@Araganor: Burning Earth sounds really good if it fits the budget since the deck doesn't run any non-basic lands!

OK, I will try to trade for 2 Burning Earth on Friday when I FINALLY get to take it to an FNM! I'm really excited, woohoo! I playtested the deck today against someone at my local store who was piloting Esper Control (Sphinx's Revelation and all, not a budget build), and I won! Game 1, I won via a Possibility Storm 'ed Worldspine Wurm . It was pretty funny, he said, "Hey, it would be really funny if that Young Pyromancer turned into a Worldspine Wurm , and the very next card was the Wurm! Anyway, I lost game 2 to Obzedat, Ghost Council , which was near impossible to deal with using instant speed burn spells, and I hadn't sided in any Turn / Burn or Rapid Hybridization . Game 3, he lost to a Blast of Genius , discarding Wurm after I had hit him a few times with Guttersnipe . They were fun games, and the deck really kept him on his toes. I have a feeling he would probably be better prepared next time around, but we both had a good time anyway. I'm looking forward to Friday, and I'll let you guys know how it goes.

As a sidenote, I'm actually thinking that Anger of the Gods might be a better choice instead of Burning Earth in the sideboard, because I have a hard time dealing with monored devotion or Rakdos aggro, which swarm the board way too fast for me to deal with. I'll think about it.

If you did go with Anger of the Gods , Would you be switching out the Blast of Genius for it on the games you used it? Or would you try to play around it?

December 19, 2013 9:18 p.m.

Araganor says... #4

Depends. I might drop it, but not because I would be worried about consistency. More because I would need to be able to to stay alive long enough to play it. I could probably lower the Blast count down to one, and add in at least 2 Anger of the Gods . Alternatively, I could drop the Explosive Impact , since it is too slow for that matchup. I would have to see what works and what doesn't.

I would probably do:

-1x Blast of Genius

-1x Explosive Impact

+2x Anger of the Gods

You'd want something to hit Master of Waves with. Something to stop Underworld Connections . Pithing Needle can stop Underworld Connections , only answer you have to Master of Waves is Turn / Burn fused.

Bromjunaar says... #6

Anger of the Gods would also be an answer to Master of Waves , as well as it's tokens if they get buffed by something such as Master Biomancer .

Araganor says... #7

As far as Master of Waves , I have 3 answers to that, or 4 if you count Anger of the Gods . Rapid Hybridization , Turn / Burn , and Catch / Release (The tokens would die when I steal the master). Granted, they are in the sideboard, so game 1 might hurt.

I did pretty meh at the FNM, going 1-3-1. I sorely underestimated the amount of aggro in my meta (Soooo much green devotion), and in addition I had a few issues with color screw (I did have a single Steam Vents , but it wasn't enough). Definitely going to be putting in some guild gates, as I would rather have to wait a turn for my mana than sit on 2 islands the whole match, which happened far too often. I had a ton of fun though, and all my opponents wanted to shake my hand at the end of the matches. The deck made for some very interesting games and brought variety that people were desperately craving. I'll post an update tomorrow. Anger of the Gods was amazing, definitely going to put that in the sideboard instead of Burning Earth . The games were very illuminating on what worked and what didn't work as far as sideboard strategy goes, I will be making a sideboard guide when I post the update tomorrow.

Not a bad outing for deck at FNM. Sounds like it got done what it wanted to do, which is have fun.

Also, I built an all creature variant in Gruul Colors that just looking at it seems to be between standard Gruul smash and this.

I think I have a solid main board but the side still needs a lot of work.

just wanted to state, you got a bit too much blue mana. look at your inner and outer mana circle graphs. Way too much blue mana than necessary.

December 27, 2013 3:33 p.m.

unholycookies says... #11

Yes he does, but here's the thing. He needs/wants that blue mana. Needs it for Izzet Charm for a counter maybe, or throw the worm back into the deck. Usually don't want that card in your starting hand. And let's not forget, big part of his win con Mercurial Chemister . Deck doesn't win as easily without it, mostly because he needs the cards. Still say you should have some method of throwing your graveyard back into your deck.

@Bromjunaar: I like it!

@blackout3625: I have recently updated the deck a bit, and I have yet to run into any issues with too many blue sources. I need blue to be able to cast several of my spells, so I need to ensure that I hit at least one island. I wouldn't put too much faith into the charts on Tapped Out, because if you go too low on a certain color source, you will not always see it every game. Also, Tapped Out will mana screw way more than real life cards will :/ Just ask Spootyone.

With that said, I've got another deck update posted, for those of you interested! I'm definitely getting better at piloting the deck. I'm learning when to play creatures, when to pass, etc. It's been a lot of fun! I have unfortunately been unable to devote as much time as I would like to working to T/O, but I check in when I can. You guys are awesome, as always!

Hey, your deck inspired my Welcome To My Storm deck. I've been playing Izzet for a long time in the current standard and was about to give up till I saw your deck.

I'm taking more or less this list to FNM this week. I love Possibility storm so much and I've been looking for a way to use it well.

