The goal of this deck from the outset was to try to make a budget version of the Izzet artifact decks that I have seen on here. The result is this mono-blue/artifact aggro deck.
The deck's win con is Darksteel Citadel + Ensoul Artifact
or Ensoul Artifact
+
Ornithopter
for a quick win if it can't be stopped, complemented by artifact creatures with Ghostfire Blade attached.
THE BREAKDOWN:
Chief Engineer: Gives all my artifacts convoke and is therefore a solide ramp card for my threats. He's also not a terrible blocker, especially against token decks.
Darksteel Citadel: Ideal target for Ensoul Artifact. 5/5 Indestructible Colorless Artifact Land Creature. Pretty rough having that swing at you on turn 3.
Divination: This deck definitely needs a draw engine, and Divination helps us either get to the lands that we need to cast our big creatures, or helps us draw into them on turn 3. I am also considering both Treasure Cruise and Dig Through Time for this slot.
Ensoul Artifact: Ideal targets are Darksteel Citadel, Ornithopter, and sometimes Ghostfire Blade and Phyrexian Revoker
Ghostfire Blade: Give any artifact creature +2/+2 for 2 mana, and move it around for 1 mana. Or can become a 5/5 from Ensoul Artifact in a pinch.
Juggernaut
: The 4 drop threat. It goes great with Ghostfire Blade and really creates pressure if he can be cast on turn 3. It also trades with most creatures if blocked.
Ornithopter: The other ideal target for Ensoul Artifact, a 5/5 flyer that can swing turn 2. Also a great 2/4 blocker with Ghostfire Blade.
Phyrexian Revoker: A great 2 drop. Shuts down a named planeswalker, artifact, weapon, god, creatures with monstrosity, etc. A 4/3 for 4 total mana with Ghostfire Blade as well.
Renowned Weaponsmith: This is a great addition from Fate Reforged. It has the same power/toughness as Chief Engineer, but provides better ramp into our 4 and 6 drops.
Scuttling Doom Engine
: The mid-late game bomb. Great evasion combined with a 6/6 body that forces tough calls about removal and blocking.
Soul of New Phyrexia: Our other 6 drop bomb. It doesn't have the evasion or glorious death that
Scuttling Doom Engine
has, but it makes up for it with trample - which makes it a great creature for Ghostfire Blade - and the ability to make my guys indestructible until end of turn. I'm also considering
Ugin's Construct
for this slot to lower the curve, even if I have to sacrifice Chief Engineer or Renowned Weaponsmith.
I have already begun testing this deck against some popular archetypes that my friends play, and so far the deck has proven that it can win games. I am excited to get the additional cards once Fate Reforged comes out and play and tweak it further.
As always all comments/suggestions/criticisms and +1s are appreciated! Thanks for reading all that.
