One warrior that I've been thinking about playing is Mardu Hateblade. With so many big midrange decks going around, do we think we need him?

Kettleback, why not just Coat with Venom instead?

This deck is pretty sweet ad is really. Think I'd rather see 1x Athreos in the main over Sorin, but that's just about it. solid

As* is, not ad is. Sorry

i don't think Hateblade is needed. if you have enough removal, do you need something that gives deathtouch? don't forget a lot of the big creatures are dragons and Dragon Hunter has them on lockdown all day erry day. he might not be able to kill them unless you have a lot of stuff pumping his power, but at least they can't get through him until they answer him. i don't know if giving him Coat with Venom would be necessary or not, but maybe worth thinking about.

Yeah maybe not Mardu Hateblade cause he can't deal with flying, but Dragon Hunter with Coat with Venom would be a sweet combo. The problem with me personally is that my local meta is full of either R/W Aggro or B/U Control. Hopefully more of them will switch to dragons after this latest release.

Ninety Fish That's a good point, I've actually decided to run 1 x Hidden Dragonslayer to test the card on in my next FNM. A couple of these hybrid creature/removal cards could be really useful I feel.

shinobigarth I agree that Mardu Hateblade is probably a bad choice, but the problem with Dragon Hunter is that he doesn't counter the most common dragon Stormbreath Dragon. Generally speaking you'll want the match near to over by the time the bigger dragons start hitting the field, this is the one that would pose a threat, and it happens to be the only one that Dragon Hunter can't handle.

While Stormbreath Dragon has protection from white, Dragon Hunter has protection from dragons. So if you block with Dragon Hunter wouldn't they just cancel each other out for no damage? I mean sure, Dragon Hunter can't kill Stormbreath Dragon, but you can still nullify one of their biggest threats for one mana.

PhantomWang he can't even block SBD. in fact they can't block each other. but Ultimate Price is a good way to deal with SBD though.

Oh dang, I didn't realize that. I'm a newer player so that's good to know. I definitely need to sideboard Ultimate Price then. Just gotta figure out what to remove lol.

To whoever say that crap dragon boy is better than Hoe-man:

Guess what deck is in the real meta? Your right, whips and Delvers. Lets exile those fuckers.

shinobigarth says... #12

jsansoldo thats why you can have both, or one in the SB depending on your meta. but remember whip decks are going away this fall.

One card that I'd like to discuss is Hidden Dragonslayer. I am running one of these guys as a test, but I really like the versatility this card offers. It has 2 primary uses as far as I can tell:

1) Play it as a 2/1 with lifelink for 2. The weaker option, but it can be useful for activating Battle Brawler.

2) Play it morphed for 3 and turn it up for 3. So for 6 mana you get a 3/2 with lifelink and essentially a Valorous Stance

Now either way you use it the card seems a tad overpriced, but I really like the flexibility it affords you. Thoughts?

I'm not a big fan, but Hidden Dragonslayer is definitely sideboard material. He would be useful against Abzan Midrange or a Devotion deck. I just dont't think he has a place in this deck.

That's not a bad shout, I think I would only ever run 1 max but I am curious to see if his flexibility pays off. My warrior deck is primarily based around Return to the Ranks so he fits in with my game plan nicely.

Foul-Tongue Shriek any useful ?

April 3, 2015 12:19 p.m.

PhantomWang says... #18

It could be, but as an aggro deck you really want to be maximizing your mana for the first couple turns. So by the time Foul-Tongue Shriek would be useful, say turn 4, you should be playing Brutal Hordechief which has the exact same effect.

April 3, 2015 12:28 p.m.

cplvela0811 says... #19

This is true, however you could stack 2 Foul-Tongue Shriek, on the same turn or even play an Arashin Foremost with the excess 3 mana available. Just some food for thought.

looks cool man, check out my deck for more ideas if you'd like but they are pretty similar. swap Athreos, God of Passage for Mardu Strike Leader much better value especially when swinging with lots of creatures.

Just strolling while looking for good additions to my own B/W Warriors list. One thing I have been trying out is Secure the Wastes. The card is great as an instant speed follow-up on a sweeper. On MTGO, it happens quite often that an opponent attacks with all his creatures at 8 life after he cleared my board, only to see me end-step 4 1/1 Warriors followed by a pre-combat Brutal Hordechief. Secure the Wastes made me stop running Mardu Strike Leader all together. Its also fun to make a few white 1/1's during combat to make your blocking Battle Brawler have first-strike unexpectedly.Great deck, +1

I would second what pcvogel has said about Secure the Wastes. It can be even better when used in a combo with Coat with Venom.

The other card that I think could be worthwile is Butcher's Glee. With Arashin Foremost on the board, this could mean minimum 10 dmg swing, with lifelink, 5 damage of first strike AND creature regeneration. Feel free to check out my list for ideas: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/08-04-15-Whf-orzhov-warriors/

What to do vs Blue/Black control decks that do nothing but remove all your creatures and tries to mill as a win condition?
