck! So yeah, it's kinda normal that it is similar... x')
Almost 3% of the meta now tho? Hell yeah! :D
