Welcome aboard the Skyship Weatherlight , where the leadership of Captain Sisay forged the finest crew.

This competitive commander deck emerged as a result of the countless hours of piloting this deck in my local meta followed by a continuous process of finetuning together with several dedicated users of T/O.

Her crew knew many forms before it became the crew that we know of today. There are many different crews out there doing what they like most, but I'm confident that this crew will please you most when you want to be the dominant force in your local playgroup: Combo to the win or stax them when the route fails. Beware though;

you will eventually be hunted for playing a cEDH Captain Sisay deck!

General Deck Information Show

Reading this decklist

I made custom categories to give you the best view of how the deck has been assembled and balanced. Balance is essential when it comes to competitive play, a process that will never stop as new cards and sets see the light.

The following categories are currently present:

- Land : A well balanced amount of land, based on the amount of ramp and utility it needs to bring

- Draw : Even though we do not really need lots of extra draw possibilities, these cards are still very important in the deck.

- Ramp : Ramp is key in the opening turns of this deck. We need to find them to dominate and finish this fast after the start of the game

- WinCons : The key cards of the game finishing combo routes explained in the primer

- Removal : Great removal options which are a true staple or can be found be Sisay herself

- Stax : While we are lions, there are still some cases in which we have to dress like a sheep...

- Support : Several support cards to support your game when things don't go as planned

- Protection : Protecting Sisay from targeted removal is vital early game. These cards bring this to your board

- Tutor : Much needed help for Sisay, as she can't find them all by herself. Some even speed up Sisay herself

Deck colors

Playing with Captain Sisay gives us access to many powerful cards and lots of ramp options.

Having primarily for ramp and mainly for removal/stax gives us enough 'tools' to pave the way for an aggresive style of play.

Playing this version of a competitive Captain Sisay deck enables brutally fast infinite game finishers and a stax backup plan when things go the other way.

Deck strengths

This build has been optimized for an aggressive combo style of play. We want to outpace our opponents with plenty of mana, serious early game infinite combo routes and a stax backup plan in case things didn't go as planned.

An optimzed amount of dedicated ramp cards present in this build gives us a solid and consistent opening hand to outpace the opponents; giving us access to Captain Sisay in turn 2 or turn 3 easily.

Overall deck strenghts:

- A consistant opening hand to outpace your opponents

- Access to brutal combo-wincons within 3/4 turns!

- Access to a diverse package of stax cards in case the game turns this way

- Answers to nearly every threat that you will face during your games

- Alternative tutor possibilities to reach cards which can not be found by Captain Sisay

- The ability to recover from world effects faster than the mayority of your opponents

- And last, but not least; card advantage! Lots of card advantage!!

Deck weaknesses

Earlygame you are pretty much depending on your commander doing her activated trick. If your opponents manage to deal with Captain Sisay or Paradox Engine in the form of targeted removal earlygame, you could be in a world of hurt. A simple Counterspell or Swords to Plowshares can stall your game just long enough for your opponents to keep up with you.

Another troubling card can be Cyclonic Rift . Especially when cast for the overload cost, cause it won't hurt the battlefield of the one who casted this menace. But obviously, when you are playing a decent hand, his overload cost should still be far far away when you combo out to seal the deal.

The Strategy Show

General strategy

Your objective is out outpace your opponents from the start of the game and finish them with a combo route in turn 3/4. A decent opening hand includes at LEAST one dedicated ramp card like a mana rock, dork or mana tutor. Given the right starting hand you could land Sisay on turn 2, which is something pretty common in this build. After she has landed you can start your card advantage and keep pushing forward for the kill. Having nonland ramp support in the first two turns is an important fact for achieving the aggresive start this deck wants to see!

Setting up the Combo

Setting up the combo requires Captain Sisay on the battlefield, being able to tap her and float mana in the process.

Your first 2 opening turns should be played having the possibility to ramp for mana, preferably twice!. If you lack the option to ramp, you should take a mulligan!

