Gideon is an absolute beast in a list like this ... 2-3 of mandatory

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is actually really crap in a lot of matchups.

Most of my games I don't even end up Sideboardong ANYTHING in, and I win 2 games, no sweat.

For Control and aggro I consider him essential. I wasn't winning my second and third games in those matchup without Siding him in. Now I consistently win them.

Removing Caves of Koilos has also been important for those matchups.

Of course, you have to work out what to take OUT for him.

I usually choose between To the Slaughter, Ob Nixilis Reignited, and either Duress or Transgress the Mind.

Been playing this deck since SOI released, been top 3 with it each time so far. Still have yet to hit first place though, I struggle against other control decks and there are so many right now! I have now added Gideon's to the SB also, hopefully this will help out.

NutellaOG what colour are these other Control decks you've been facing?

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar has helped me win against Control.

It's a long game. You basically have to keep playing every Creature and Planeswalker you can until something sticks, to just run them out of cards.

You can even not make anything stick and start turning Shambling Vent into a Creature, and get some Clerics from Westvale Abbey  Flip.

I also just use the second ability of Ob Nixilis or Sorin, if I'm using them, as I know I will lose them the next turn.

Top 3 is pretty good. I've only managed Top 4.

Yeah, I have read that blue was giving you the most issue. The same has been true for me, I really enjoy playing this deck though. Removing Caves of Koilos for Sanctuary has been pretty good so far. I had lost to Grixis, Esper, and Season's Past. All matches were very long but I ended up getting beat down too much.

NutellaOG if you want to beat those decks you will probably have to tweak the deck so that it looks more like the one written about here.

That one has been doing well versus those type of decks you have been losing to.

Sideboarding Duress and Transgress the Mind as 1 3-4 of each is how i beat them.

And it beats them hard.

I will think about doing the other build that includes Secure the Wastes, but we will see. I really love using Kalitas :) and I currently have 0 Secure the Wastes :(

Last 3 weeks FNM were 1st place 4-01st place 4-02nd place 3-0-1 (went to time on 3rd, was one more attack phase of winning and getting 1st place).

If you#'re not running secure the wastes I'd run this list. It literally wrecks everything and is what i am personally taking to Gran Prix Manchester.

Adrekan go away. Want to know why? Let's recap.

Adrekan Post #17

"25-30 bits of removal and some bombs to win?

Wow you've just broken this game to its most boring components. Why bother playing?

That's not deckbuilding, its boring.

There's no point even writing down what the cards are in the deck, they all do the same thing."

Seems like there WAS a point in you writing the cards down, as you've now built your own Control list.

Was it because Control started to wreck at all the pro tournaments recently? Seems it actually WAS "deckbuilding", then.

Nice of you to come back here and apologise, or even mention on your Control deck that you got the original idea from mine.

You don't even run 4x Duress and 4x Transgress the Mind in your Sideboard, as you seem to claim above.

Trolling at its finest.

Adrekan Comment #57

"Sideboarding Duress and Transgress the Mind as 1 3-4 of each is how i beat them."

Adrekan then claims that s/he DOESN'T Side in 3-4 of each one.

Somebody can't keep their story straight.

No write up on how Adrekan won "1st Place", either.

Trollollollollol.

I see your gums are still flapping.

You haven't worked out yet that:

a) I'm not interested in any of your trolling

b) All your fail posts are just being deleted

Not too bright, are ya?

Run along now and win some PPTQs with my deck.

This is sweet Argeaux

Awesome work! I've been wanting to see Sorin, Grim Nemesis have more presence. The removal is insane.

What are your bad matchup and where does the deck fall down?

Just did a short five turn playtest.

That's just gross. So much creature and hand hate. What's your record with this?

(You've got me all excited now)

GAH, more details on your latest FNM adventure

Argy says... #20

TMBRLZ thanks for the kind words.

My worst match up is usually anything that curves into Dragons, particularly Dragonlord Kolaghan.

The worst thing for this deck would be reanimation but not many people seem to be using that.

Top 3 is my best place so far. I usually Top 8 at beach FNM I play.

Can't say I know many decks in my area that use Lord Kola, but this deck is sweet. I feel it would perform strongly in my area, that is, if people actually cared about Standard here.

Looking forward to hearing more on this deck's success. You should try and jam it at a GP or an Open sometime.

Have you considered Dragon Hunter as a sideboard, just in case you do come up against dragon's?

ocary13 says... #23

TMBRLZ and Argeaux, do you 2 play modern at all?

June 9, 2016 1:02 a.m.

Argy says... #24

TMBRLZ while this deck does well in my local Casual meta, it struggles against Tier 1 decks. There is a more competitive version, that has more flexibility, that has been dominating professional circles of late.

ocary13 I had Dragon Hunter in an earlier version of this deck, but was never Sideboarding it in.

Although Dragons are challenging for this deck, it usually beats them.

The current Sideboard is necessary for my local meta. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Declaration in Stone win me a lot of matches, and my field has quite a bit of life gain and Mill in it, which I've lost to because I didn't have Tainted Remedy or Orbs of Warding.

I have a couple of "Modern" decks that I have put together for playing against friends, but I have only played in Modern tournament once.

It's not really my thing as I like matches that go on past Turn 4, and I am also not interested in spending thousands of dollars on a deck that may become obsolete with future expansions.

I also get bored with my decks quite quickly, once I see that they can work. I like that Standard has a lot of turn over.

AgentGreen my match write up is now complete.

Cool stuff

You've also seen my deck Argeaux and I'm debating whether to swap out 4 basics (probably 3 swamps and a plains) for 4 Forsaken Sanctuary; since I still need the Caves for its colorless; it will leave me with 4 swamps and 3 plains; but will allow me to better utilize my mana
