What is your answer to any creature with hexproof? You have no creatures so it turns into a race and Geist of Saint Traft will kill you in 3-4 turns.

Reforge the Soul because red needs card draw. Bonfire of the Damned , Slagstorm and Whipflare to deal with the quick aggro decks infesting standard. id remove all the faithless lootings since your deck has no graveyard play, other than the other faithless lootings. Thunderous Wrath could be good too.

Yep, pretty much every quick aggro will probably swarm and overwhelm you i'd suggest more board wipes and you might want to look into planeswalker if you want to keep it creatureless

definitely needs 2 copies of Thunderous Wrath , other than that pretty good except personally just as an idea id add a copy or two of Reverberate lol. also Pillar of Flame is strictly better than Shock , seeing as how you are already running copies of Galvanic Blast . another good one drop burn is geistflame, though imo you are betting leaving that out. congrats if you have two copies of Bonfire of the Damned

Just to clarify-- Pillar of Flame isn't strictly better, because it is a sorcery, while Shock is an instant. But both are worthy burn spells!

I like the idea, since Reforge the Soul is essentially a new Wheel of Fortune , decks that simply use the burn to the face, are insane. Now we just need another Pyromancer Ascension and we're good to go!

On a side note, have you considered Staff of Nin burn/draw seems ideal for this, and I imagen it would be around turn 5/6 you're hitting your "Shit, out of cards" stage. 6 mana is a little steep though.

Sideboard;

2x Smelt for those pesky swords and pikes.

2x Chandra, the Firebrand since UB is the only control around at competitive level currently and it can't touch planeswalkers.

2x Mimic Vat Burn their creatures. Steal their creatures, use their creatures. It also helps shock act as an instant-based pillar of flame.

I assume you have the bonfire's? They're about $40 a piece currently, despite being an almost dreadful card, and a forced play every other time you draw it, it will soon be the only sweeper in standard. So, control wont have much of a back foot.

Otherwise, perhaps card:Devil's Play? A re-usable mana sink just gets you a little out of trouble if you're using all your burn to hold their creatures back.

I would, also, consider the possibility of titan-like creatures.I mean, Lone Revenant is seeing play a little, a 4/4 hexproof beats your deck unless you pay out the ass for a Bonfire of the Damned , and assuming it hits once, they'll have a counter spell. Also, titans. Dealing 6 damage isn't easy in red, so you may wish to consider running Koth of the Hammer or Chandra, the Firebrand main board to give you that extra mana boost, to sink, or double that Slagstorm .

That being the whole issue. You don't want to spend 3 2/3 damage spells, to kill their one titan, after they've drawn the lands off it, too. So, I'd just play test against those decks if you can, and see what you can do about it.

Let me know how it gets on at an FNM or two.

I tried my hand at one of these recently. Personally, Id mainboard 3x chandra, add Shrine of Burning Rage and Volt Charge . Even without the other two I still like chandra mainboard. Probably also either more Reforge the Soul or otherwise Past in Flames (or at least Dangerous Wager ) as I think your running out of cards too quickly. otherwise +1

One card DESTROYS your ability to stop an aggro deck or any green deck for that matter: Predator Ooze . I used my deck:here-comes-the-beast-big-fat-anddeadly-o_o deck to testplay yours.

You can burn pretty quickly, but a lot of the times you end up not being able to play cards cause the mana doesn't get out quick enough. A good example is game 1. You weren't getting a whole lot of mana, and a Predator Ooze turn 3 definitely would make your heart sink. Although the Reforge the Soul made me lose Garruk, Primal Hunter , Elderscale Wurm and a Primordial Hydra , two Predator Ooze s, two Strangleroot Geist s and a Young Wolf ultimately destroyed you. I give you credit though. Brought me down to one life :3

Game two was just complete disaster, and I would even say on both ends. Your lack of creatures made my Prey Upon s dead draws, and with two in the opnening hand, might as well have started the game with 5 cards instead of seven. The lack of mana stopped you from casting Whipflare , Slagstorm ( well, mana and the fact you were down by 5 life and facing a Yeva ). Once Predator Ooze got out though it went by quickly, with the win going to me.

Final result ( me - you ) : 2 - 0 Try cutting back on the sorceries by a lot and adding some creatures to slow down some aggro styled decks, and find a way to get past a Predator Ooze if you can. Indestructible just destroys the strategy and will hurt you if you have no creatures in your deck.

Suggestions:

Chandra, the Firebrand , Goblin Arsonist , Firewing Phoenix ( great for blocking then being able to bring it back :3 ), Reverberate , and finally Rummaging Goblin for getting rid of unnecessary cards and hoping to draw better ones.

well umbro you do have a good point...i don't have a real good way to stop Predator Ooze ...but red really doesn't have a good way to do that.

that being said, i will fix this up.

August 20, 2012 6:47 p.m.

I'd drop the Shrine of Burning Rage s. I have playtested against a few red decks with them and they weren't worth the investment if you can't proliferate or buff up the counters quickly, and by quickly I mean like, 10 counters within three turns.

I'd put in 2 Thunderous Wrath s and the two Rummaging Goblin s in your sideboard.

August 20, 2012 7:10 p.m.

Round two of playtesting.

Game 1, I must admit the shrines did way better than I thought, effectively killing a 6/6 Primordial Hydra before getting buffed any bigger. The sad fact that you had to keep mana open to use the burn spells let the counters build up, but still ended up doing nothing besides killing a Hydra. I guess you could argue that if you can get the mana out each turn, and get it done quickly, it could be a game ender.

Game 2 Wasn't too good for you. Facing down 3 Predator Ooze s. Not much I can say, though you did quickly kill the Young Wolf and Strangleroot Geist . The deck looks great, and I might just try it against some other decks to see if it's the match up.

Try testing it yourself. It might be how I play or the type matchup.

umbro, every deck has a bad match up. I guarantee you if you played mbp with your deck, you would lose, because mutilate and black sun's zenith ruins your deck. of course, im not going to comment on the deck telling you how bad it is against its worst match up.

Do you have any suggestions for this deck or no?

No, i did not create this deck.

August 21, 2012 11:10 a.m.

@numa529: Don't try to pick a fight dude. I was just trying to be helpful. I know every deck has a bad matchup, but to play against that and still come out a winner is what makes a deck truly amazing. Don't try picking a fight.

August 21, 2012 11:21 a.m.

numa529 says... #20

im not picking a fight. Im just saying you could have told him what might HELP that matchup, instead of just telling him that his deck does badly against it. im sure he knows.

August 21, 2012 12:49 p.m.

And I did. If you look at the comments before, when I first tested it, you'd see I gave him some feedback on how the test went, what he should have changed, and what to watch out for. The only difference this time is I didn't give him any card suggestions cause I ran out. This time I simply stated how the battle went, and what to watch out for.

alright guys lol

Umbro suggested a huge list of cards at one point.

There is no answer for predator ooze in red. If he plays it, i lose. that just happens. but i'm trying to make this deck fast so i don't have to worry about those matchups.

August 21, 2012 3:19 p.m.

I knew that lol. I just simply stated that it was a huge threat. Although the statement red can't get rid of it is false. Say hi to Worldfire :D I know though. Unrealistic.

btw, i just wanted to tell everyone how much i appreciate their help =)

August 21, 2012 5:16 p.m.

No problem :) I still think you should drop the Shrine of Burning Rage for 3 Thunderous Wrath s and then drop two mountains for 3 Rummaging Goblin s.
