It's kind of a meta call, because there is a guy running Selesnya hexproof at my local store. I am really thorn concerning those two.
On one hand, this hexproof list, pretty hard to race, to be honnest. Desecration Demon helps in that regard, I would like to go up to 3-4 just for this reason.
And on the other hand, versus every other aggresive list, he gets played around ; versus RDW for example, he can't help me stabilize, at all. That's why I use Alms Beast , which completely stops RDW, and pretty much everything aside from these 11/11-hexproof-trample-firststrike-lifelink. Alms Beast has been an AllStar each time it got to touch the board.
I will try with no Lifebane Zombie maindeck and add 1 Desecration Demon and 1 Alms Beast . To be honnest, if there wasn't this hexproof list, I would go all-in on Alms Beast ,

I guess I can see your point with RDW running through Desecration Demon , just sack their creature to tap and attack every turn. I like Lifebane Zombie but he's pure sideboard in my opinion, very effective only against certain decks other than the fact that no matter what you get a peek at their hand. But honestly pretty good setup, would like to see it in action though to really gauge it. How has it done in the matches you've played? You said selensya hexproof has proven tough i know.

It's a little store, so the meta isn't very representative of the field.
To be honnest, Thoughtseize wins by itself a lot of matchups, even RDW. Some times I just open : shock-Thoughtseize , temple-Thoughtseize . I'm at 14 life, but that feels good, knowing you just wrecked your opponent's hand. Removed a Mizzium Mortars , a blast, a Rakdos Cackler a hexproof guy, a Jace, a Revelation anything that bothers you.
First of all, Blood Baron of Vizkopa ruins all white-creatures-based lists. Kind of obvious, but when I drop one, the opponent's face decays, when I drop another, he generally scoops. I would like to say the same for black, but Mono black devotion doesn't rely on attacking with creatures (or does it ?_?)
To stay in the obvious department, Obzedat, Ghost Council does a lot of work against control lists.
Lifebane Zombie has also proven to be pretty sick, even when whiffing. Sometimes, you just get in for 3 damage each turn and the opponent have to find an answer.
Soldier of the Pantheon is AllStar too. He ruins Gruul (Devotion)'s game plan, blocking Burning-Tree Emissary , along with Xenagos, The Reveler 's tokens. He chumpblocks Ruric Thar, the Unbowed , too.
Desecration Demon has been a bit underwhelming in this list. The reason is he's an aggressive creature, and is easily tapped down. When you previously put yourself down to 12-10 life with shocks, Thoughtseize , and Read the Bones , and you can't stabilize with the fat dude, it's awkward.
To fill this purpose, Alms Beast does exceptionnally great. It's black, it's cheap, it's fat, it doesn't get tapped down. It kills opposing dudes at the cost of opponent life. This drawback is actually very hard to notice, when all his guys are dying one after the other, and when you start swinging for 6 each turn. And sometimes, you get to have Erebos, God of the Dead on the board, and then there is no drawback.
I mentionned Read the Bones : I would like to play the full playset, to be honnest. The only moment I am not happy to see it, is when I am at 2 life. Sometimes when losing, and needing an answer to something, I ping myself to 1 life just to dig for an answer. And what a dig, scry 2 + draw 2 is really the best draw engine there is in the current format. Better than... ok... let's say it. Sphinx's Revelation .
Erebos, God of the Dead never really turns into a creature, but that's ok. The draw against contol is huge, and the no-lifegain-for-opponents is huge too. 2 would be too many, so there's 1.
I didn't get to actually play Blind Obedience in this list yet, but it has been very good in previous ones, and RDW being a thing, I like 1.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion is a staple. It right-out wins games. Even when the opponent immediately Downfalls it, well, it burned a removal. I didn't even get to ult her yet.
Whip of Erebos is awesome. It is very underwhelming to revive Blood Baron of Vizkopa , and very overwhelming to revive Obzedat, Ghost Council . The lifelink is very hard to beat. Especially when there are Demons and Beasts in play. Hit you for 18, I gain 18.
Pharika's Cure is awesome against RDW. The temporization is huge, and if you happen to hit Firedrinker Satyr , the game is almost won. It gets sided out most of the time against other matchups. The rest of the removal package is satisfying, too. When there is black, I side out Doom Blade to side in Dark Betrayal .
There is not much Mono black devotion or Mono blue devotion decks where I play. I am not afraid of the blue version, the black version is another story. I have to test it in 1v1 (because in two-headed giant, 6 devotion and Gary drains for 12). I think I'm good, but I really have to test.
There is an esper lock list, with Sphere of Safety , Arrest s, and Pacifism s, which kills with Nightveil Specter and Daxos of Meletis , it is annoying, but can't really do anything to Blood Baron of Vizkopa . There is a casual UB mill list that's becoming stronger and stronger as the guy's switching to a more consistent list. I am not too sure how I feel about this matchup. Sometimes he just Thoughtseize s me, takes away my threats, and then takes his time to mill my other threats. It really can go either way.
I find this list very pleasant to play, but it's kind of expansive when you don't have the cards. I returned to an adaptation of my "old" Dega midrange list for a while, I think I prefer Orzhov. I will try to take notes on the next event so i can try and report it.
Chewrida says... #1
I like, I like, although I feel like you should run 4 desecration demons and just drop alms beast all together. But honestly not bad, pretty good mana curve, and I'm always a fan of thoughtseize. If you want check out the standard I've been running, it's hardly lost a game yet, it's very effective =]
