Enchantment (3)

A deck similar to the ones that Craig Wescoe and Melissa de Tora have used to place in the T16 of recent GP's.

It's pretty straightforward: get a critical mass of tokens, boost them with anthems, and win. Very good against fair decks, it can be slow against combo decks. This is the reason for the rather substantial main deck discard package. Many combo decks are also fought out of the sideboard.

The only real point of contention seems to be the four-drops. A lot of people like to use Hero of Bladehold , but I don't like this choice because it doesn't do anything the turn it comes down. This deck has to race all the time, and spending a turn using four mana to cast something just to see it get killed before it can tap is not something it can afford to do. I chose Elspeth, Knight-Errant over Sorin, Lord of Innistrad because Elly's +3/+3 every turn can't really be overcome by a +1/0 emblem every other turn.

I split first at a big Modern tournament on Sunday, going undefeated in the Swiss to take the top seed going into the elimination rounds. I beat any combination of GBx decks (Jund, Dredgevine, you name it) and a UWR Control deck.

The list I used splashed green to use Deathrite Shaman. I found it wasn't that useful. All it did was give the opponents something useful to bolt, and since there were only three (using 8 fetchlands doesn't really allow for more than that), I never really got to use it much for mana acceleration. I dropped them after the tournament.

So now I'm back to straight BW, particularly after realizing how powerful Auriok Champion can be in some matchups and how ridiculous Zealous Persecution is in pretty much every matchup. I had cut one of each to fit in DRS. I'm happier with this version.

This is slightly different than my older version because it plays all four Path to Exile in the main deck. The third DRS used to be a Gather the Townsfolk, which is just unimpressive. While it could have been a sixth anthem or a fourth Persecution, there are enough creature decks (and particularly Tron decks) in my meta that I didn't think the fourth PtE would be bad at all. Besides, because of all of the Tron, I wanted to fit a third Stony Silence in the sideboard.