When Captain Sisay is on the battlefield and doens't suffer from summoning Sickless (anymore), you should open like this:

1.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Paradox Engine

2.) Cast Paradox Engine , followed by a cheap spell to untap all nonland permanents.

3.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Mox Amber . Float remaining mana and cast Mox Amber to untap all nonland permanents.

4.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Mox Opal . Float remaining mana and cast Mox Opal to untap all nonland permanents.

5.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Seton, Krosan Protector . Float remaining mana and cast Seton, Krosan Protector to untap all nonland permanents.

The Second Phase

Now that we have access to our initial setup, it's time to move on to the second phase of our setup:

1.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Dosan the Falling Leaf . Cast him - float excess mana - and your opponents can't cast any spells, making you cast all your combo pieces without the risk of being interupted by spells. All nonland permanents untap.

2.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Azusa, Lost but Seeking . Cast her - float excess mana - to have the option to look for Gaea's Cradle or Inventors' Fair later on. Untap all nonland permanents.

You can now cast additional low costing legendary spells in case you already plan to go the stax route. This is however optional and does not add anything to your combo route victory.

The Finishing Lines

Now we have a solid base to win the game within turn 3/4. Having Azusa, Lost but Seeking on the battlefield gives you the option to play 2 extra lands. In my meta I chose to run two combo lines; The Mill Victory & The Legendary Victory. Having a backup plan when one line breaks feels like a safe invest, while still maintaining the least possible dead cards outside of the current combo routes.

The Mill Victory:

1.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Inventors' Fair . Put the land on the battlefield.

2.) Sacrifice Inventors' Fair and search for Thousand-Year Elixir in your library. Float all nonland mana and cast Thousand-Year Elixir . Untap all nonland permanents.

3.) Tap Captain Sisay and find Selvala, Explorer Returned . Float all nonland mana and cast her. Untap all nonland permanents.

4.) Activate the parley ability from Selvala, Explorer Returned followed by the fetch ability from Captain Sisay to let everyone draw their deck. You can untap Selvala, Explorer Returned with the Elixir ability to get two cards per paradox trigger. This will smooth the process of milling all decks without issues.

5.) Green Sun's Zenith ensures you that your library will always have one card to draw. End your turn and watch everyone lose the game at the start of their turn...Voila!


The Legendary Victory:

1.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Bow of Nylea . Float all nonland mana and cast it. Untap all nonland permanents.

2.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Bontu's Monument . Float all nonland mana and cast the it. Untap all nonland permanents.

3.) Tap Captain Sisay and find Saffi Eriksdotter . Float all nonland mana and cast her. Untap all nonland permanents. Each opponents loses 1 life and you gain one life.

4.) Sacrifice Saffi Eriksdotter targeting any creature. Then use the Bow of Nylea ability to place Saffi Eriksdotter on the bottom of your library.

5.) Tap Captain Sisay and fetch Saffi Eriksdotter . Float all nonland mana and cast her again. Untap all nonland permanents. Each opponents loses 1 life and you gain one life.

6.) Repeat steps 4 and 5 untill you drained all the life of your opponents. Since the lifedrain doesn't target, it will be very hard for your opponents to prevent this lifeloss.

Check the next category for several synergies which can be helpfull when games stretch longer due to a failing combo win or when using the alternative stax route.

Additional combos and synergies

Besides running two lethal combo lines, this deck also contains several synergies which can be easliy found and executed when playing the stax route:

• Captain Sisay & Mistveil Plains : A reanimation combo for any legendary card that is in your graveyard
  
  
• Green Sun's Zenith & Dryad Arbor : When Green Sun's Zenith is in your opening hand, you can use it as ramp when you fetch Dryad Arbor . X = 0 since Dryad Arbor 's cmc is 0.
  
  
• Voyaging Satyr & Gaea's Cradle : Excessive mana ramp incoming!