It would be awesome if you would check out my elf deck Mono Green Elf Deck and see if you could give me any suggestions. I would love input from smart mtg players.

I had two Possibility Storms sitting in my trade binder for months. "Who would play this card? What does it even do?" I'd ask myself after looking at it time after time. (I've only been playing MtG about a year)

I peruse TappedOut for deck ideas since I'm an awful deck builder and came across this. Your deck explained the idea behind Possibility Storm perfectly and I'm all for making a fun troll deck, so I built your deck for fun.

And let me tell you, it is a real joy to play. When it works, it is a true terror. Whether it's storming into the dreaded Worldspine Wurm on turn 6 or storming instant after instant with two Young Pyromancer (or Guttersnipe ) in play to make four tokens per storm round, the deck really does have some amazing...possibilities.

+1 from me, Araganor. I hope I can develop the kind of magic sense you do because this is really great.

So what do you think of BOTG? Any nice treats to play with there? :) I'm still running this deck every second FNM~ :)

Araganor says... #23

Hey everyone! I'm still alive, yay! Time for replies.

@itisme282: Ehh, I've tried it, and never really had the need. I will have already won or lost long before Elixir becomes necessary to use. I would rather just keep those slots for more spell spamming instead. Thanks for the suggestion though!

@blackout3625: Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean that I made a new deck. Rather I meant I had updated this one. My apologies! Anyway, I plan on starting up on deckbuilding again soon thanks to BotG and what not, so hopefully you will be getting a new one soon! I have a few ideas floating around, but nothing built yet.

@HuskyRedz: Thanks for the credit! I took at your version, and I think you pulled it off pretty well! You got an upvote from me :)

@Talmanes: Yeah, every time I play it at my store everyone has a blast. I still get weird looks when I drop Possibility Storm , but then they turn to cries of horror when they see the Wurm. I'm gonna be sad when Possibility Storm rotates. Best of luck to you!

@ElfKing: Glad you like it! I would be happy to look at your deck, but I doubt I would be of much help to you, since I have never even touched modern, let alone legacy. The extent of my legacy experience stops around the Duels of the Planeswalkers series on Steam. Nevertheless, I will try and tell you what I think, since you asked me so nicely.

@DHAPandaMan: Ehh, you green users have had it way too easy! Besides, don't tell me you've never cheated him out with a Garruk, Caller of Beasts before. Yeah, that's what I thought :P

@Whacker_Slacker_2: Thank ye kindly.

@Slamtrain: Thanks man. I appreciate it, but I've still got a lot to learn as a player myself. You only see the deck now in its final stages, but it took a while and a LOT of help from other people to get it to the way it is now. That's why Tapped Out is so great: you have an idea, you bring it here, and the community helps you take it as far you can. You know the funny thing? A lot of my ideas come from helping other people with their own decks. I go and look at someone's deck, and think of ways I could make it better, and sometimes I get an idea for a deck while toying around with improvements on the gatherer. Suddenly, I have another fun deck to mess around with, or the person I was helping can take their deck in a totally new direction. At any rate, I'm glad you enjoy playing the deck; if you have had even half the amount of fun I have had with it, then I'm honored you got to see it!

@zaxinou: I will be sure to take a look!

@Kismet: Unfortunately, nothing I have seen so far has struck me as "must play" material. There were some nice burn spells in red (Searing Blood and Fated Conflagration in particular), but they were pretty red mana intensive, so I will need to test them out first. Another card that struck me as interesting was Lightning Volley , but it seemed a bit situational and a tad on the expensive side. Retraction Helix seems pretty nifty as well, and would be annoying as hell with enough bodies on the board. Archetype of Aggression could be a sideboard tech against green to let my tokens chump block against trample as well. I'm going to mess around with things and see what works, but it will be hard to know for sure until we see what the meta shift, if any, is going to look like. In other news, Drown in Sorrow is going to be scary for this deck >_>

IN ADDITION!!!!!!

I want to try out a new card in this deck: Ratchet Bomb . I have recently been stuggling against enchantments (For example Underworld Connections or Assemble the Legion , hell even Bow of Nylea 's lifegain can be a bother. It would also be devastating against Esper late game with all of the D-spheres floating around), and having a reliable way to take them down would be great. It also has plenty of other utility uses, and could be nice psychological warfare with the opponent. My plan is to include 2 copies in the sideboard, dropping 1 Rapid Hybridization and 1 Pithing Needle . I would love to hear everyone's thoughts about this before I make the change. Do you think it's a good plan? Or unnecessary? Thanks in advance for your thoughts! You guys are awesome (as always), and this deck's success has gone exponentially beyond my expectations thanks to you all.

TL;DR: sorry I've been gone for a while but now I'm back

Quick question about something you said in your explanation of the deck ". Keep in mind that discarding Worldspine Wurm using Izzet Charm shuffles it back into your library!"

How does this work?Just bought the cards for the deck and am super excited to give it a whirl!
