vault skirge is a strange choice. i would recomend scrapheap scrounger over him, but everything else looks great!

Scrapheap Scrounger is probably going to take the place of Avatar. Vault Skirge does a number of things, though it's possible they don't add up to enough.

-it's almost always a colourless one-drop that costs two life, so make sure to evaluate it that way
-evasive
-lifelink helps get back the life I'm spending on lands
-wears equipment really well, due to aforementioned lifelink and evasion
-counts as two card types for delirium (relevant on a couple of creatures)

that is true i forgot that this would get played as a one drop

Really, really dig that list. Not many gb decks around in HL formats.

Suggestions: What about Master of the Feast and/or Sylvan Advocate?

I'm not a huge fan of AEther Vial and perhaps you might consider replacing Dryad Militant as he is pain to delirium.

Went 3-1 the second time I took this out, definitely has some viability as a list. As a note, I was borrowing a Bayou and a Tarmogoyf, the later of which didn't come up but the former was quite nice.

Master of the Feast is a big maybe, as the extra card draw for the opponent is tough at best and disastrous at worst. Sylvan Advocate would be very mediocre in this list as it very rarely gets to 6 mana, and as a 2/3 for 3 it's just ok.

Dryad Militant is important for the storm and blue matchups, and the low instant and sorcery count in this deck means it doesn't punish me very much.

I'm definitely going to cut Hidden Herd and maybe Mayor of Avabruck  Flip. I think Green Sun's Zenith and possibly Brain Maggot are coming in.

I would recommend Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip in this deck seems like it would work well

Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip is already in the list.

Some testing notes:

Hidden Herd turned out to be bad and has been cut. Just far too easy for my opponent to play around.

Managorger Hydra was just lackluster. Does work in the UG tempo deck, but not here.

Mayor of Avabruck  Flip is too slow. On a related note, I've swapped Tormented Hero with Vampire Lacerator because the random human tribal elements are now gone.

Ended up cutting Gurmag Angler as three delve spells is too many in this deck. I do like the card, but I think it's the weakest of the three in this version.

For these cards I've brought in Varolz, the Scar-Striped (the 1 mana for 2 +1/+1 counters off of scavenge is real tempting), Brain Maggot (I wish I had even more hand attack), Kitchen Finks (those mono-red decks are a real bummer) and Green Sun's Zenith (this is just a good card).

Upcoming points changes are dropping Strip Mine from 3 points to 2, so my new loadout is going to be Mox Jet, Mox Emerald, Umezawa's Jitte and Strip Mine (presuming I can get my hands on a Mox Emerald, which I am pretty happy about. Might try and jam Chrome Mox in as well to just speed things up even more.

There's some exciting cards spoiled for Aether Revolt, and I might try and make a "counters matter" theme work in this deck.

You should definitely find room for Mind Twist. The card just does such a good job of shutting opponents down. Plus, you're only at 8 points, and twist is still only a 1-pointer

January 3, 2017 1:46 p.m.

Sharkfists says... #10

I've played a lot of Mind Twist before, and it is barely better than Mind Rot in decks like this. You just never have enough mana to get more than a couple of cards, and you never have time to take a turn off. In a midrange or control deck it's great, but not here.

Plus, I'm going up to 10 points after Strip Mine goes down to 2.

Slivex1337 says... #11

Definitely like your changes. Gurmag Angler fits more in that midrange kind of deck I think.

You should try Shizo, Death's Storehouse, as an nearly unblockable Tasigur, the Golden Fang or Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip might be relevant. Besides, I don't get the point why there is Mutavault in the list and no Mishra's Factory?!

I'm excited for the changes coming with Aether Revolt. Keep it up :)

January 6, 2017 10:44 a.m.

Sharkfists says... #12

Shizo, Death's Storehouse is a very interesting suggestion, will definitely consider it. Mishra's Factory vs Mutavault is a very close call. I decided that I didn't want too many colourless lands, as there are still a few key lands out of the landbase that I am missing, and the more consistent the deck is the better. I opted for Mutavault because of synergies with Gravecrawler and Pack Rat, but it's very close.

Aether revolt wishlist (some may not be good, but interested in testing): Greenwheel Liberator, Gifted Aetherborn, Fatal Push, Winding Constrictor. (If I go the Winding Constrictor route, will definitely try and jam Reyhan, Last of the Abzan and maybe Avatar of the Resolute in.)

I see you have Life/Death in your maybe board. i would recommend putting that in, also if you're running Varolz, the Scar-Striped i would recommend Death's Shadow

January 9, 2017 8:50 p.m.

Sharkfists says... #14

I don't think Death's Shadow is good enough on it's own to warrant playing it for such a small chance of drawing both. The chance of drawing both of them in even the first 20 cards is sub-5%.

Cut Rakshasa Deathdealer for Chrome Mox. The death-dealer and Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip both require holding up a fair bit of mana to make them worth it. Might just cut the latter for another land.

Swapped Vampire Lacerator for Carrion Feeder. I really like the small edges of utility the latter provides, and I find it takes minimal work to make it on the same power level as a 2-power 1 drop.

January 11, 2017 3:07 p.m.

Slivex1337 says... #16

I really do like the Chrome Mox here and I agree that Rakshasa Deathdealer and Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip are not ideal if you want to go for the maximum tempo route. Whatsoever, Mesmeric Fiend and/or Brain Maggot do not hit hard enough as well. I'd say it's better to cast a 2-mana threat that might be removed than a 2-mana 1-power guy stealing one removal but dealing no damage. I'd suggest bringing in Bloodghast and/or Shriekmaw, especially when playing with Carrion Feeder and Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip. Besides, you might probably think about cutting the two swords, as they are pretty damn slow.

Just some thoughts and ideas from my side.

January 12, 2017 5:21 p.m.

Sharkfists says... #17

I'd love to bring in Bloodghast, but I don't own one yet. Shriekmaw is interesting as I hadn't considered the lili interaction, but it's slow as heck on its own. I rarely get to 5 mana, and as a two mana kill spell it's pretty bad compared to my other options.

The swords are a bit slow, but I've won a lot of games on their back.

I waffle a lot on Mesmeric Fiend/Brain Maggot. I really want more good hand attack in this deck, and they at least wear equipment well/get in for damage. Combo is a very big part of the meta, and hand attack is my only real way of interacting with it. Combo decks are often just faster than this deck if left unchecked. They have been the ones I cut when I borrow Tarmogoyf from a friend, though.

What are your thoughts on Narnam Renegade and Greenwheel Liberator? I've settled on this archetype for my first canlander deck and they seem like they should be good but I'm not quite sure about triggering revolt.

January 30, 2017 9:42 a.m.

Sharkfists says... #19

I'm definitely going to pick up those two and jam them to see if they are any good. Narnam Renegade slipped past me when I was looking over the set, but it seems like a better version of Skyshroud Elite (which I've had enough opponents play around to reconsider), and Greenwheel Liberator seems like a good cheap alternative to Tarmogoyf that also plays with the counters-matter theme.

Hitting revolt is going to be easier once I get the two fetches I'm missing, and it does up the value of having free sac outlets like Carrion Feeder and Varolz, the Scar-Striped. Maybe I'll even bring out my old friend Flesh Carver.

Would something like Aluren work in this deck, or would it be too slow

April 15, 2017 9:53 p.m.

Sharkfists says... #21

Aluren would be pretty bad in a deck like this--by the time I've gotten to 4 mana, I've already deployed all of my threats. It's much more likely to give my opponent an advantage than me.

ok i see. i wasnt sure just quite how fast this deck is.
