Thanks for the advice. I've definitely been considering exchanging Banishing Light for Utter End. Its CMS is one less and the odds of an opponent running Erase is smaller than them running Glare of Heresy. And you're right, local meta does play a big part. From what I've seen at my LGS my biggest competition is RDW and token generators like Goblin Rabblemaster and Brimaz, King of Oreskos. That's why I've made speed and Bile Blight so important. There are also a lot of Abzan Midrange players, but most of them lack and expensive mana base, giving me the opportunity to kill them before they even get started.

Have you ever thought of running Rush of Battle, its a high cmc for it's effect i know but it can steal games against oppenents who aren't expecting it. PS. I am also trying to build a B/W Warrior deck and it is similar to this one! Keep up the good work!

I have thought of that card and I know it has synergy with a warrior deck, but it's just not good enough to be competitive. It has a high cmc, it's a sorcery instead of an instant, and its effect isn't permanent. Brutal Hordechief and Sorin, Solemn Visitor are much better 4 drops.

I would definitely look into Arashin Foremost, it's great for your 3 slot on your curve and it's something you're never sad to topdeck into, it even provides a win condition on the turn you drop it if it's turn 4 or 5 and it lets you get a turn 4 kill even more consistently. Still, with it being 1WW and your main color is black, I would only run it as a 2 or 3 of.

One question; Why run Seeker of the Way there are only 12 cards that trigger it?

March 9, 2015 5:49 p.m.

PhantomWang says... #6

@Lord Yeah I'm definitely adding Arashin Foremost to this deck. The only reason she's not in there yet is because DTK hasn't been released.

@C4X2 I run Seeker of the Way to help trigger Battle Brawler's ability. When I face a deck with tokens I swap Seeker of the Way out for Chief of the Scale. I realize there's only 12 cards that can trigger Seeker of the Way, but that 3 power with lifelink is really valuable. Plus when I face control decks I sub out some creatures for spells, increasing the chance of triggering his ability.

Blood-Chin Rager.

Why are you not using 4 of the BEST TRIBAL WARRIOR?

I second 4x Blood-Chin Rager, it is so damn useful.

I would also recommend at least a couple of Arashin Foremost, this card is simply a beast, and when comboed with any 3 attack minion it will give you a way to trade favourable with Siege Rhino and other OP minions.

Obelisk of Urd is a bit slow for a warrior deck, Spear of Heliod is a much better choice I feel.

Herald of Dromoka is a good option for sideboard, but bad for main imo. You basically want to be very aggressive in game 1, siding out for things like herald and Chief of the Scale versus aggro decks. If you are the aggressive deck then these cards will only slow you down.

I also feel that if you want to run so many creatures then you either need to protect them with a spell like Ajani's Presence or have a way to bring them back like Return to Ranks. Alternatively you could go for additional card draw with Raiders' Spoils. Your deck is very midrange and therefore it needs some way to recover/protect from boardwipes.

Lastly 5 x removal is a bit light, but I only run 6 in main myself so I can't really talk. Here is my deck for comparison: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/24-03-15-bw-warriors-again/

Haha, that's funny because this deck was running Return to Ranks and Raiders' Spoils before I updated it for DTK. I was running Herald of Dromoka over extra copies of Blood-Chin Rager to help trigger Battle Brawler's ability. I like Spear of Heliod and Arashin Foremost, but the double-white mana cost makes them undesirable in my opinion. I just tweaked the deck. Do you think I should've upped Sorin, Solemn Visitor to 2, or added another removal spell?

I would make Battle Brawler a 2 of as well as Brutal Hordechief and then add in 2x Seeker of the Way for colour fixing.

I really think you should consider Arashin Foremost strongly, it is the card that might make B/W Warriors a tier 1 deck. Double strike is just so damn good, without it I think you will struggle to overcome Abzan's OP minions.

I would definately add one more removal card, Hero's Downfall should do the trick.

Hmm, I suppose I could take out 1 Battle Brawler and 1 Brutal Hordechief for 2 Arashin Foremost. I used to run Seeker of the Way for color fixing, but with the little amount of instants I'm running it would make more sense to just plug in Chief of the Scale instead.

i would cut the last two hordechiefs for two more Arashin Foremost the card is just so good when it is pumped with lords

The removal you want is Ultimate Price and Murderous Cut.

Downfall is too expensive and heavy on black. You dont really need it to kill walkers, so focus on creatures you must kill: Polukranos, Stormbreath, Rhino.

In the new Meta UP will sink most of their ships, and its VERY cost efficient.

Murderous Cut is good, but I don't like having it in my mulligan in a deck with no discard ability. Ultimate Price is excellent, but I'm not sure whether it belongs in main or side, as I think Valorous Stance is overall better (In game 1) as it doubles as protection. Bile Blight too is a no brainer, it can excellent value at times.

Have you tried Whip of Erebos? That thing makes me win games.

March 30, 2015 10:18 p.m.

PhantomWang says... #16

Eh, I feel like Whip of Erebos is more midrange. With warriors you're trying to win by turn 4/5.

I see you're running 4 Duress in your sideboard. I would swap out one or two of them for a Despise or two. The Despise would help get rid of a bigger creature threat on later turns if you have open black mana, or perhaps turn one to throw off an aggro player by stealing a one-drop. If you have the money, then obviously pulling them all out for 4 Thoughtseize would be ideal if you aren't worried about the life loss.

Have you thought about Hidden Dragonslayer? prolly as a side board, but having a warrior who can double as removal is extremely useful, plus he as lifelink which can help if youre playing against an agro deck to keep that life total up

April 1, 2015 12:23 p.m.

PhantomWang says... #19

Eh, I'm not a fan of morphing. It's just too slow. And the way my removal is setup, Bile Blight and Valorous Stance can remove almost any creature, except Stormbreath Dragon

April 1, 2015 12:47 p.m.

Drask47 says... #20

the major benefit of morphing though is that it does NOT use the stack, which means there is no way for person to respond/counter it or attempt to save their creature with buffs, and even tho its some what slower than a normal removal spell, the benefit is that it is also a body. I mean it may not be the right card for the deck, but you should play around with it and see what happens, cause being an extra body as well as it being independent of the stack makes it very valuable

Cactusman says... #21

Maybe throw in an Ultimate Price for the Stormbreath?

shinobigarth says... #22

you need Dragon Hunter at least in SB man, so many dragons floating around and he kicks em all in the teeth

April 1, 2015 1:12 p.m.

PhantomWang says... #23

True, I definitely like Dragon Hunter, just not sure what to swap out for him. And I don't want to replace Mardu Woe-Reaper with him.

April 1, 2015 1:30 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #24

personally i would take out Shadowspear for it if you don't wanna take out Woe Reaper (though i would SB Woe Reaper). i don't think Shadowspear does enough outside of like 2HG, the 1 extra life loss per attack isn't really worth it when you can instead have a super solid blocker for a good portion of the current meta.
