just a reminder Bone Splinters is sorcery... You can't swing and them use it to sac. (this is from the desc btw)

How about Ondu Cleric to gain faster life, I think it's a faster way to gain life, isn't it? With 2 Felidar Sovereign your draw probability isn't soo good... Ever thought about using Diabolic Tutor? So you could search after your win condition card? I think a card like Ghostway or Cloudshift would also be a good addition to trigger and incrase your life, to draw cards I found some solutions like To Arms! or Niveous Wisps so you can draw a card and get a positive effect too.

Aless55, thank you for the input. Once this deck cycles out into modern, I will definitely give that a thought. Right now this deck has been crafted for Standard :)

If you would go over budget and add some Gideons in here, what will you drop for him? Or do you think Gideon will be unnecessary here even if costs $0.01?

HunterEste says... #5

Gideon would certainly be a boon to the deck, if he wasn't $35+ currently I'd drop the 2 Sovereigns for 2 Gideons. A free Ally token per turn would be amazing, it would fuel the Healers, they'd be cannon fodder blockers/attackers to fuel cutthroat when they die, they'd be easy targets to use reaps or bone splinters on, etc etc.

As he is right now, however; adding those two would blow the budget out of the water.

Do you think Retreat to Emeria would be beneficial in this deck?

November 24, 2015 1:09 p.m.

thefuzz187 says... #10

Retreat to Emeria does not work. When I tested it, I never played it. Turn 4 or 5 you want to get Bloodbond Vampire out, then double down on the 1 and 2 mana creatures to trigger Kalastria Healer thus triggering Bloodbond Vampire. Once an there is an opening to play Retreat to Emeria most of your mana is out.

It does not fall under the budget build but a 4 drop to kick in the triggers is Gideon.

retreat to ameria would work thoug hsince your putting in an ally which triggers kalastrias ability

How about adding Ondu Rising. It's cheap and you'll trigger the life gain effects with every creature you attack.

HunterEste Hey I'm doing a deck build very similar to yours and was wondering if you had any advice on how I could work in Sorin, Lord of Innistrad and Sorin, Solemn Visitor? Or do you perhaps know a planeswalker that works well with this deck? I'm new to this and looking to build something strong. But I really like the synergy you have in this deck.

HunterEste Also just curious on what your thoughts were on this do you think trading out Altar's Reap for Angelic Gift work work well in this deck? or even going half/half. Creatures would be able to attack without being able to be blocked without flying or reach and still have card drawing.

thefuzz187 says... #15

Akrylios I have been thinking about Ondu Rising but with Lantern Scout triggers with any other ally, almost seams like a waste.

Trupianom 45% of the time I play Altar's Reap is for blocking, sac. 45% of the time play it with March from the Tomb in hand with and Kalastria Healer on board, 10% of the time hoping to get a March from the Tomb. I run 3 Altar's reap, but thinking about cutting to two and running 1 or 2 Read the Bones

Trupianom, I like reap more because the sacrifice triggers triggers the Cutthroat and provides more fodder to pull from the graveyard with March from the Tomb

HunterEste Thanks for the reply. Yeah I just been learning more about the game lately. So I didn't really know which creatures you would usually use Altar's Reap on. Also I ended up getting Read the Bones to try out. If I end up spending the money I'm going to work Gideon, Ally of Zendikar into the deck since he seems to synergize well with this deck.

Hello I love this archtype and your deck is the most solid I've seen so far. I will be putting together a list similar to this, especially once my WB warriors rotate I'll be doing WB allies or vampires (SOI).

My only suggestion is that you are missing the single best ally card, and I'm not talking about Gideon. Why don't you run any Drana, Liberator of Malakir? I know she's not the cheapest, but she is still very affordable. At 6.50 on TCGplayer you can pick up 3 for cheaper than one Gideon. I would definitely recommend stretching the budget a little and get her in this deck. Sure she doesn't gain you life, but she hits like a truck if you get her down on curve and especially since you have so many fliers to pump for essentially free damage if they can't block (many standard decks are lacking fliers ATM).

I would cut the Felidars, and probably one cutthroat. Honestly cutthroats don't combo well with the serene steward/Drana approach and the altar reaps as well. Personally I would also drop another Cutthroat and a Serene Steward for another new OGW card,Ayli, Eternal Pilgrimx2! She is a minor nonbo since she isn't an ally, but everything else about her is perfect for this deck. An amazing body 2/3 deathtouch for WB. Amazing ability with the Sac outlet and life gain. And her second ability is sooooo relevant in this deck as you should have no problem hitting 30 life. Then you are getting the exiles for cheap, with built in card advantage since you combo March from Tomb so well.

The last OGW card I'm very excited for (I am BW Warrior tribal though) is the new Kalitas. He's a strong option at the 4 spot for you, but I think you're probably correct in running the Cliffhaven Vampires.

My only other suggestion would be checking your manager base, especially if you add Drana and Ayli you might want to drop the colorless land. Running only 20 lands I have a hard time seeing you wanting to sacrifice it for some life gain. Same with Altars Reap. With Ayli and Bone Splinters (and also dropping 2 cutthroats- or keep them and drop Serene Steward as with 20 lands I'm not sure how often you'll use her ability) you don't need more sac outlets. In this case I think the Scry 2 on Read the Bones becomes more relevant.

Anyways that is my best advice, but it looks like a solid deck already. I just can't tell you how good Drana has been for me at FNM, she can win games on her own.

have you been playing this deck at tournaments? has it been working out for you?

have you thought about replacing alters reap for foul tongue shriek? it's won me a few games with surprise damage.

I just want to +1 this deck, too... But second TrackerD's comments about Drana. I've been lucky enough to pull 4 - the 4th in my OGW Pre-Rel... I made a Ltd Ally deck, and she pulls her weight!I've not seen Ayli in action, but she does look good...I'll be building a slightly more expensive version of this deck for my next Standard FNM!Gideon, Ayli and Drana! VAMPS FOR THE WIN!

And next plane is Innistrad... MORE VAMPS!!!

Thanks for the suggestion, Drana has dropped in price, I will look into working her into the next version of the deck. I'm also very excited for Innistrad and will be making another B/W budget deck hopefully themed around vampires again :)

I know you're not a fan of adding pre-Zendikar cards to the deck, but how would Sorin, Solemn Visitor do in this deck?

January 28, 2016 11:05 a.m.

HunterEste says... #24

I don't think he would hurt....but for a 4 drop he doesn't add a lot of flavor for allies. If that vampire he summoned was a 'ally' then I'd be all for him(yes, I'm a theme fanbaby). The +1/+0 and lifelink would be nice though....good suggestion! Thank you for it :)

I was in the process of racking my brain for a Oath updated BW Vampires drain deck, then I found this. Excellent advice in rounding out my deck! Nice and budget too leaving room for more expensive upgrades on my own. Thanks for this!

I was thinking of putting in Kalitas even though it's not an ally for those tokens, life link, and a sac outlet, but then that price shot up before I could claim a playset :( Vampires are in with Innistrid (that was bad I know)!
