Sideboard

Midrangy threats with innate protection. Chavest at it's best, making control hate life :D

Now for our deck breakdown thingy that we all love

CREATURES

Aurelia, the WarleaderOne of the best finishers in standard IMO, but not necessary in order to win. Between it's role as a backup play, and it's legendary status I currently have it at one copy only.

Blood Baron of VizkopaOh my god I love tis card :D It helps me stabilize after an aggro earlygame, the mirror's only out is a possible elspeth if they run it. Vs america this deck absolutely kicks ass, as well as against Esper. It's last ability is more of a threat than anything, but what a wonderful threat it is.

Fiendslayer PaladinI hate RDW. I hate the deck with a burning passion. I hate mono black. I hate it with a burning passion. What hoses both? Fiendslayer. Red has a hard time dealing with it, their removal is useless and their little X/2s can't deal with it. Mono black relys on it's removal. No removal? No deck.

Desecration DemonOne of the biggest midgame threats in the game, most decks need to answer this or find a way to feed it as soon as it comes down or else it's GG. Also, this card has amazing synergy with Aurelia, as she allows deso demon to dodge it's "downside".

Obzedat, Ghost CouncilThese colors have too many fun midrange cards, seriously. This guy is NUTS with Whip of Erebos, helps me stabilize, helps trigger Blood Baron, dodges a significant amount of removal, and is a 5/5 beater in a pinch. This beast has won me games.

High Priest of PenanceBasically a 2-drop Boros Reckoner in spirit. The opponent is now unwilling to attack becasue their best card is gonna die. Not their best guy, mind you. Their best CARD. That means screw off, Assemble the Legion. Elspeth. Detention Sphere. The list goes on.

Stormbreath DragonWow. Big Dragon. Much Danger. A 4/4 hasteing flier is nothing to laugh at for 5 mana, but his pro-white effect is very relevant in my meta, infested with Red/White aggro and America, and his monsterous effect eats sphinx's rev decks for breakfast. It also allows him to block desecration demon, not an easy task.

SORCERIES

Dreadbore and, for ease's sake, Hero's DownfallAfter going back and forth on these 2 cards, I came to a realization, that a split would be best. So I spent a week devoted to finding a good split. A 4-2 Dreadbore-Downfall seems to be the best. Downfall is 100x better in the situations where it's better, and dreadbore is twice as good in the situation it's better. HOWEVER, the situations where Downfall is better is less common than Dreadbore being better. Generally, I only NEED to use downfall over Dreadbore once a game. This lead me to the ration I currently run.

Anger of the GodsMy main out for aggro. Openning this and the mana to play it means I can usually out-race aggro decks. Combined with that it doesn't harm most of my creatures makes it a nice little one-sided board wipe, especially when paired up with Mizzium Mortars.

Duressdentalflosstycoon and TheGodofNight convinced me on this card over Thoughtseize. I run a total of 11 removal cards. 95% of the time, the card I want to remove is a non-creature, usually a Jace, Revelations, or a Thoughtseize. The few times where I'd need to remove a creature don't outweigh the 2 life cost imo, which has made a difference in more games than being able to remove a creature would have been.

Mizzium MortarsOne of very few cards commonly played that can permanently answer Blood Baron of Vizkopa, as well as being a field wipe? I'll take a few. However, I have other cards that do the same jobs better; Dreadbore does the 2 mana removal and Anger of the Gods does the field wipe stuff. It's a 2 of in here for the versatility.

Rakdos's ReturnThis card absolutely wrecks Midrange, I'll generally wait until I can remove their entire hand, then pummel them with threats that they no longer have the capability to defend against.

THE REST OF THE DECK

Underworld ConnectionsA useful little advantage engine, and comes in super useful vs Control, but I don't want to draw multiples, and it's pretty awful vs Aggro. Those reasons, on top of it being somewhat mana intensive restrict it to being a One-of in my opinion. Still a great card :D

Magma JetsI love me a multi-use card. Removal and Draw Control in a neat little 2 mana instant speed package? Space is the only thing keeping me from maxing out on it.

Chandra, Pyromaster I have heard the debate between Underworld Connections and Read the Bones ever since theros came out. Yet there's a 3rd option. Chandra's 0 effect does a thing very similar to both, while also providing a source of damage and soft removal. Awwwwwww yea.

Last, but not least...

Rakdos KeyrunePossibly my favorite card in this entire deck. As the majority of my threats are in the 5-drop slot, this card accelerates them to turn 4 perfectly, it's a 3/1 First striker for 2 mana that dodges removal, and that flavor text. Srsly. This little devil has won me more games than Blood Baron or Stormbreath. Also, multi-use.

All comments and fixes are highly welcome, I'm constantly looking for ways to make this deck better. If there's any confusion over any of my card choices, ask and I'll do my best to come up with a mildly comprehensive answer.

Okey, I'm gonna talk about a card. Spirit Bonds. I LOVE This card with Obzedat, or whip. It is simply amazing. So 4 of them are going in, and in an effort to make the deck more creature-centric, I'm switching over from Duress to Sin Collector, as with a spirit bond, it might not be as low of a drop as Thoughtseize, but it can be whipped to get a gitaxan probe-esque effect, and it triggers Spirit Bonds. Because that's what's really important.
