Budget Pioneer Azorious Flyers

Pioneer* Aggro Budget Flying WU (Azorius)

DeviousPulsar

Sideboard

A budget pioneer deck based off of my through Guilds-M21 standard deck: WU Flyers.

The goal of the deck is to absolutely spam our low cost flyers, buff them with Favorable Winds , Empyrean Eagle , and Rally of Wings and beat our opponents down. Watcher of the Spheres and card::Skycat Soverign are morepayoff carsd, which while we spam down our other flyers can dodge in for big damage. Watcher also makes exactly Empyrean Eagle and card:: Warkite Maurader cheaper, but I've found that that's doesn't happen too often, and is rarely significant.

Asides from cheep flyers and payoffs, the rest of the deck is Lofty Denial and Angelic Ascension . These, alongside the counter/creature hybrids of Judge's Familiar and Siren Stormtamer , allow us to protect our board from wipe or removal and make our plan slightly more interactive and sturdy.

Nevertheless, the weakness of this deck is it's lack of sturdiness. The only card draw is off of Winged Words , and there are also few to no ways to out maneuver and generate card advantage. While It is one of life's pure joys to "counter" one of their kill spells by saying "No, it's a 4/4 now" with Angelic Ascension or blow out another attacking force with a sudden untap from Rally of Wings , these situations are either rare or result in a 1-1 trade of resources.

Another weakness of this deck is the manabase. Built upon Reveal lands and Battle lands instead of the significantly more expensive Shock lands, Check lands, and Pathways, it leads to slow mana. As such there are times where you can't advance your plan as quickly, which means that your opponent has more time to find answers to your flyers or go over the top and kill you first.

Aether Gust to just blow out green decks sometimes

Archon of Emeria to just say no to the likes of lotus combo or anything else that's trying to storm off. Also has the upside of shutting down Bring to Light and slowing ground based aggro to a halt.

Elite Spellbinder The best catch all in the sideboard, and a possible main board inclusion. Mostly will target their main pieces or boardwipes. Would be best against decks that go bigger, like Niv Mizzet.

Grafdigger's Cage to say not to graveyard shinanigans, shutting down Lurruses, Pheonixes, and Kroxas.

card::Remorceful Cleric to counter specially to delve cards, like the popular Treasure Cruise

Note: The above to could be combined into one by running Rest in Peace I'm just cheap...

card::Jubulant Skybonder for when the opponent's removal is annoying and you want to make it hard for them to use it.

card::Linvala, Sheild of Sea Gate is a bootleg Selfless Spirit . It's not quiet good enough for main, but it useful when you're particularly scared of board clears or lots of removal really quickly.

Updates Add

Today was my 4th week of Tueday Night, and over the last 4 weeks I've gone 1-9 (Shouldn't that add up to 12? Yes, I missed one match due to oversleeping, and the other was a by - so I'm not counting them). I have taken a total of 4 games. 1 off of a Pheonix deck after completely shutting them down with graffdigger's cage and then out aggroing them, 1 off of UW control not taking a mulligan and desperately digging for lands the first couple of turns, and 2 off of an old Sultai Control list that featured 1x board clear and not enough removal.

At this point changes are needed.

So I've been thinking up a couple ideas. Lurrus Birds, cut out eagle and try and rely on Skycat Sovereign and Favorable Winds. Then have a lurrus in the sideboard to recur my threats. Psuedo Sprits, merge my list with bits and pieces for spirits. This leans on the fact that some cards (eg Rattlechains) are just really good cards. Or continue small refinements. Eg: cut Rally of Wings, more Skycats and other flyers are more important than sometimes dealing 6 damage out of nowhere.

One thing I've noticed that I have problems with is the conundrum of "do I tap out?" If I do, they kill my creatures, but if I don't then I'm not developing fast enough and wont kill them before they overwelm me with something or another...

Sigh... I've having alot of trouble with this deck

...

For now lets go with the following changes -3xRally of Wings -4xSiren Stormtamer +1xSkycat Soverign +2xHope of Ghirapur +4xSilver Raven
