Idk why no one has mentioned gray merchant yet but he would fit great in this deck. and also main boarding one whip would be good. Also devour flesh would work great in your sideboard cus he gets around hex proof and indestructible cards.

I think putting Gary and the Whip in would slow this deck down too much. I do like the idea of Devour Flesh in the sideboard, though.

Your deck is more of a midrange devotion deck, this one is focused on being more aggro. I'm trying to win before people get their defenses online rather than using evasion and life loss effects to get around defenses. Gary is good, but doesn't fit in this deck.

Yeah he is right. i wouldn't use gary unless he was a devotion style deck. and even if he was using it, there isnt a whole bunch of good enablers in the deck hat supply huge devotion. which would cause him to warp his deck into something he doesnt want.

I said one thing about gray merchant it's not like I'm shoving it down his throat. I understand he doesn't want to use it.

i understand that. i never said that you were. I'm just re-stating the reason on why he should not use Gray Merchant. So don't get defensive on something that doesn't really entirely matter

So here we go. I know this is budget, but I'm going to give a couple pricey suggestions just because I rarely ever think cost-effectively, I usually just think play effectively. So for starters, mono-black deck, Thoughtseize is a no-brainer. Now I know this is expensive so my suggestion would be to run 2 thoughtseize mainboard beside 2 Despise , and run 2 more despise sideboard to replace the thoughtseize when it isn't needed, such as against high creature count decks like yourself, mono-green decks, etc. Hero's Downfall is a must here. In nearly any deck running black in standard, this card is being played. This is the cheapest and most effective removal for late game scenarios as well as early game bombs. I would say push Bile Blight to the sideboard and replace them mainboard with the downfalls. Ulcerate is too much damage to yourself for not a lot of result on your opponent. The primary plays in my group right now are either high creature count and fast, or high creature count and slow. Lots of aggro in this format right now. Ulcerate will either only kill 1 of several creatures early game, or weaken a bomb late game. The Boon of Erebos s are great, I actually have a deck like this and didn't think to play them, they are going mainboard tonight. I would say mainboard Master of the Feast and Nighthowler . master will wreck opponents and be a great finisher or clock for your opponent. Nighthowler is a good late game play, when all your little weenies are in the grave. Pain Seer seems a little unnecessary to me, personally, however I can see the advantage that it might bring in a deck with very low mana costs such as yours. Gray Merchant of Asphodel is AMAZING. He will ruin your opponents, buy you time, or put your opponents on a terrible course against aggro. I know a five drop is a bit heavy for your curve, having a couple late game solutions is a necessity even in aggro. I think whips should be mainboard, as a personal preference. life-gain, and if you run gray merchant, chump block and whip it back for more damage. Everything else looks decent to me. Hope this helps!

I think I still like the Ulcerate plan over bring in higher costing cards like Gray Merchant of Asphodel . If I get late enough into the game where Ulcerate is no longer doing work, I've likely already lost. I also like keeping the land count low, so that I can keep drawing relevant spells, and that would make casting Gary much more inconsistent. The Whips are in the sideboard pretty much just for the Aggro-mirror, particularly against red.

I do like the suggestion of Despise , and I will likely mainboard a couple. Thoughtseize , Hero's Downfall and Master of the Feast are obviously good as you say, but I'm going to stick with the budget plan here as well.

Nighthowler is an interesting suggestion, I hadn't considered it before. I think I'll start by putting them in the sideboard, as against an unknown deck it could easily be a completely weak or dead draw early game when I am wanting to keep up the pressure.

To replace what?

One or two of the kill spells, maybe a creature or two. I think it could compliment Bile Blight and Ulcerate as an alternative to forking over the big bucks for Hero's Downfall . Casting it for three mana seems doable, especially with Boon of Erebos in there to soak up early kill spells.

Obviously not as effective against a deck that runs exile-based removal, but perhaps as a sideboard card? Or maybe I main deck it and take it out against such decks.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is not that expensive so you can run 2 of it or so.and I think you would like some drawpower to draw. because I have the feeling you are going to be topdecking fast. I would suggest Read the Bones or Sign in Blood
