So, my first attempt at making a deck I can actually afford. Battalion-themed Boros.

The gist:

  1. Switching out expensive dual lands for Guild Gates, and trying to mitigate the slowness with Boros Keyrune and Azorius Keyrune (which can also help trigger Battalion, if needed).
  2. Firefist Striker, to clear pesky blockers.
  3. To get more juice out of the gates, added 2 Hold the Gates. Good for everyone, but also a much-needed boost to Ordruun Veteran and Firefist Striker.
  4. To help trigger Battalion more reliably, added 2 Fervor.
  5. Aurelia, the Warleader is, of course, the main sauce: 2x battalion triggers per turn, the hope is that, when she comes into play, it's GG.
  6. 2 Nevermore sideboarded, to name the relevant removal cards (Abrupt Decay/Putrefy if facing Golgari, Searing Spear vs. R, etc. The biggest challenge would be vs. black decks, since there's so much good removal.)
  7. 2 Dissipate for make-or-break situations.
One (possibly) very dumb thing to say, but with Boros decks, I find that going over 60 by adding 2 more creatures can rarely be a bad thing. I.e., if you're going for battalion, a larger pool of creatures is good, since it helps keep up with removal, etc. But I welcome any advice to bring it down to 60.

Also would be interested in sneaking in Massive Raid, due to good synergy with Assemble the Legion.

But one thing at a time.

P.S. Check out my for a different take on the deck.
