I think Surrak Dragonclaw would be solid! Another way to give trample to deathtouch creatures is never bad. And with so many creatures in the list, making it so they can't be countered seems like a nice bonus. I will add him to the maybeboard and will definitely consider it.

As much as i love Rhona's i think Nylea, God of the Hunt would be better and also Bow of Nylea might be good in this deck.

Bow of Nylea would make Jegantha illegal as a companion, but otherwise it would have been a great fit. I like the idea of Nylea, God of the Hunt as yet another way to give my deathtouch creatures trample (a combination I love!) but without having to pay extra mana for it. She doesn't have deathtouch herself though, while Rhonas does. She's also not always a creature, which can be an upside but can also be a downside, especially when Odric is out and she can't share her indestructible keyword with my other creatures, which is always turned on with Rhonas. Definitely worth considering though. I will add Nylea to the maybe board. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh i forgot about the companion for that bow. Never played with a companion before. I am thinking of putting Surrak Dragonclaw in and taking Majestic Myriarch out. What is your opinion on Chromatic Lantern and Garruk Wilderspeaker?

Garruk Wildspeaker would also make Jegantha illegal as a companion. Or perhaps you meant a different Garruk? Chromatic Lantern would be a good choice. I'm honestly not confident about the mana base as is, so another way to get all the colors could be very helpful. My current list has a lot of basics for budget reasons and I'm planning to rely on green mana ramp like Cultivate and Farseek, along with Jegantha, to get the colors I need. I expect I may be making swaps once I have the deck in paper and am able to play it a few times.
And swapping in Surrak Dragonclaw for Majestic Myriarch seems like a fine choice. I am personally excited to try out the Myriarch so I expect to keep it in for at least the first version of this deck. I view it as a backup to Odric to still take advantage of all the keywords if/when Odric gets removed. But it doesn't contribute much otherwise since, other than having huge stats (assuming I have a lot of creatures in play), it really doesn't do anything while Odric is also in play. Plus it's not legendary and thus doesn't synergize with Buttercup. So Surrak may very well be stronger. Like I said above, I think Surrak is a solid choice and I may very well add him myself at some point.

Oh i did find a card while i was at my local shop....Gemstone Mine seems fine for this deck and it is super cheap to buy now.

Gemstone Mine is interesting. It's great that it comes into play untapped and can generate any color, but there is a risk that we run out of mining counters and it stops producing mana altogether. Giving it another way to produce mana, such as with Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth or Chromatic Lantern would help it a lot. It gets better if we have Atraxa out to proliferate it, and we do have a few other ways to proliferate but not very consistently. Of course, perhaps we don't care as long as it helps us tutor with Buttercup at least once (probably to get Atraxa to preserve our land, assuming we haven't sacrificed it already). Interestingly, I probably don't want the mine to be one of my first few lands as I want it to last until at least turn 4 or 5, which is the earliest we can realistically tutor with Buttercup for the first time. It is probably worth testing though. Thanks for the suggestion!

