Why use Sorin Markov? He seems a little underpowered for Modern, especially at his cost. I personally would add a second Tasigur, the Golden Fang in to help apply pressure and give back some more relevant spells.

Also I know that Crux of Fate is likely for budget, but Damnation is so much better in Modern since most aggressive decks can kill you by turn 4-5.

Nice.

Plus 1

I may add Crux of Fate as i never even considered it!

Just friendly chatter, I find the 4 spot such a problem area in CC,I have tried

Desecration Demon

Slaughter Games

Chandra, the Firebrand

None seem to work.

And Damnation and Cryptic Command are way too expensive...

I like the use of Volcanic Fallout over pyroclasm, bc Esper tokens....

lemmingllama I might consider that but Sorin Markov is actually great game finisher. Usually I can shut out my opponent around turn six or seven and use him to lower their life total and give me some extra life. He is a bit costly though and I will try out replacing him with Tasigur, the Golden Fang and see how it goes. Yes, I have Crux of Fate only for budget reasons but I will replace it ASAP! Thanks for the suggestions, would you mind giving a +? Thanks!

BrandonJamesCAC The 4 CMC spot is really a tough one! Once I acquire Crux of Fate that is where it will go, but Jace, Architect of Thought actually works very well. He can make 1/1 tokens useless and provides great draw. Thanks for the +1 and the suggestions!

Wow, nice deck! I would definitely consider removing your Shivan Reef for a non-painful land, maybe another fetch? Also, have you considered Mystical Teachings for tutoring up stuff? I love the inclusion of Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker in here ;)

Despise might be better for budget hand disruption than Duress. I'd imagine you're more worried about creature spells than non creature spells. Also, I would really suggest dropping your Dreadbores for Dismembers. Other than the suggestion I made earlier about adding in Creeping Tar Pit for Lavaclaw Reaches, but other than that the deck is really looking great!

Also I am going to go down to one Cruel Ultimatum, but I dont know what to put in. Any suggestions? TheAlexGnan

April 19, 2015 8:59 a.m.

The problem with Cruel Ultimatum is that it takes too much mana. You tap out for it and then you get killed on the next turn because you couldn't counter. It also takes 7 mana. 7 mana! It's too expensive.

I feel you're better off with 1 Jace, Memory Adept because his +1 accelerates your draw, his 0 can be a wincon if you need it, and by targeting yourself with his -7 you can draw into everything you need all at once.

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker suffers from the same fate as Cruel Ultimatum. It's a super fun card that can't be played in any other modern deck, but it's just too much mana. You're better off with a Batterskull.

If you're looking for cards to add, I'd add in more Duress because it's such a great card.

April 19, 2015 10:56 a.m.

Try Jace, Memory Adept Instead of Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker as earlier suggested. Whereas he is not as powerful the second he hits the board, you will have more mana open to keep a counterspell handy, Because if your playing a control mirror match, or any type of control, You will feel so sad if tap out one turn dropping bolas, just to have him Dreadbored on their turn for two mana. With jace you will have the mana open to counter the removal, and then basically replace it next turn with his +1. Other than that looks pretty good, maybe try some more Think Twice

TheAlexGnan Yes, burn is a problem for my deck. Do you have any ideas on how to fix that?

The Lavaclaw Reaches are also for budget reasons, but luckily Creeping Tar Pit isn't too much so I will have them soon.

Hey guys,

Deck is looking good.

Not loving Supreme Verdict or Sphinx's Rev here. With all the kills spells we have, 1 or 2x Anger of the Gods/Pyroclasm is plenty.

And the 1x Spell Pierce Seems meh.

I haven't got on board with Tasigur yet so I can't comment.

But Delving Logic Knot Seems like it may be problematic?

Looking great though!

BrandonJamesCAC, TheAlexGnan I think I am going to just drop the white, I dont have any of the white-producing lands so it wouldn't really be a problem. I might take out the spell pierce as it really hasn't done too much in playtesting. Logic knot is actually very good because of all the spells I play so usually it is just a hard counter for two. If I drop white do you have any other suggestions for dealing with burn?

May 25, 2015 5:31 p.m.

There are backdoor ways to "survive" against burn.

Sideboard in 3x DuressSideboard in 3x Dispel

I personally love Funeral Charm and Piracy Charm too.

Burn runs out of cards quickly. If you pluck two by turn three they will be topdecking. Then Funeral and Piracy after their draw step. You still might get zinged. But if they draw a land/creature/sorcery they have to discard it.

May 25, 2015 6:18 p.m.

Already looks so much better without those goody-goody Senator spells gone

I may have found the solution to your burn problem. Try siding Dragon's Claw. It will effectivly stall your burn opponent and they will simply run out of cards and you will overwhelm the burn player with card advantage.

May 26, 2015 5:08 p.m.

Spellskite is also fantastic anti-burn. Hand removal is great as well. I know you already run some, but more is never bad. But the best anti-burn tactic is lifegain. Hard to do in grixis, but if you can attack with Batterskull just once, you will win. Almost guaranteed.

Olivia Voldaren is one of the best control creatures out there. She can get bigger as the game goes on, kill opponents' creatures, and steal opponents' creatures. Executioner's Capsule is amazing removal when paired with Academy Ruins, which also works well with Engineered Explosives. Just some suggestions. I'd test anything out to see how well it works for you before anything else :)

June 1, 2015 5:14 p.m.

There are just a few cards I don't really agree with. It's a fantastic list right now, but I'm afraid I don't understand a few cards.

Illness in the Ranks seems too small. It is a good card, but I think it's unnecessary. Twin is already made easy by Rakdos Charm which is an insta-win. And BW tokens doesn't really care because their anthems make the tokens bigger then 1/1, so illness doesn't do much.

I think there's better cards than Geth's Verdict. I'd much rather see Far / Away because it doesn't require to cast in a 3 color deck. Far / Away is also better because your opponent needs 3 creatures in order to pitch a usless creature to away.

I'd add 1 more Creeping Tar Pit as well because it's a fantastic wincon.

Good luck!
