Brion Stoutarm Extreme Budget

Commander / EDH Budget RW (Boros)

whoniversereview

Budget Goal: Brion Stoutarm for <$20.
How to play the deck: This is for casual EDH, as "Spike" players will likely play some crazy shutdown combo or massive removal. One thing to watch out for, though, is being hated off the table with this deck. If there's one thing that I've learned that is universal regarding MtG, is that players hate having you steal and sacrifice their stuff even more than if you were to simply Doom Blade it. That's how you play this deck. You have creatures, they have creatures. You use your commander, Brion Stoutarm to sacrifice creatures. You also have tons of things that let you "borrow" their creatures. How convenient! You can now use their creatures as your sacrifice targets, flinging the carcass of that pesky Jhoira of the Ghitu in their face. You also have creatures of your own that you can sac, which is needed when you are playing against somebody playing minimal creatures or somebody with Asceticism out.
If for whatever reason you lose control of Brion or you don't have the mana to re-cast him, there are several other things you can do with their creatures:
-- Play Jinxed Ring and sacrifice one of their creatures in order to offer them the gift of the ring.
-- Take their creature to the Carnage Altar or the Culling Dais in order to get something more in your hand.

This deck also features the Sunforger package. You have several specific spells that you can tutor up with the Sunforger should the need arise:
Blind with Anger , Temporary Insanity , and Grab the Reins let you steal one of their creatures.
Comeuppance lets you throw that all-out attack back in their face.
Condemn and Oblation let you get rid of their huge beater.
Wing Shards allows you to get rid of all of their huge beaters.
Faith's Reward is perfect right after you sac a bunch of your own dudes or after a board wipe (if you're able to salvage the creature that Sunforger is on).
Fling is Brion without needing Brion.
Safe Passage is your Fog.
Don't be afraid to use these cards, either. Use them when they're in your hand, use them with the Sunforger. You have cards like Vessel of Endless Rest , Epitaph Golem, and Jotun Grunt to throw Sunforger targets and your creatures back where they belong -- your library.
