Good to see another BUG player, doing well, I also went 3-1 last night with BUG Control. We have a good chance of being T1 viable right now we have sufficient answers to what 95% of the meta is right now so we just need to find a way to get into the limelight.

blackmarker90 the only problem BUG has is card draw. I does not have any instant speed card draw worth using :( right now.BaconMan785 I dont own any Bile Blight but i have been considering it.

I know that card draw is our problem, and right now Opportunity is better than nothing. By the time we really will need it we should have six mana or more. And Kiora, the Crashing Wave and Jace, Architect of Thought can patch draw until you play Opportunity

If draw is going to be an issue, perhaps you could rely more on filtering for the time being. I'm currently testing out a BUG tempo deck using Reaper of the Wilds and Duskmantle Seer both of which help with the filtering and card advantage. The scry lands definitely help me get what I want out of the deck a lot sooner, wouldn't worry about them getting in tapped since control decks tend to want to thrive in the late game, giving the scry lands added value later on when you don't really want to draw more lands.

Opportunity seems to be the best option at the moment. I kind of think of Courser of Kruphix as a card-advantage engine in a proactive deck, trouble is then getting it to stick. Read the Bones is a step up from divination which i guess you've already explored both options finding neither appealing.

I also run a BUG deck bUg devotion kinda the bastard child of MUD and BUG superfriends, it's pretty sweet.

A personal favorite is Prophet of Kruphix , most of the time if she is left unanswered the same turn she enters the battlefield, the advantage i get is enormous, playing Divination (and in the future maybe Urban Evolution ) and then untap my lands and creatures to respond your threats and protect my PW is pretty satisfying :P

I would try Kiora, the Crashing Wave , you don't have too much mill to make Jace, Memory Adept more viable than Kiora, and if you can pop her, is almost always a won match.

And since your problem are card draw (like me), you could try to play more scry like Omenspeaker (cheap, fast and good scry for the early turns) or Read the Bones .

+1 to your deck, BUG will prevail :)

Underworld Connections works at instant speed but the only problem is the double black in the cost.

When jace v vraska comes out I'm gonna get one more of each and prob add the jace to the main and the vraska to the side. I'm waiting on kiora, however I cannot have to many walkers bc bug lacks sweepers so it needs lots of spot removal

Bug lacks sweepers? Bro, that Cyclonic Rift is easy to achieve by mid game with some green mana ramp!

Whelming Wave is an interesting option for a sweeper, personally think AEtherize would put your opponent far enough back to get a lot of use out of your walkers.

I was considering both of those cards for sure! I will have to do some testing with both! Thanks gheridarigaaz

In my experience, i'd found that once your meta's aware that you run the aetherize they tend to know you'd be signalling it if you had it and play around it, which could be used to your advantage but it also means you won't always be getting the most out of the interaction, not a huge fan of the card if youre up against blue or black thanks to countermagic and thoughtseize but it can be a blowout against aggressive decks. I haven't had the chance to test out whelming wave sufficiently, and your card advantage engines tend to come down about turn 4 or so, so it looks like the cards will be struggling for space with your other 4-drops.

Qnother card i'd tried was Curse of the Swine as it deals with gods and multiple large threats like polukranos and stormbreath but even then, if you don't have blockers you still wind up having to deal with board presence. It's particularly harsh if your opponent's deck is packed with combat tricks.

have you seen the version of this using Cyclonic Rift +Reap Intellect ?

Can see what I mean here

It's pretty great!

Also, I think your mana is good enough to run more Dissolve and less Psychic Strike . scry 1 is good news.

How did you get the basic lands to pick that art?

March 14, 2014 11:56 a.m.

aaronmaxey says... #18

strongwalker you put [ ZEN ] without the spaces after the land name. I like Psychic Strike bc it gives Deathrite Shaman some things to eat.

Interesting looking deck. Why not find a slot for Prophet of Kruphix she may be a bit above the curve but if you can find the Kioras then I don't think it would be much of an issue (especially if you're adding in the Sylvan Caryatid .

@ strongwalker usually for control Dissolve is indeed better, but here you want cards in their graveyard to feed your Deathrite Shaman and Scavenging Ooze (if it stays, but even for deathrite alone I think it should stay).

SwampHippie thank you for your feedback! I have tried Prophet of Kruphix and I am personally on the fence with it. I have a trade lined up for 1 Kiora, the Crashing Wave so there is a slot that needs to be found. Thanks for the +1This deck has been my project since before Theros Rotation. It was so much better with Think Twice and Snapcaster Mage and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage

aaronmaxey says... #25

thanks colin13 I have seen that list! It is pretty good! However I like to have a little more creatures in my decks to apply pressure on the board and have blockers to protect my walkers.
