Hello there! After posting my budget modern deck (G/W Budget Saproling Swarm) I thought why not my standard too? And here we are. Right, let's get into this:
Mana:
Llanowar Elves are essential to this deck (like most green stompy decks) being amazing to drop turn 1 for one mana. If they don't get removed, they can really get your game off to a good start.
Druid of the Cowl is just Llanowar Elves for one more mana, again, good for increasing mana however, the one extra mana doesn't really matter too much in the long run.
Now, Elfhame Druid and Untamed Kavu can pair really well, helping getting the Kavu out on turn 3 or 4. Also helps with Grunn, the Lonely King's kicker too, making getting 10 mana not such a daunting task.
Marwyn, the Nurturer is also nice, being dropped turn 2 with the help of Llanowar Elves that, if not removed, can pair nicely with many of the other elf cards in the deck. It's down the the situation or preference whether you play Marwyn, the Nurturer over Steel Leaf Champion as a Marwyn on 2, 3 or even 4 +1/+1s can be amazing, tapping for loads of mana or just going straight in an attacking while Steel Leaf Champion is a monster, taking a quarter of your opponents life.
As far as mana is concerned, Merfolk Branchwalker is decent, either becoming a 3/2 or getting another land on turn 2 which can really help although I might swap them out for something else later down the line.
Win-Con:
Here we go! The big hitters and game closers, the moment you've been waiting for ever since you starting reading this crap description (hopefully).
Our champion this time (see my Saproling deck)is of the Steel Leaf variety. As one of the best cards in the deck, the four copies of Steel Leaf Champion really help to start dishing out the damage, especially when you can drop him on turn 2 when most of your opponent's creature's will be below 3 power so it's basically a free 5 damage unless , of course, he gets removed.
Easily our biggest creature, Grunn, the Lonely King can come in as a 5/5 and attack for 10 or, for a whopping 10 mana, a 10/10 and attack for 20. This is nothing to scoff at, and while he is legendary, once you get him out, play smart and you'll have the game in the bag.
Untamed Kavu is also a really nice card as can be a wonderful 5/5 with vigilance and trample, making it a pain to fight against, or can be a 2/2 if you're low on mana and just need to get something out there.
While there's only 1 copy of Aggressive Mammoth, I'm working on getting more as it pairs nicely with Grunn, the Lonely King and any big creature really, smashing through your opponents defences, aggressively.
Spells:
While removal is hard to come by in green, Rabid Bite can do a good job of getting rid of any pesky creatures in your way and the deck could use some more as no-one really expects green to remove anything.
Talons of Wildwood is very nice on Grunn, the Lonely King, bringing him up to a 12/12 unkicked when attacking with the all important trample and can give many of your creatures a neat little boost.
As far as damage goes, Crash the Ramparts can do an amazing job of increasing it, either taking on a defender or doing even more damage to a player. I'll stop mentioning it because this goes for most of the spells in this deck, but it goes especially well with Grunn, the Lonely King for 16 damage!
Gift of Growth is another kicker card so can be good with Elfhame Druid and, like others before it help out your creatures a lot. It's also good on a pumped Marwyn, the Nurturer as it can allow you to play a huge creature, untap for 2 mana and then play something else, or leave Marwyn, the Nurturer to block.
Now for some supportive spells, it's not all damage, damage damage and Shapers' Sanctuary is good if anyone wants to go near your precious creatures, helping you out with a draw. These can work really well if stacked, making a removed creature not such a big deal
Adventurous Impulse can help out early game if your hand isn't too good and can be used to dispose of land if you happen to have too much on the top of your library. It's nice turn 1 or 2 when you can draw a Steel Leaf Champion or an Untamed Kavu.
Conclusion:
Looks like that's it! All the cards in the deck complete. I don't really think this needs a section on tactics as it's fairly simple to understand: Get mana early, play big cards quick, win. If you wouldn't mind, you can check out my Modern Saproling deck which is also a blast to play. (G/W Budget Saproling Swarm) I am thinking of cards like Gigantosarus, Pelt Collector or Ghalta, Primal Hunger as they all seem to be in the same price range but I'm struggling on who to choose. The more I play, the more I'll update and change the description but the core of the deck will always stay the same, it's too fun to change.
Hopefully this hasn't been that boring to read through and it would help we a lot if you could give any helpful advice, tips or anything like that which can help the deck out! Thanks!