I like Garruk's Uprising a lot and have it in multiple decks. I have mostly used it for card draw, which means it's a natural fit in a deck with many creatures with power 4 or greater. For the current Buttercup list, I'm counting 8 total creatures that naturally have power of at least 4, but you could say 10 since Buttercup and Majestic Myriarch will almost always be at least that big. That number would normally not get me excited. However, since both our commander (Buttercup) and our companion (Jegantha) will normally trigger it, we should almost always draw a card when Garruk's Uprising comes into play. So at worst it's a 3-mana cantrip with the upside to draw at least another card or two during the game. Notably, the card draw activates when a creature "enters the battlefield" instead of upon cast. That's awesome with Buttercup as it means any creature we tutor for with power 4 or greater will also trigger the card draw. Most of the creatures we most likely want to tutor for meet the criteria, including Inigo (Samut, Voice of Dissent), Atraxa, Praetors' Voice, and Jodah, the Unifier. For that reason, I think Garruk's Uprising would be a great include. I was already thinking I wanted more card draw, so I may definitely have to find room for it...
The thing I haven't mentioned yet is that Garruk's Uprising also gives trample to all our creatures, which as I have said before is great with all our deathtouch creatures. Usually that has been an afterthought when I've played Garruk's Uprising in the past, but in this case it's perhaps even more powerful than the card draw aspect.
I've also realized after doing a bunch of playtesting/goldfishing, that I almost always want to tutor for Inigo and Odric to get the keyword soup synergies going, which seems to make it less important to have multiple deathtouch craetures in play. The main thought here is that I only need a single deathtouch creature (Westley himself does the trick!) and then Odric gives deathtouch to everything else. Because of this, I'm thinking of cutting some of the lower-power deathtouch creatures to add a couple more 2-mana ramp spells to help me get to Buttercup/Jegantha sooner.
Ramping on turn 2 feels really important in this deck since we have a 3-mana commander and it costs 3 mana to put our companion in our hand. If we can ramp on turn 2, we have two powerful play patterns:
- Play Buttercup on turn 3, and then tap for Buttercup's ability to tutor on turn 4. This is quick and allows us to get the best cards from our deck really early.
- Put Jegantha into our hand turn 3, then play Jegantha on turn 4. This is much slower, but on turn 5 we now have 10+ mana available (five from Jegantha assuming we have enough colored pips to utilize it, and six mana if we've hit each land drop in addition to the ramp on turn 2). We can use that 10+ mana to play Buttercup and other stuff from hand, setting ourselves up for a more impactful tutor on turn 6.
Whether I go for Buttercup or Jegantha likely depends on if I need Jegantha to get my five colors, although I'll say the deck feels way more powerful with Jegantha in play. Waiting for Jegantha is slower initially, but you'll be playing 2+ cards per turn sooner, which could lead to a quicker victory. The ultimate decision on which route to go likely depends on the match-ups and board states at the time.
As I alluded to before, the bummer with 3-mana ramp is that it gets in the way of both our commander and companion, which means the soonest we could tutor with Buttercup is turn 5 (ramp turn 3, play Buttercup turn 4, then she can tap turn 5). But at this point we haven't used our ramp at all, so the only benefit is perhaps color fixing. The Jegantha route is delayed until turn 7 (ramp turn 3, get Jegantha in hand on turn 4, play Jegantha turn 5, play Buttercup turn 6, tutor turn 7). Both routes are more awkward because you are forced into not utilizing all your mana for multiple turns in a row. Because of that I'm wondering if Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and Relic of Legends are worth it. They still may be just for the color fixing aspect, especially since I'm running a very budget mana base, but it's something to consider.
Also, since it came up before, I'll say that Majestic Myriarch has felt great in my hand when I've been able to cast it on the same turn I tutor for Inigo and get him into play. The Myriarch instantly has double strike, vigilance, and haste from Inigo, plus it often has deathtouch and flying from other creatures on board. Even if I only have 5 creatures (Buttercup, Jegantha, Inigo, the Myriarch itself and one other thing) then it's hitting for 20 damage the turn it drops. Nice!

Yeah as i was hitting my local shop to get the cards for this majestic deck i was thinking of taking some of them deathtouch creatures out and maybe something else like double strike (idk about you but having a double strike trampling Rodents of Unusual Size attacking me seems nasty). Is it possible to change some of them deathtouch mobs and maybe more Rats in the deck? Make it more legend/Rats deck. As you do have a bit of a mana ramp going but those are for basic lands, maybe add more basic lands in the deck in that case as this might help lands like Cinder Glade come into play untapped. Also is Evolution Sage worth looking at? I am trying to do this as a budget deck also as this actually looks quite fun to play. Of course once my Princess Bride cards come in i hope i will have all the other cards ready.

The deck can be built in a number of different ways, which is why it's so intriguing to me. I am not building around rats specifically since Rodents of Unusual Size cannot be tutored for with Buttercup (since it's not legendary), but if you want to do that, I say go for it! I have a Rat Colony deck with Marrow-Gnawer as the commander and it's a lot of fun.
I took out Kodama's Reach, Cultivate, and two of the weaker deathtouch creatures and swapped in Arcane Signet, Ornithopter of Paradise, Three Visits, and Garruk's Uprising. I also took out Valakut Awakening Flip for a basic Mountain and Jwari Disruption Flip for a basic Island. Not only will that improve Myriad Landscape, but it should also help out lands like Canopy Vista and Cinder Glade so they come into play untapped more reliably. Those "Forest" typed lands are also important so I can tutor for the color I need when I draw one of the key green ramp cards: Farseek, Nature's Lore and now Three Visits.

rwn1971 thank you for all your comments and suggestions. I'm glad you are interested in building this same deck. As you test it and find new cards or potential improvements, please keep mentioning them here. As you said in your last post, the deck can most obviously be improved in the mana base. All the decks I have on TappedOut are either already owned by me in paper, or I have plans to buy them in paper down the road (aside from the cEDH decklists, which I 100% proxy). In order to keep buying more decks, I decided long ago to go with budget mana bases, which generally means all of my individual lands are under $5.00, and preferably less than $1.00. I make some exceptions, but for the most part I stick to that rule. Perhaps one day I'll have the financial means to upgrade, but until then I try make the budget lands work. Thanks again for all your input!

