That's what I meant to say. I'm actually not big on the Traumatize win, but when in Rome...

casual_competitive thanks for the upvote!
Unsure why Mesmeric Orb didn't make the cut. It is, after all, one of my favorite mill cards to use. I may remove the Thrumming Stone mechanic and focus more on the static mill and counterspells. This will give me room for a few more wanted considerations:
Trophy Mage- for tutoring Isochron Scepter or Mesmeric Orb.
And perhaps a couple Jaces I have sitting in my collection unused.
Look for an update soon, and play hard, friends.

Grindstone + Painter's Servant inf mill, going infinite is lame but this combo kinda cool.

I'm aware of that combo, and I agree: it's kinda lame.
I've built this to be a bit more interactive and grindy. A real frustrator, even if it doesn't win consistently; I want it to be more fun.

who plays magic for fun anymore. gotta get that turn 3 infinite combo.

if the inf combo is cool then i accept it, i just dont like clone decks. at my store when someone brings in a deck that wins fast everyone copies it. like everyone at one point had the same Laboratory Maniac deck, that lasted for 3 months.

Lame. I play really fast homebrews, which do well at local modern constructed, but I would never dream of aging at a larger regional level. There's something to be said about wrecking a few $800 meta decks though with a silly $50 brew that is more priceless than winning a competition.

I would suggest Crook of Condemnation as a way to prevent graveyard shufflers like the Eldrazi Titans

GreatGoofini- That's a nice card I wasn't aware of. Cheap, Tutorable... I don't seem to have one in my collection, though. Gonna have to check around my local meta and see if anyone has a spare. It'll probably go in place of Trickbind, as that has the same purpose, but takes up real estate until I need to use it.
Thanks alot!

Thartanos- it's got its uses, and wouldn't be a bad sideboard card and alternate win for this deck, but I don't have much need to be milling myself, and will always mill my opponents faster anyway. Thanks for the upvote!!

What are your thoughts on Mesmeric Orb, Rings of Brighthearth, or Illusionist's Bracers?
September 22, 2020 11:55 p.m.
TheSurgeon says... #18
Lambofan217- Rings of Brighthearth and Illusionist's Bracers while cheaper, don't have the versatility of Engine.
The "copy ability" effects are only (practically speaking) applied to the Petitioners activated ability. There's little else in the deck they can target to an effective manner; whereas Lithoform Engine can copy all sorts of things and only take up one card slot.
Thanks for the input! If you like the deck, just take a sec to tap that card at the bottom of the description, and play hard!

waff1ez- Thanks for looking out for me, but I don't have trophy Mage listed, but I do see that it is in the description. Typo!! Thanks again!

I like the direct structure "I'll protect myself until you run out of cards". What is your practical experience of drawing cards? You have relatively many draw-dependent triggers, but rather few cards to draw. In any case, I've seen a few cards like Profane Memento, Archive Trap, Thought Scour, Visions of Beyond and Drownyard Temple in your deck that are destined for my dimir-mill deck. I would be delighted if you would leave a comment.

sedox06- Thanks for your comment and upvote! Drawing has never been too much of a hangup for this deck. The mana you don't use for turn can be used for Petitioner's mill ability. Another card that floats in and out of this build is Folio of Fancies, Allowing draw (albeit expensive) at instant speed. Great for responding to a player's end of turn declaration, just before your turn; which I like enough to put in here, but not enough to commit to, in a final build. It may see a return in a future update.
I'll head over to your deck when I get a minute to look at it with a bit more scrutiny.

Mill is fun. Mill was one of my first loves (and still is!) for any sort of MTG deck. However, I see some options to further Traumatize your opponents:
- Fractured Sanity is fun for all opponents. Or more fun for you. Brain Freeze is another fun instant mill that I highly recommend.
- A big concern I have seeing this is that people use graveyards as much as other resources, so being prepared for that may help you out in the long run. You mention graveyard hate is meta-dependent... but, in my experience, graveyard shenanigans are everywhere. My recommendations are Grafdigger's Cage, Tale's End, Stifle, Trickbind, Time Stop, and Discontinuity as stops to things like, for example, Eldrazi graveyard triggers.
- If you want a classic monocolor strategy and if you have enough of them, it's not uncommon to replace all the basics with snow-covered basics and use Extraplanar Lens as an acceleration engine. For you, I think that may not be a bad idea.
- Other fun toys that synergize with one or more of your toys: Windfall, Memory Jar, Isochron Scepter, Forbid, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip, Commandeer, Sunder, Teferi's Puzzle Box...

DeinoStinkus- first, thanks for the upvote!
I don't have a Fleet Swallower. And you're right, it is a bit slow, and expensive.
I'm going to disagree with Teferi's Tutelage, though. I play a lot of multi-player commander, and Psychic Corrosion hits ALL opponents for the same cost. I find that the global mill is far more valuable than the ETB cantrip for the meta.
Mystical tutor is a nice card, but if I'm going to use it for Traumatize I could use a more budget version: Trapmaker's Snare. It's not as versatile, but it doesn't cost $15 either.
I've actually thought about putting in Fabricate and Altar of the Brood, but where to put them?
Suggestions and any other input are welcome.
Thanks!!
