MATCH REPORT

Won 3 matches and basically the match that I lost got cut short because our first game went so long.

Tied for points with 2nd place but got bumped down because I beat easier Opponents. Apparently.

Blue White Bounce

I beat this deck very quickly.

Destroyed all his Creatures the turn they came out with Grasp of Darkness or To the Slaughter, got Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet out on turn 4, had Shambling Vent on the field as well at that, got 2/2 Zombies for killing his Creatures, hit him three times and that was game.

Didn't Sideboard.

Second game he bounced a lot of my Creatures with Reflector Mage and Roil Spout, I killed all his Creatures, including Thing in the Ice  Flip, then I started hitting him with Shambling Vent until he was dead.

I put Dead Weight on one of his Creatures with 2 Toughness and he was going to pump it in response, but then realized that it would die as soon as the buffs wore off.

After the game he told me that he had removal but couldn't use it against Shambling Vent because it was at Sorcery speed.

Black White Control
MIRROR MATCH

We both had Duress in our decks so there was a lot of looking at each other's hands and then choosing to play with cards exposed that had been viewed.

I don't do that with most people, but we both know each other quite well and it's just what we tend to do.

He got me down to about five life in my first game.

He trapped my Archangel Avacyn  Flip under a Stasis Snare. I was able to get rid of that with Anguished Unmaking but he destroyed it right away with Declaration in Stone.

I destroyed all his Creatures then hit him with Shambling Vent continually until he'd had enough of it and conceded.

He Sideboarded, I didn't.

In the second game he got me down to 3 life and I was thinking about throwing in the towel as I had no Creatures and no interrupts.

I got Ob Nixilis Reignited on to the field and destroyed the only Creature he had, with its second ability.

He got another Creature out by using Shamble Back.

Next go I cast Sorin, Grim Nemesis and used his second ability to kill that Creature and gain some life.

I was able to turn the game around from there by drawing more cards until I had some Creatures with Lifelink out on the field, and enough removal in hand to stop any threats he drew into.

Mono White Humans

The first game went so long with this deck that we didn't get to play a second.

We basically both had a lot of ways of getting tokens on to the field, and a lot of removal.

In the end he had out three Always Watching which meant that all his Non-Token Humans were at least 4/4 the moment they hit the field, and he also had a flipped Neglected Heirloom  Flip, which he kept attaching to Tokens made by Westvale Abbey  Flip. Basically most of his Creatures were huge.

My draw wasn't the best as I had 2x Duress and 3x Transgress the Mind in hand, where removal would have been more helpful.

He transformed Westvale Abbey  Flip at one point but I was lucky enough to top deck an Anguished Unmaking and Exiled it right away.

That's why I don't usually Transform that card.

I let my life drop too low, down to 1, and he finished me off by attacking with a flipped Pious Evangel  Flip and a 1/1 Cleric.

At one stage he trapped my Archangel Avacyn  Flip under a flipped Avacynian Missionaries  Flip, but I was able to Exile the Missionaries to get it back.

I also did a play before that where he was going to smash me with two Creatures but I Flashed in Archangel Avacyn  Flip and was able to block with that and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and gain a bit of life.

I think I really lost this match by not having much access to Lifelink. He was able to get rid of my Creatures that had that ability and from memory I didn't see Sorin, Grim Nemesis.

I think I would have Boarded in Declaration in Stone, and Center Soul, and taken out Duress, and Transgress the Mind.

This deck has also shown me that Virulent Plague is not a good Sideboard card at the moment with all the buffs that are available.

Blue Red Prowess

My Opponent was colour screwed in the first game and mana flooded in the second game.

I pretty much kept bumping his Creatures off and then hitting him with mine.

Then I Emblemed Ob Nixilis Reignited and that finished things off even faster.

I didn't Sideboard.

In the second game he did get a couple of big hits in, and did direct damage to my Creatures with Instants.

I shut him down one go when he attacked with Stormchaser Mage, pumped up with Titan's Strength and Brute Force, that I blocked with a Flashed in Archangel Avacyn  Flip.

I killed the Mage next turn and then kept hitting him with the Angel, that also ended up flipping when I sacced a Zombie to pump up Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet.

The match I lost was probably the most interesting one of the night.

Although I like winning I don't necessarily like playing Control, so the matches I won weren't that enjoyable.

I don't like it when my Opponent's shoulders start to sag half way through the second game because they haven't been able to make any of their good plays.

The games I love is where there is a lot of back and forth.

I do like changing my play styles, and I kind of let the newest set guide what I build, so I'm happy to play Control for a season.

Shadows Over Innistrad Standard has a LOT of Control.

Cards of the night for me were Archangel Avacyn  Flip for her surprise appearances, particularly against fliers, Anguished Unmaking for getting rid of anything annoying, and Shambling Vent for gaining me life when it was most needed.

This deck is performing as expected.

Brain in a Jar what are your thoughts?

For some scry and free spells?

Schmuckey it's interesting.

Someone else suggested it as a way to kill lands that turn into Creatures.

At this stage it's something I will keep in mind until this deck goes live.

I want to see how useful it would be before I commit spell slots to it.

Have you thought about Expose Evil and adding a splash of blue? Also, i don't know sh*t about standard, but looking to get into it this rotation. Thinking about a deck like this one or R/G wolves since i have the majority of the money cards for it already.

Splashing a third colour would weaken this deck. I don't want Blue in it as I want it to be reactive, not proactive.

There's far more value in Exiling threats rather than just tapping them for one turn.

If you're interested in RG Wolves you might want to check out Gruul Wolves (SOI Full Aggro) by clayperce

Post #48 in the first batch of Comments goes into detail as to why Transgress the Mind was chosen over Pick the Brain.

how are you making abby happen if you dont have creatures to sack? sorin has a target on his head. without counters his dead.

Abbey "happens" by creating Creatures in the late game.

I do not want to Transform it.

If I did, Kalitas makes Zombies and the Abbey itself makes Clerics.
