Want to play elves but don't want to sell your kidneys to get a playset of Collected Company? Then this deck is for you. The mainboard costs around 45$. The deck runs thusly: You play elves. And then you check around in your deck if there are more elves around, which in turn means you get to draw or cast even more elves, so that you can cast and draw even more elves until you reach a state of maximum over elfification, which results in swinging for lethal by as early as turn 4.
To be more specific, this deck aims to flood the board with cheap elves and elf token producing spells quickly (Dwynen's Elite
+
Elvish Promenade
), but rather than attempting to swarm, it abuses the huge number of elves with Elvish Archdruid to get out game ending spells, like Overrun or Ezuri, Renegade Leader's ability. Elvish Archdruid will regularly pump out 5+ mana, and if your opponent does not interact with you, 10+ mana is easy to achieve by turn 4. Because the archdruid is such a huge target for removal, the deck packs 8 mana dorks and 2 copies of Wood Elves to make sure mana is plentiful even without the archdruid.
Eventhough this deck has no tutoring, we're going about drawing cards the green way: Throw mana at your deck, and your deck will vomit up useful cards. Sylvan Messenger is especially fun in this deck; 4 mana for a 2/2 trampler that will almost always draw you 2 more elf cards to spam the board with, and Lead the Stampede will almost always net you at least 2 or 3 creatures as well. And of course there's Elvish Visionary because it's Elvish Visionary.
Ideally, this deck wants to close the game by turn 4 or 5, but it's got enough power to survive into midgame, with Gaea's Revenge to give the finger to control decks, and Bellowing Tanglewurm to get all of your elves past blockers.
In essence, the deck's ideal play goes a little something like this:
- Turn 1: forest, cast Llanowar Elves. Total Elf count: 1
- Turn 2: forest, cast Elvish Archdruid with Llanowar Elves. Total Elf count: 2
- Turn 3: forest, cast Dwynen's Elite with two forests to create another elf token, then tap Elvish Archdruid for 4 mana because you have 4 elves, cast whatever elf with your remaining forest and Llanowar Elves (Elvish Visionary is always nice, though another mana dork is fine too), then cast Elvish Promenade to create 5 2/2 elf tokens. Total Elf count: 10
- Turn 4: forest, tap three forests to cast Ezuri, Renegade Leader, tap Elvish Archdruid for 11 mana. Now activate Ezuri, Renegade Leader's ability twice to make all of your elves 8/8 with trample. You have 7 of them available to attack with, clocking in to 56 damage before blockers. Alternatively, you could cast Overrun in case Ezuri gets taken down or you don't have him in play to make all of your elves 5/5's with trample, which will clock in 35 damage before blockers. Total Elf count: 11+
For an even cheaper deck, consider replacing Elvish Promenade with Hunting Triad or Gilt-Leaf Ambush, which will slightly weaken the deck, but will shave off about 10-15 bucks.
