Went to my local LGS for paid FNM, there is about 50 people there.
Round 1- I played a good player there who has been playing there a while. He was running a mono blue mill deck but, it was actually decent matchup for him with his stalls and grindclock,and a playset of jaces. Game1- Easy win, he milled my lingering souls and with an intangible virtue and a honor of the pure it was just too easy. Second game he,side-boarded in Ratchet bombs. This and terminus are the real killer of this deck. I can't see myself losing to much else. Game 2 I was a little slow I had a champion but, no gather the townsfolk while he ramped into Jace and a big grindclock ,and a few other mills . Meanwhile he used a total of THREE Ratchet bombs. I was milled with a Hero of Bladehold on the field and 2 3-3s swinging for lethal next turn. Game three was a complete beatdown. I had 3 intangible virtues and a honor of the pure. With all the tokens being 5/5s he didn't stand a chance.
Round 2---
Round 2 was vs an experienced player who went to gps and SCG opens. He was playing a B/W Sorin control. I lost 0-2. He had Terminus,Ratchet,Bombs,and surprisingly used a curse which gave all my creatures -1/-1. Unfortunately I lost most of my sideboard and it has been reshipped so I didn't have my 3x Purges...Topdecking was awful as well I couldn't get a single angel of jubilation or hero when I needed them most or an Oring when Sorin came in. The biggest kick to the head was when I was at 37 and would have killed him in two-three turns. He top decks sorin brings me to 10,next turn sorin's vengeance's me. The late game in this deck is lacking...but, I still think hero's have an element of explosion to them which can really turn around the game.
Round 3-
Played someone who was knew to magic,they had a round one bye and was 1-1 piloting an event deck. Game one wasn't close at all. I beat him with three lands and spirit tokens. This was definitely a new player,he would trade with doomed travelers when I had intangible virtues out.
Game2- He had some early stalling ,with me not drawing honor of the pure but, Intangible Virtue + HeroOfBladehold+VaultoftheArchangel changes games.
By round 4 I was 2-1 in rounds and 4-3 in matches.
Round 4- I am not going into detail . My binder was almost stolen,LUCKLY I got it back ,honestly my head was not there. It was verse zombie pod with a splash of green for thragatusk and my lack of organized sideboard really killed me. It went to game three which I lost on a mulligan to five. He beat me by Phyrexian Metamorphing his Falkenrath Aristocrat...Sadly I had a skinrender in hand which I couldn't play because I missed my fourth land drop for Three turns. In my opinion I feel my opponent had a part to play in this as well, he rushed me after my first mulligan , complaining when i wanted to do a pile shuffle and I think if this was a big event this wouldn't have happened. I think this was a factor in my lack of lands.Looking back on it when we went into game 2 he shuffled and said"I just want to make sure there are no clumps." There were clumps then he shuffled again. I didn;t notice this because this was my first FNM in over a year and a half and I was "riding high " so to speak being up 1-0 and about to win 3-4 packs :)
