I've considered Disdainful Stroke in the sideboard. I can't think of a time where I've sided in Into the Void or AEtherspouts in real life simply because the CMC is too high. I might take out the Into the Void for Disdainful Stroke. That makes the sideboard very counter heavy, but each counter fits a different deck.

I typically side in Negate and my two Stubborn Denial for control. I think a Briber's Purse and a Void Snare could come out for two Disdainful Stroke, putting me at 8 counters after siding.

The only thing I struggle with in including Icy Blast is lack of mana to use it effectively. I have been considering Singing Bell Strike in the sideboard, potentially replacing the extra Briber's Purse and the AEtherspouts in the sideboard.

Thanks, RisingRogue.

Bell strike is great, especially vs Butcher.

I've been playing online today; 3-0.

Disdain was great to stop an End Hostilities. I took out Void Snares for 4 Distain. Also works against the Vault.

I have yet to play against Jeskai or Mardu.

I know what you're saying about Quickling and Vaporkin, yet there just isn't a suitable substitute.

Quicklings one of my faves. Play at end of opponents turn. Acts as a blocker, negating damage once. If two, one in hand, an impenetrable wall.

I love the deck man.

I agree on Quickling; it was one of the reasons I built this deck, actually, but it took me a while to get used to a playset. It works well, though, as a second Negate to removal or to replace Triton Shorestalker after an attack.

I'm glad to hear of your success with it as well! Jeskai is probably my hardest match with Mardu close behind it. Let me know how it goes for you as you continue playing. Also, out of curiosity, what does your sideboard look like for it, RisingRogue?

So far, as it is in development:

  • Bell Strike x 4

  • Disdain x 4

  • Negate x 1

Void has been a good replacement vs control.

Yeah, Void Snare is what I usually end up taking out verses control as well. I think I'll be adding the two Disdainful Stroke and Singing Bell Strike.

OK, I'm 7-1 on Cockatrice.

The absolute best matchups are vs Heroic. Very exciting games. My loss went to a Mono Red. Red always exploits your mishaps. I was just one step being too many.

Still no Jeskai or Mardu. They will come.

Shorestalker always is a key attacker. Slap a Blade on him and he's definitely a problem.

I'll tell you of one awesome move I did.

I got an Ensouled Blade and two Shorestalkers in play. Opponent ended turn, after playing some chump blockers. Games real close to being done. So what do I do?

I pay 3 and slap the ensouled Blade on Stalker and sneak in for 4 damage to win the game! It was pretty fun.

I think I am going to drop 1 Quickling for one more Stalker, which drops one to 3 and the other up to 4.

I'm using Taigams Scheming instead of Military. Its working well, yet is hit or miss. It got me a key Ensoul to win a game.

Current sideboard is:

  • Disdainful Stroke x 4

  • Singing Bell Strike x 4 (won several games with this)

  • Icy Blast x 3

  • Triton Tactics x 4

Still under testing but working better.

Another good side against burn or direct damage is Hour of Need. Or for race matches.

Yes, so far the cards I want to add to my sideboard are two of each Singing Bell Strike and Disdainful Stroke. I'm not thoroughly convinced on Icy Blast as a card that is reasonable given my low mana count. Triton Tactics is interesting and could be a good swap for Crypsis; I am considering it. Hour of Need is awesome, and it was another card I liked a lot when looking at mono-U.

I like this deck a lot. Question: if you had 4 Hypnotic Sirens, would you put all 4 in and run no Triton Shorestalkers? Also, I was curious if you'd had any mana issues since you went down to just 19.

I would not. I kept Hypnotic Siren as a one-of simply for the off-chance of getting enough mana to steal a creature. I haven't run into many problems with it, no. I also haven't updated this in a while, so I will be adding Reality Shift to the mainboard soon.

Hey man, love the deck. I was running an extremely similar list and have a few suggestions.

Bident of Thassa is a must-have in my experience. Being able to make a control player run their Prophet of Kruphix directly into your Illusory Angel is priceless, plus it keeps you gassed up and can wear an Ensoul Artifact to get in on the beats. I know it isn't strictly budget, but Master of Waves really is a force in this deck, you generally net a tonne of elementals and it pumps your Vaporkins to 3/2.

On the same line, Hall of Triumph provides a decent boost and is a viable ensoul target. Finally, Swan Song is a counterspell that costs one mana. I know, they get a duck to beat you with/murder your Vaporkins with, but having the option to save a board worth of your guys from a End Hostilities off of an innocuous untapped island is nice. Best of luck with the deck.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot a few things.

Using the Polluted Deltas to try and thin your deck is nearly pointless; the life loss isn't worth the removing one card. Quickling really is kind of a crappy card, having to bounce a creature really isn't what you want to be doing in a tempo/aggro deck.

Treasure Cruise is really good in a deck where you are casting bounce spells like Void Snare and have creatures that die easily and often, and is super synergistic with another card I want to recommend, Chasm Skulker. If you can get your Bident of Thassa/Military Intelligence engine started quickly he can get really out of hand, and gives you resilience to mass removal, like Anger of the Gods

cerealkyra It sounds to me like you are playing more of a MUD deck, which is perfectly viable but is not too similar to my deck in actuality. Hall of Triumph is something I've been playtesting recently. I didn't include Bident of Thassa because I have capped my curve at 3. Quickling has actually played great for me as an extra counterspells to removal. The deck usually runs so fast that if I keep them from killing something it hurts them a lot. I can also then block and take no damage. Polluted Delta provides a free shuffle and takes two lands out of the library to prevent flooding, and the lifegain is marginal. Pre-FRF, this deck has performed well for me with these things in mind.

However, moving out of FRF, you're very right; MUD is going to be much better. I do not want to invest in rebuilding a new mono-U deck because I like to toy with different deck styles and learn new strategies. Thank you for the comment, though.

Quickling is honestly one of the best cards in this deck. I run a similar deck and have kicked the crap out of $250 decks, owing a lot of that to Quickling messing up their removal and making them lose card advantage. It's not a card you want in your opening hand if it's the only creature you draw, but it's awesome in nearly any other circumstance. It also combos excellently with Master of Waves and Hall of Triumph, if you ever decided to run those. I can't take a person seriously if they say Quickling is a bad card in this deck.

Hour of Need is a card I'd much rather use over Quickling. If they remove your creatures just slam down a 4/4 flyer instead. Faerie Miscreant is a 1/1 flyer that can give you some card draw, which your deck really needs. I'd personally bump up the Military Intelligence to a 4 of to make sure you don't run out of steam.

zamsonov: This deck is retired as of KTK. If I were to bring it into the new world of decks, I would add Faerie Miscreant for sure. However, I cannot emphasize how good Quickling was in play. She is hard to play well, but she is so rewarding.
