Novice's edit was damn bear perfect (would prefer the ability to only be a sorcery because I disagree with all instant, cheap discard but w/e). I think that I'm on board with him.

That's fine IMO, I don't want to nerf too much more but I wouldn't mind seeing that first ability have a mana cost or only be activated as a sorcery, as it seems like it could get out of hand easily with Consecrated Sphinx and simply lock players out of the game (draw a card on draw step, I draw 2, discard 1 you discard that card you just drew and can't do a damn thing about it unless you topdeck a removal spell).
Also, SirFowler any chance you could make a "full-art" version of Tymdall? I'll link you the art.

I am making a different version of Umbrakin so it doesn't lock people out of the game and the second ability is different... Hopefully it's a better version but I might have to nerf the second ability a bit more...

Honestly...I really, really, REALLY like that. Nothing too powerful, but nothing too weak. Can wreak havoc vs my deck, but whatever.

@Devinske I actually like that final version quite a bit. If you can find the artists' name, I'd suggest you give them credit. If you can't find the artist, then don't bother.

If I play Hapless Researcher and he has dredge thanks to my commander, can I dredge him from his own ability? I think he goes into the graveyard before the ability resolves, so he should be able to.
Just wanted to check.

Well, as a testament to my internet variability, I just got the message now that a spot has opened up.
So ... what are your thoughts about me throwing together a commander and deck on the side now while I can - just in case? Is it worth revisiting the "commander choice" gambit I threw down a few weeks ago or no?
If I knew there was a game going on I could make a point to get on the internet a bit more often.
