The point of this little series I will be starting is once a week (Sunday) I will produce a budget deck that is able remain competitive. The deck prices will range between $50 - $75.
Creatures:
Elvish Mystic - Just your standard ramper.
Fanatic of Xenagos - Honestly, I think this guy is underestimated. He's a 4/4 with trample or a 3/3 (with +1/+1 until end of turn) with haste and trample. He just always seems to be a great 3 drop.
Ghor-Clan Rampager - Just a great 4 drop to add aggression or a good combat trick.
Golden Hind
- Not as good....no where near as good....but its the Sylvan Caryatid ramp replacement. /cry
Herald of Torment
- This card seems so mediocre but it ALWAYS seems to over perform for me. When I need a flying creature he's there to bestow. When I need early aggression he's there...I love this guy.
Heroes' Bane - Okay, we all know that this card isn't quite as good as Kalonian Hydra. The upside to this card though is that you can use his synergy with Ghor-Clan to swing, bloodrush, double his power for a one hit.
Reaper of the Wilds
- A great finishing card and can dodge removal in a removal heavy format and also gives you the scry you need since you can't run all of the temples.
Non-creature spells
Dreadbore - A decent replacement for Hero's Downfall and it can be used a turn earlier if they do something like ramp into Domri turn 3. The major downside that everyone knows about this card is that its a sorcery.
Devour Flesh
- Just a cheap removal or creature sac for the sticky situations.
Silence the Believers - A board wipe when needed or a kill spell in the mid game. I don't play more because though I do think this card is good I do not think it deserves more than 2 spots.
Ultimate Price - One of my personal favorite removal card in standard right behind Hero's Downfall because of its pure versatility. Standard is filled with mono colored cards and the few multi-colored cards can be dealt with by the other removals in the deck.
If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them!
Comment decks you would like to see and I'll work on it!
