I feel like Grim Lavamancer and Barbarian Ring clash with each other, perhaps you could find a substitute for the ring?

I could such as adding Arid Mesa, Wooded Foothill, Scalding Tarn, or even Bloodstained Mire. The only reason I don't is because they're about $50 each. I don't have that kind of money.

How is Vexing Devil treating you? I feel with so much cheap removal (Lightning Bolt , Swords to Plowshares , etc) in the format, people would let him hit the board and take care of him after. Plus once they land a Tarmogoyf or a flipped Delver of Secrets  Flip he's not a threat.

I play burn on Modo, and run mostly spells along with Goblin Guide . I do run a couple of Young Pyromancer but I'm still not sure about him.

But the big card missing from your list is Price of Progress . That puppy is easily 6-8 damage by turn 4. Then if you are playing against a mono-coloured deck, you side them out for something else.

As for sideboard, you need graveyard hate since your deck can't win through a turn 2 Iona, Shield of Emeria .

I already took out Vexing Devil for Price of Progress so it wouldn't matter plus i couldn't care if they brought out Tarmogoyf because i'll just chump block it with goblin guide while im still killing my opponent. if i kill my opponent then i dont have to kill their creatures. that simple. plus this is only going to be a mono-colored red deck so im not going to add in three Plains just for Iona, Shield of Emeria .

they're Tarmogoyf could only be at most an 18/18 by the turn i have already killed my opponent. so that means at most i could have only taken 10 damage from him before my opponent loss

@ #1 and they don't deal damage i also wont need a whole lot of lands so if i dont need to use barbarian ring to cast something then i wont and even if grim lavamancer gets rid of my cards in my graveyard, my opponent is gonna die soon so it wouldnt make a difference any way. i just wont cast or use its ability if there's no point

I think you misunderstood what I was saying.\

The Goyf was that they will block your Vexing Devil all day, it wasn't about them attacking you. Just saying that the Devil was not an auto 4 damage. But you took them out so that point is moot.

As for Iona, you NEED to have a plan for her. You can either run Faerie Macabre in your side or Surgical Extraction which means you do not have to run another colour. She is auto lose for you, and both Reanimator and Dredge run her. Also, for sideboard, you should be running some Pyroblast / Red Elemental Blast to fight off counters to make sure your 8 damage Price of Progress makes it through. Always room for a sideboard in decks like these. Skullcrack and Flames of the Blood Hand are cards help you against decks that gain life. Add to your 3 Vortex you already have to make sure you have something when they try to gain a little bit.

well i'm not worrying about Iona, Shield of Emeria because if my opponent isn't dead by the time she comes out then that means there was already no hope of me winning the battle. and i dont exactly worry about counter spells too much because im going to be casting more spells than they can stop and will soon overrun them with damage

Bmooreman says... #10

the thing about Iona is that people never directly play her, they cheat her in with things like reanimation tricks

Tyrannosary says... #11

True, if that happens then i could add counter spells into my sideboard, thanks for the tip you guys

yeah if you could suggest some of those cards to add that would be great. Thnx in advance

Sideboard tech: Smash to Smithereens for artifacts. Ashen Rider for Show & Tell matchups. Pyrostatic Pillar for Storm.

May 30, 2014 9:46 p.m.

Tyrannosary says... #17

I will add in Smash to Smithereens to the sideboard just in case for artifact removal. i wont add in Ashen Rider because i want this to be a mono red deck, and i think Pyrostatic Pillar is just going to hurt me more than my opponent since this deck has cards that cost 3 mana or less (when i play Fireblast i always sac two lands). most other peoples' decks will have cards that are above 3 mana. thnx for the suggestions

May 31, 2014 10:30 a.m.

I don't think you quite understand the meaning behind Ashen Rider and Pyrostatic Pillar . Rider is for Show and Tell matchups. They drop a fattie like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or Griselbrand turn 1 or 2, you have no other way to deal with it and win. Pyrostatic Pillar is for Storm, so decks that run Grapeshot , Empty the Warrens , and Tendrils of Agony . They also are capable of going off turn 2-3, faster than you. Pillar kills them due to the high amount of spells, cantrips, and rituals ala Dark Ritual , Seething Song , they play. Pillar can also work against Elves, which uses tons of dorks to produce ridiculous amounts of mana and Glimpse of Nature .

I should be able to kill the opponent even if they do cast Show and Tell because of how fast I will kill them. I do see what you mean by adding Pyrostatic Pillar . Thnx for the suggestion.

KrazyCaley says... #20

I would concur with aeonstoremyliver about the Ashen Rider - Show and Tell decks will kill you without any ability for you to respond (except at instant speed) if they resolve Show and Tell . You can fix that with an Ashen Rider .

May 31, 2014 5:20 p.m.

Yeah man, Show and Tell can drop Emrakul turn one by laying down a Lotus Petal , Ancient Tomb , then cast Show and Tell . There's not a thing you can do against that except run Ashen Rider .

Red deck wins is poised to win turn three at the earliest on a nut draw and without disruption. Turn four wins are more common. Any deck that can win before you can, you absolutely need to sideboard against. I board heavy against S&T and TES/ANT because they're faster and hard to deal with. Affinity can be faster at times, as can Elves. Control or other sorts of disruption can slow us down, but we can often pull off a win.

I wonder how will you put Ashen Rider on the battlefield?

Sorry for qvuestion but I don't have a clue. I'm not a lrgacy player so.....

Tyrannosary says... #24

I'm not planning on bringing out Ashen Rider in a game it's only if my opponent cast Show and Tell that I will bring it out due to show and tell's ability

June 1, 2014 1:34 p.m.

Looking better! You could cut a 3x Mountain s for Vexing Devil or Keldon Marauders .