Yeah if i decide on shocklands it will probably be just the green mana ones as i am thinking of maybe getting some flip lands or the ones from battlebond which are nice since i usually play at my local store in pods of 3-4.

Legion Loyalist seems like a solid option to give our creatures trample more reliably. Kenrith, the Returned King and Garruk's Uprising also do this, and Gaea's Gift can also work if Odric is out. That's not many options, so adding another seems like a good choice. Kenrith is legendary and can thus be tutored for with Buttercup, so at least we can get him every game if we decide to, but we'll only have so many tutor opportunities before the game ends, so it would be great to draw trample enablers naturally. I'm not sure what I would cut if I were to add Legion Loyalist, but I'll add him to the maybeboard for now.

Another thing I really like about Legion Loyalist is the first strike. Even without Odric, giving first strike and trample to our deathtouch creatures is really powerful. As long as our deathtouch creatures have 2+ power, then the trample damage will carry over to trigger Westley for poison counters (assuming each is blocked by a single creature). For that reason, deathtouch creatures with only 1 power and without a second form of evasion (like flying) are quite a bit weaker. Plus, if we want to go all in on the Odric plan, then having so many creatures with deathtouch is less necessary. That said, I'm still hesitant to remove too many deathtouch creatures as I still want to stay true to my original plan of focusing around Westley, and I would still like him to be functional without Odric on the battlefield.
The next deathtouch creatures potentially on the chopping block for me are Bilious Skulldweller, Deathbloom Gardener, Mirkwood Spider, and Wasteland Viper. All of them are super budget, so I'm not sure I'd want to swap them out for the $5.00 Legion Loyalist right away, but it could be something I do down the road after playing the deck in paper several times. rwn1971, thoughts on what you would cut first?

Wasteland Viper is the most useless of the bunch. Bilious gives us poison, deathbloom gives us mana and mirkwood helps out a legendary creature.

Cutting Wasteland Viper is less straightforward to me. I like that it can be used at instant speed to surprise someone with deathtouch, which could mean causing your unblocked creature to create two poison counters with Westley, or it could mean surprise-killing a creature that your opponent thought was blocking favorably. You could even give deathtouch to an opposing creature, taking out a threat when you're not even involved in the combat. And I like that, in a pinch, the Viper could be used to buff Buttercup's power by 1, which could sometimes be the difference between tutoring for the creature you want or not. Of course, all of those are somewhat niche situations and you have to be holding up the one green mana. And if I had one green mana available, I wonder if I would truly choose to hold it up or to simply put the Viper on the board...
As for Spark Double, it's a generically powerful card so it would never be bad. It would be useful to double up on Reki, the History of Kamigawa for more card draw or Jodah, the Unifier to double his buff, or get a second copy of Shalai, Voice of Plenty so they give each other hexproof. It doesn't do anything for the keyword soup strategy since we only need 1 of each keyword on board, but it could copy Westley to double the poison counter we create, or copy Jegantha for even more mana. There's a lot you could with it. Having two copies of Halana and Alena, Partners could also get crazy, as they could buff each other on each of your combats.
And I like that it even gives itself a +1/+1 counter to synergize with Max! That's probably my favorite part. If it dies while Max is on the battlefield, then it comes back at the next end step and can copy something else (or the same thing if it's still around), and it even enters with another +1/+1 counter so it creates a slow loop that can potentially happen over and over. This one might be too good to pass up, so I'll have to find room for it...
I think it has even come down in price as I swear it used to cost more money. Still not "budget" necessarily but it's a reasonable price for what it does. Thanks for the suggestion!

I would take one of the small deathtouch creatures out for Spark Double as you do have legendary creatures with deathtouch and you can just copy one of them if needed.

rwn1971 I was thinking the same thing. Even before your last comment, I had added Spark Double. As you said, we should hopefully have enough deathouch creatues that we can copy one if we feel we need another (or we can tutor for Westley and then copy him). I took out Deathbloom Gardener as I felt that 3 mana to ramp only 1 turn ahead was too awkard with a 3-mana commander and a companion. Plus if we really need more ramp or color fixing, we can also potentially copy Jegantha or another mana producer like Birds of Paradise or Faeburrow Elder.
I also added Legion Loyalist and swapped out Bilious Skulldweller. I'm just afraid that without evasion the Skulldweller will too often not able to get in and thus the toxic won't matter. Plus, with the budget mana base I am often playing a tapped land on turn 1 to ensure I have an untapped land to play on turn 2 (so we can ramp). I left in Wasteland Viper as I like the versatility and surprise factor too much. Of course, this is based on individual preference, so feel free to do something different with your list.
