Beyond needing more lands?

why is garruk in here?

August 2, 2014 10:44 p.m.

WARPOPE says... #5

if I go a few turns I've exhausted my hand Garruk is in here for his +1 hopefully refilling my hand with 5 soldiers to drop with Preeminent Captain. Just as a precaution really.

it needs more lands, also, as ur deck is 4 colors, consider Sylvan Caryatid ... I would also recommend Alpha Authority if u want to protect 1 important creature instead of Ranger's Guile . That Preeminent Captain seems a pretty good target for removal otherwise.

White and red has some interesting creatures tho... +1 :)

Thank you very much for your suggestions I have a playset of Alpha Authority but have Ajani's Presence , Ranger's Guile and Brave the Elements to hopefully keep my Preeminent Captain from seeing the graveyard before he drops his payload on turn 3 I still have 1 mana available for combat tricks with 3 possibilities of instant speed protection. Added 3x Sylvan Caryatid for mana fixing. thanks for the +1 and suggestions... Any thoughts on sideboard?

This is sick. +1. You may want to end up adding Obelisk of Urd to this since you're going Soldiers. Your deck strategy is very different from mine but the convoke on that thing is going to make it a staple, I predict.

I would suggest

-3 Generator Servant , +1 Cloudfin Raptor , +1 Sylvan Caryatid , +1 Spark Trooper

-4 Elvish Mystic , +2 Palisade Giant , and either +2 Goblin Rabblemaster or +2 Precinct Captain

that will give you some token production to capitalize on the Foundry Champion ...if your not making tokens I would dump the champions for Brimaz, King of Oreskos

WARPOPE says... #10

I see your point with the removal of Elvish Mystic and Generator Servant but it possible to be swinging with Preeminent Captain 3rd turn.

August 3, 2014 1:01 p.m.

WARPOPE says... #11

Brimaz, King of Oreskos is amazing but I don't feel he belongs in my list even as a soldier. The mana ramps allow me to hard cast any of the soldiers should my Preeminent Captain be removed or if I don't draw them I think Palisade Giant might be a hard decision. With the 1 drops and Twinflame turn three Foundry Champion hopefully having six creatures on the battlefield delivering 6pnts of damage to the face of your opponent 12 if you drop 2 and that's a lethal turn 3

Cloudfin Raptor doesn't seem to fit in here at all, except that it's a one-drop. And then you've got these bitchin big soldiers that you want to cheat out, but if you can't they're gonna sit dead in your hand. If you don't draw Preeminent Captain or if he gets removed and you don't get to use your big stuff, that's probably game. Maybe think about not using Lavinia somehow to keep blue out of it, and stick with the Foundry Champion + Spark Trooper finishers.

I've played a few games recently and Cloudfin Raptor was an all star providing early game growing aggression. Late game it serves as a chump blocker and still capable of evolving quickly. I also have played games where Preeminent Captain gets removed early or I don't see them on the draw and haven't had issues hardcasting Lavinia or champions with the mana dorks and Generator Servant bonus of providing colorless and haste.

i had generator servant in my original list as well ( My Deck ), but if I didn't have him in my opening hand, I did not want to draw him, as I couldn't bring him out with captain. He could have some use after a board wipe to get things up and running a little bit more quickly, but still can't tap for sac on his first turn.

+1 !

You have got the use of Preeminent Captain down i think versus other peoples decks ive commented on. Ive used Generator servant and I always found myself skipping over him for better cards. It looks like you want to rush out big guys turn 4 and i cant blame you. I Dont think Preeminent Captain is ready for play quite yet. When Khan comes our I think youll see him shine with big 3 color and high cost soldiers with (hopefully) some new ways to protect him or stall the game. I cant offer any other advise than wait and see, and dont put too much into it yet. Some of the cards you have now are rotating.

Oh yes I'm prepared I've been working on alot of other decks I just love Johnny style decks I've got about 5 including Captain Sneaky I'll post the decks once I get time. They're all pretty fun. I can't wait to see what Khans has instore for soldiers.

August 4, 2014 7:26 p.m.

raven1man says... #17

they don't rotate out until September 26, 2014 as per:http://magic.wizards.com/en/content/standard-formats-magic-gathering

That's a good 8 weeks away. I think right now Preeminent Captain is at a good place and Khan's can make him better. I believe they are about 30-40 Soldier cards available now in standard so you have lots of options for decks saying that he's not ready for play is just not right. As protection goes Ajani's Presence and Gods Willing are good enough for that.

@raven1man- you are very correct. But it could take a month to get the deck down to real competition level. I say that because a lot of people dont have the money to drop another 40+ bucks into something with a lot of old cards. To me it looks like at least 5 of his creatures are gone next month. Its a great deck idea but it all hinges on Preemptive captain. I dont think this deck will get much success without him. So the problem I see is (if you remove Premenat Capt) a very hard game to get the cards out to win. Generator Servant take one turn to play and another to tap for the sack so even with him in play you MAY get one of the fatties out, I dont think one will cut it though. Most of the cards are 2 of's as well making consistency very diffucult (protecting your capt for example) 30% chance to pull a rangers guile when you want to play your Capt. So when I say dont put to much into it yet this is why. Play test it for a month until retation and see what the new set has to offer and go from there.

judoka219, Preeminent Captain isnt rotating He's M15. there's still Brimaz and I'm sure Khan's will have some fatties

I just see a lot of time that you will have stuck a captain, with no solders to play with him.

August 5, 2014 12:23 p.m.

I've never played this deck but my Preeminent Nut shot deck 1 out of 8 opening hands do not contain Preeminent Captain or a soldier...those are pretty good odds if you ask me.

I see how Spark Trooper fits in your version, but at my fnm there's to many mono green decks that can chump for days and the chunks they swing with are too large to matter with the life gain...

I like the new changes. The numbers seem rounded out and more solid.

Agreed better odds less chaotic draw. Will play test soon.
