rwn1971 I do like Kaya, Geist Hunter for her synergies with both deathtouch and +1/+1 counters. And I like the additional synergies you pointed out with creatures tokens (pulling that off with Hornet Nest seems awesome). She was originally in the list but I cut her due to concerns of being able to protect her as a planeswalker. Ironically, she is stronger now from the standpoint that fewer of our creatures naturally have deathtouch, thus her ability to grant deathtouch to all our creatures is more helpful. However, she is weaker from the standpoint that we have fewer cheap deathtouch creatures that could come down early and dissuade attackers. I probably need to view her more as a finisher where I play her to immediately grant all creatures deathtouch, hopefully after already having a big board with Westley and a way to give everything trample. But then, what would you cut?

It's definitely getting harder to make cuts. Thanks for all your thoughts.

My cut would be Linvala, Shield of Sea Gate . I did do one change already and that is i took out Relic of Legends for Chromatic Lantern . I rather not have a tapped creature especially if i need blockers.

It's probably a meta call. If you find that you don't need as much protection, it makes sense to take out Linvala or Jirina and add something more proactive like Kaya, Geist Hunter. As for the mana rocks, I definitely want Relic of Legends over Chromatic Lantern. I have found in my playtesting that I normally have ways to get all 5 colors, and that will only improve with the two enchant lands we just added, so I don't think the Lantern's effect is necessary. And the Relic can get just silly. If you have at least 4 creatures in play, it will also generate all 5 colors of mana while leaving all your lands available. Plus it taps your legendary creatures (they don't tap themselves) so it gets around summoning sickness. Any creature you cast or tutor for can instantly be tapped for mana that same turn. If you play a 2-drop legendary on turn 2, then this instantly creates two mana on turn 3. On turn 4 we are guaranteed to be able to play Buttercup and get Jegantha into our hand as long as we hit each land drop (or we can even miss a land drop if we play a legendary on turn 2). If you want the Lantern, I would probably cut almost any other ramp source before I cut Relic of Legends.

Remember, if you really need to block you don't need to tap your creatures for mana. And it still taps for one mana of any color in that situation, which puts it on par with the Lantern.

Of course, that's just my opinion. There will inevitably be some games where I wish I had the Chromatic Lantern's effect, but again, if I really wanted to make room for it I would probably cut Utopia Sprawl or Nature's Lore or even Arcane Signet before I cut the Relic because of how crazy the upside is in this deck.

Thoughts on The World Tree ?

I think The World Tree would be a fine include. We're obviously not using its ability, and since it comes into play tapped it's worse than a basic forest until we play our 6th land. I think I normally have all 5 colors available by the time I get my 6th land, so I don't know how helpful this is. Obviously, there will be some games where we are missing colors and we would be happy to see this. And we are relying on creatures to produce some of our colored mana (most notably with Jegantha, but also Birds of Paradise, Ornithopter of Paradise, and others), so a board wipe could also really hurt our ability to hit all the colored pips we need. For now, I don't want to pay $3 or $4 for a tapped land. However, I could see myself putting this card in later if, after playing it against actual opponents, I find it difficult to create all my colors. Again, from my playtesting I find I normally have all the colors, but I also don't have opponents messing with my stuff...

Okay i may or may no have found the planeswalker for this glorious deck Vraska, Swarm's Eminence

Vraska, Swarm's Eminence would have been a nice fit, but it has two mana symbols in common, so it would make Jegantha illegal as a companion. I like your thought process though.

Oh so hybrid colors are a no go....sry never played with companions before :/ .

Hybrid mana is okay as long it has only one of each mana symbol. For example, Nip Gwyllion would be legal, and I'm pretty sure that Daemogoth Woe-Eater would also be legal (because the Black, Green, and hybrid black/green are all distinct mana symbols). Having two identical mana symbols makes a card illegal with Jegantha.

Another interesting thing to note is that Hangarback Walker would also be illegal with Jegantha because the symbol is duplicated.

Thoughts on Rhythm of the Wild ?

November 2, 2023 8:59 p.m.

Darb_the_Bard says... #13

I think Rhythm of the Wild would be a strong include. Giving haste to Buttercup and Jegantha would be very helpful, and I like that it synergizes with +1/+1 counters for Max and our proliferation cards later when haste might become redundant (such as when Inigo and Odric are both out). And it gets even better if you play against a lot of counterspells. I am adding it to the maybeboard for now, but I could see swapping it in for Linvala or Jirina at a later point.

rwn1971 I got mine a few days ago and was also excited about the Command Tower. Hopefully they add the art to TappedOut so I can show it in the online list.

I have played just one game so far, and it was 1-on-1 against my brother. The deck got off to a slow start, especially because he removed Jegantha, and he got me down to literally 2 life. But I had Dynaheir out and was able to then tutor for both Odric and Atraxa at the end step before my turn, and then I attacked for a bunch of lifelink damage to get my life back over 20. At that point he was running on fumes and couldn't make a dent. So on my next turn I tutored for Inigo to give all my guys double strike with Odric and it was game over. It was a lot of fun! Hope you enjoy it.

I know its been awhile but once duskmourn came out i saw these two beauties. Kona, Rescue Beastie works great with this deck and works well with Relic of Legends . The other i would put in is Nashi, Searcher in the Dark . I also if you wish to is take out the Ornithopter and put in Sylvan Caryatid . Having a mana dork with hexproof and at same mana cost is a big upside.

Darb_the_Bard says... #17

Sylvan Caryatid would be a solid add. I've been on the fence with Utopia Sprawl since I don't always have a forest to enchant, so I would likely replace it before I replace Ornithopter of Paradise. I like that the thopter requires no colors up front so I'm guaranteed to be able to play it with any other two mana sources.

But I'm most excited about your Nashi idea. It's two colors for Buttercup, it synergizes great with our legendary theme, it synergizes with our +1/+1 counter subtheme with Miracle Max, and it's another rat for our Rodents of Unusual Size. It's perfect! Thanks for the suggestions!

What would you take out for Nashi? I totally forgot it was a rat.

I'm thinking of removing Legion Loyalist, which can be good (especially with Westley or other deathtouchers) but I have found it is often unnecessary and doesn't have as many synergies as other cards. But what do you think?

October 16, 2024 11:34 p.m.

rwn1971 says... #20

I think you are right. Take out a non legendary for a legendary that benefits more than legion imo.

I am unsure about this one Arbaaz Mir . Your oppinion?

I think it would be too low of an impact for this deck.
